  1. Hi, does any one know if you can get a wiring adapter to plug into the cars OBD plug to enable you to use an OBD2 code reader? I've seen a few on ebay but for different pins, not sure what is suitable for these models or are they different depending on year? I ask as I've got handheld OBD2 reader used on newer cars but would be nice to plug it in to the Honda or even diagnostic software. Otherwise it might be down to local garage with my wallet open!!??
  2. Do you still have the s/s manifold? My in-laws live just outside Bridgwater so I could call in for any nice bits next time im visiting!
  3. How would I tell if I have this problem? I've checked the link to check the IAB's are working by watching the diaphragm lever with the ignition off and again with the ignition on but nothing happens!? Could I not have any VTEC or IABS working? No wonder it feels like I'm driving with handbrake on!!! Any ideas please? or do I need garage diagnostics?
  4. Thats good to know, should probably do sensor as well, so sports cat is it then!
  5. Opps! just had my MOT test this morning and computer says NO! Emissions failed, high CO2 after both fast idle tests. Fast idle CO: limit 0.30, actual value 0.56 (so almost double!) 2nd fast idle limit 0.30, actual value 0.31 (without him using the revs!) Would you say its the cat or lambda sensor or both?? Didnt fail on what I expected it to as I have sticky rear caliper but he said brakes came up ok on the rollers! Nevermind I've got upragded brakes setup coming next week, (discs/pads/calipers etc..) but at least I dont need them too urgently (in terms of MOT) I can do them when weather warms up. The guy is use is very good and always fair, doesnt do repair work just testing so doesnt fail silly things looking for jobs (like some places), just a good honest teser and usually lets me have an advisory instead of a fail if he can. But unfortuantely the emissions beat us this time. Look like new Cat is on the cards. I suppose though after 14 years and 126k miles its done a hell of a good job! Not many components on a car last that long with no maintenance. So looks like new Cat is on the must -do list!! I know a few of you will shout de-cat but I would rather stay legal and I dont wont the hassle of changing it over before each MOT, just dont have the time to faf! So I think Sports Cat is the way to go , good compromise for better flow plus being legal and I can fit it and forget which is great!
  6. Just out of interest do most people use satin black or gloss? Also has anyone done it colour coded to the car? Not sure which looks best for when I give it a go!!!
  7. I just about squeeze it in the car, let alone the house. Bloody thing is tiny, wish I still had my 3 bed semi in Wales, at least I could swing a cat out there! Well what can I say, Wales is the only sensible place! Maybe you should come back!!
  8. Hi guys, I've had inspiration from the many posts on here for a few mods to update the car. The clear headlamp and de-chrome mod and maybe a front grill job is on the cards for the summer. So I got myself a spare pair of headlamps and front grill as you can see in the box, also got myself the complete rear tail light wiring for both sides to attempt the JDM rear light mod. The other pic shows my replacement rear bumper in the correct colour to change as mine has been damaged ever since I got the car. The package next to the bumper, still wrapped up is the VTI-S lip kit ready for painting and fitting at a future date.
  9. If I had big enough kitchen or a conservatory it would look great.
  10. Yeah definately keep the headrests and like you say could probably build it for less, depends on the hassle tho! I'd prob use later version backseat squab without the seatbelt buckle holders to look slicker.
  11. Hi guys, doing the daily browse online and came across this! '>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CIVIC-VTI-S-TOPGEAR-STYLE-SOFA-VTI-UNIQUE-ONE-OFF-/181084249197?pt=SR_Home_Garden_LivingRoom_Armchairs_SR&hash=item2a29765c6d Im not buying it but thought it quite good fun for anyones office I suppose, but what do you think?
  12. Good job, great to be able to do things without spending much money. I like the interior LED idea as the standard light is pretty useless! It annoys me that theres no light in the back either, always dark at night, could be idea to install interior light at the rear?
  13. Hi Guys, I've seen some listings selling brakes for the VTi models, both the hatch (mb6) and the aerodeck (mc2) as far as I know use the same brakes dont they? The sizes & dimensions are the same in the listings, but they're advertised with different part numbers! As far as Im concerned they should be the same but can anyone confirm? Thanks
  14. I took my centre console out to change the clock bulb over, it was easier to take front seat out, 5 min job. Access so much easier then.
  15. Yes I'm going to do exactly that and see what happens. I suspect there could be clutch issue as I mentioned last year after buying the car, it's always been a bit graunchy now and again, but so far it's just soildered on. If I do start having further issues then I'll get a clutch kit sorted for it. If I do the same sort of mileage as I did last year then this time next year I'll also be lining up for the dreaded cambelt change also so if the clutch keeps going till then I would probably look to get both done together, might as well save up and shell out for the jobs in one hit, then she's all done. Maybe a weekend away and visit to your workshop could be penciled in?
  16. Yes job title can save a few quid, when people rang up I always used to find alternative title for their job to get priced reduction so that my quote was more competetive! For example plumber or anything to do with trades is high risk job title due to carrying goods / materials etc... but heating engineer title may save you a few £'s, not much but every £ counts!! The issue of where you park it is very interseting when we learnt about the background and legal side of things. The way to look at it is if it's garaged then is it because its a higher risk area? also if its on a driveway then maybe the area is less risk, quiet side street for eg. that doesnt need to be garaged to make it safe. I know its hard to understand their reasoning but thats how they work. Most of the time a sure fire way to get discount is to add additional named driver, obviously older, more experienced driver like one of your parents, as this spreads the risk from yourself as your less likely to be driving it more often if theres a 2nd driver. Insurance is a weird and complex world, like the universe we live in, and insurance companies and brokers are very clever and devious and unfortunately you can very rarely beat them and they know it.
  17. Definitely the grey, nice colour and will compliment the silver a treat. What shade is it by the way?
  18. Yes the 2 year limit on no claims is correct, if you dont use it by 2 years you lose it, although some companies may offer intro bonus. Prices vary with each company, some are better with younger drivers, some are better with certain types of car or vehicle usage, some offer discounts with imports etc.. their criteria's can change and where a company is competitive one month, a few months later they may not offer the same discounts as they change with their markets to attract different customers at different times of the year. Always check when doing online comparisons that all the details are correct as some online quotes use assumptions for certain details and quite often gives good price initially, but when you go to the actual insurer page afterwards and provide more information or correct any details prices often go up. If in doubt, always ring up and speak to someone to confirm. I recently got a great deal from sky insurance who are one of the Civic5 forum traders, they offer discount for being a forum / club member and can offer reduced prices dealing directly with the underwriter. (I dont have any affiliation with them but just recommend them from my own experience) but again they may not be as good for you and your driving history / circumstances, but worth speaking to the advisor and give them a try.
  19. Im not really up on gearboxes but there are plenty of knowledgeable guys on here to help. I may be wrong but I would think possibly a worn syncro or bearing, as this can be a common fault on these, especially if its had abuse in the past, which take it most of these cars have as its in their nature! Im looking at doing slave cylinder and gearbox fluid change myself to smooth mine out a bit but Im sure that a clutch change for my car is not in the too distant future!
  20. Yeah there's a few people advertising on ebay that do wheel spacer / hub convertors, so you can bolt on the 4x100 spacer to your original hub, then bolt the wheels onto the 4x114 studs that way. Good buy on the wheels! the white is nice but I think darker colour like black / grey would compliment the silver quite nicely. Where did you get the carbon to do the badge, is it just like vinyl effect sheet?
  21. Like the carbon 'H', thats a nice touch, wouldnt mind trying that one myself.
  22. Yeah I used to work for a previously mentioned insurance company many years ago selling policies. They can and will check the insurance records with other companies and police databases, so you will get caught out if you purposely miss anything out or try to bend the truth, so definately best to be honest and open with every question they ask you. Its very interesting as every single question has a risk factor to it and the quote will fluctuate up and down until the final question and will then level out to find the cost based on all your answers, and risks calculated, obviously this varies with each insurance company, thats why prices can vary so much.
  23. Yeah I'll probably get a new one, as you say they arent too expensive (Pagid £32). Is it likely to be the slave or could it be master cyl? I know its hard to say which one but would be interesting to know if either are known to fail after time on these models?
