benefits of heat wrapping?

Thought I'd ask the question because I don't have a clue about it.

What are the pro's and con's of heat wrapping the manifold?

Is there any point?

My manifold looks quite shocking but is functioning normally. I was thinking of stripping it of its accumulation of rust and s**t.. Paint it and then wrap on top..

I scuffed the bottom of my manifold a couple of times and it fell off!

same!

and if you are going to do it, make sure the stuff is soaking wet (much easier to wrap round) and use metal zip ties

Does manifold wrap help with slightly leaking exhaust from a cracked manifold (this is on a Hyundai with a cast manifold) or would it just blow/burn straight through? The leak is not enough to have been spotted at MoT or to cause the emissions to fail.
