Coolant leaking plus temperature going up and down

Question

I had a full service done on Saturday.. Also changed the thermostat and anti freeze as my car was taking too long to warm up.. One thing I noticed after the service was that the reservoir bottle was over filled with coolant.. The car drove fine and was warming up perfectly but I drive a bit far last night and drove upto 60mph.. When I got home I could see some smoke coming out by the headlights.. Parked up and looked underneath and the coolant was running down the manifold and dripping by there and that was causing smoke.. So I checked the coolant level in the bottle this morning before leaving for work and it was just below Max so it didn't lose too much.. I topped it up with water so it was on the Max level.. But when I was driving to work and went upto 60 the temperature started rising and went past the half way.. When I slowed down to 30 to 40 it would come back down to normal.. Needle kept moving between normal to over half way.. I can't go back to the mechanic till Friday as I am working 12 hours every day to then.. Any suggestion please and also is it ok to drive the car at slow speed like this as I need to drive to get to work.. It's 4 to 5 miles from my house

It's a b1tch being right isn't it mate?

Is that whats up with my wife?!?!

There are certain things, not many, that need to be genuine honda or upgraded .. Not the patent parts from euro or APD .. Ball joints, water pump, oil pump, thermostat etc etc

I would generally the important parts that keep the engine going and the car driving safely (suspension, brakes etc) I would say are parts you shouldn't cheap out on else you will indeed revisit that job sooner than you'd expect.

I mean if an OEM CV joint has lasted ten years plus, why not spend the extra money for an OEM part again instead of saving £10 to find it needs doing again in 12-18 months time.

The only "OEM quality" parts I trust are by those manufacturers who do OEM parts for manufacturers anyway. Like when I got my timing belt kit, the pump and tensioner weren't "Honda genuine" but they were made by the people who supply the parts to Honda in the first place. :)

Any names you can share ?

Yup!

Just going off the ones I've dealt with personally:

Belts - Mitsuboshi (Although I went for a Gates Racing belt myself)

Tensioner - Koyo

Water pump - NPW

There's bound to be more than one supplier that Honda deals with for their parts, so it's worth looking around when looking for parts. :)

I would probably get a cam belt direct from Honda but that's just me.

A few on the Type R owners forum bought 'OEM quality' timing chains trying to be cheap like you and they stretched or snapped, new engines it turns out cost a lot more than properly looking after your car...
