ill be looking at a 53-55 plate on my budget, i know a taxi driver whos done 350000 miles in one and he reckons he will take it up to 500000 before he gets rid.
-
not efficient enough for me that one bet it shifts though
-
its rare you see them in breakers yards as they are all still on the road

For my next car im looking at replacing the wives vectra for an accord cdti but heard some stories about the timing chain snapping in particular the oil pump chain. Can anyone shed any light on this?
-
i bought my civic 4 years ago and i had the timing belt water pump and tensioner done. Got various quotes one was £400 as mechanic said it was hard to do. i fecked him off straight away. went to the guy who does ,my tyres and he did it for £240. he said i didnt need to do the tensioners as they are bullet proof but said for the little extra its worth it for piece of mind. also as the honda mechanics on here say and every mechanic i speak to inc the local mot tester they reckon the d engine is the best ever built and apart from servicing it it rarely goes wrong. i have the 1.4 and ive had my 900 quids worth and some out of it. at its last mot the guy said that is one of the best cars ive seen for its age in a long time. keep it as long as you can. one thing d engines like is regular oil changes.

sorted nah this was beyond heat and grease it was done. got one of a scrap honda first one ive ever seen. fitted it greased it and now it brakes evenly. cost me a £10 inc sliders too. love this car
-

change gearbox oil and bleed the clutch fluid, pull back the slave rubber boot and grease. could solve your problems -
hello welcome, ive had an mb 1.4 sport for 3 years and they are great cars. first things id recomeend with it is a really thorough service. the engine is bullet proof and wont let you down. here is what i did when i got mine, oil and filter, sparks leads and dizzy cap clean up, rotor arm, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter, clutch fluid pull through, grease the arm to the slave cylinder, gearbox oil coolant and most important of all CAM BELT CHANGE. if you have any problems with the car post in the engine and gearbox section and alot of us will be able to help. last of all these are great cars and i love mine more than any other car ive owned.
-
ive had my moneys worth raz, although ive spent a bit on it
-
the 1.4 is by far the most reliable engine. looks good mate. things id recommend to be getting on with. change the oil, gearbox fluid, clutch fluid brake fluid and power steering fluid. drain and refresh the coolant, change the fuel filter and treat any rust also change the pollen filter. take of the dizzy cap and clean all the terminals with sand paper then replace cap and i cover the gap with insulation tape if the gasket is missing. clean up the battery and also cover the fuse box next to the battery with a plastic bag as it can get damp in there causing starting problems. ive had a 1.4 for 3 years and its been the best car ive ever owned and only cost me £900
-
looking pretty impressive is yours a 1.4
-
cheers guys you gotta love the sohc 1.4 d engine its bullet proof such a simple well built unit
-
how does the ecu balance the mix then on this engine without a airflow meter unless its pre-determined
-
hello, is this in the box or on the pipe as want to put an induction kit into mine
-
this engine as with all sohc d series engines are bullet proof. probably the most reliable engine ever built in the world.
-
d series is non interfereance engine. timing belt replacement is a simple straight forward job and with a water pump and tensioner should expect to pay about £230-to 50 anymore then your being ripped off.
-
why dont u replace the igniter and the coil rather rthan the whole unit
-
Possible excessive pressure in cooling system

airlock lots of threads for dealing with it but take rad cap off and run engine for 30-45 mins until all air is purged -
go to your local motor factors or try googling the part number off your dizzy mate to ensure the right part. all honda dizzys are very similar with slight differences.
-
my 1.4 sport (cant remember which mb it is) 97000 miles on its test only covered 3000 in the last 12 months. its on a v 99
-
you can replace the igniter that is the unit which usually fails, some dizzys are lucas some are hitachis also clean the terminals on the cap and clean up the rotor arm.
