Poor mans Type R ??

Hi all , I keep reading about this so called "poor mans type R" whereby creating a hydrid of honda engines cheaper than say buying a straight DC2 engine. Does anyone know the best way of going about this.

If say I bought a dc2 head/cams etc , Dc2 inlet manifold and then the ecu is this a poor mans type r . What power would this put out at a guesstimate ?.

Looking at prices is it just as economical to buy a b18c6 engine all in one go ?

Although that article has some good info in it the guy has blown alot of money for very little gain.

Supersprint proved using a dyno that their exhaust designed for the MB6 (manifold to back box) increased BHP by 14. Now that is using a 2" system front to back. If you instead go for a 2.25" manifold and system + hi flow cat am sure you could get over 15BHP. But for talking sake lets say 15BHP.

Then you swap the std ECU for the P72 GSR one. The GSR leaves the factory with 177BHP std. So thats another 10BHP as the engines in both cars are identical. So far we have 167 + 15 + 10 = 192BHP.

My next step would be to lose some weight from the car and get an s80 box. This + handling modifications would improve the car alot.

£2335 wow hes got more money than sense. If you look at his dyno readout he only achieved 203BHP. There is a MB6 on Hondaevolutions under username PKMan which is punching out approx 220BHP from a modified B18c4.

Well there were several members running P72 ECUs in the MB6. I made a mistake in my last post. There was a GSR USDM which ran a P72 ECU with 167BHP and there was a JDM Si which ran a P72 ECU with 177BHP. There is no difference betweeen the B18c (Si) and the B18c4(MB6) apart from the Si has a knock sensor. The MB6 will happily connect to the P72 as it has the correct OBD style plugs.

Check this link out - click here for all info on the P72 upgrade. It works and provides a more aggressive map than the MB6 P9K ECU. I appreciate you have not heard of anyone running it but several members on Honda Evolutions have run it on their cars without any issues.
