Depends how hot it got and how long it was running when it was that hot, you might get away with it, that's on the assumption the head gasket hasn't already gone though.

Certainly sounds like a cylinder head casket on it's way out :(.......removing the thermostat often masks pending gasket failure.

 

If you visit an MOT Station or borrow a CO2 tester you'll detect CO2 fumes from the header tank if a cylinder is blowing  across to a water galley.....cuts out the guesswork.

I was suggesting testing the coolant for exhaust gasses to ascertain the same thing. See what happens I guess.

Your rad could be busted! After a long process of elimination, my overheating problems disappeared once i replaced my rad, even though the old one looked to be in fine shape from the outside.
