  1. Meant to update this but never seem to have the time lately! Ok, so I did remove all the gubbins to get to the gearbox. pin fitted, all the mechanism greased up as it was pretty dry. Also noticed the wee rubber gaters on the ends of the gear selector cables had came away a bot and cables looked dry/rusty. Sprayed tons of WD40 inside them, then waited a few days and sprayed silicon grease in them. Wee test drive and she did feel a lot easier to change gear. I then decided to bleed the clutch slave cylinder too, which seems to have helped slightly. At least Gayle is now able to drive her.

  2. Do you have any plastic tools for removing interior trim mate? I usually use those, just need to slip it in the side between the cover and the actual bumper and you should be able to pop it out. Think there's a tab on each side that acts like a clip. If you don't have a trim removal tool, just use a flat blade screwdriver and be careful so's not to scratch the bumper.

Once the covers off I think it's just two bolts (poss 3) to remove the light.

However, I'm almost sure the bulbs can be changed without taking the fog lights out?  Been that long since I changed one tbh.

LOL nope, DD has been busy helping us improve the garden....transported 13 slabs (heavy duty thick ones too, not the usual B&Q cheapies!) in her boot.

Did make the handling...errrr..interesting in the high winds we had! Just shows how bloody great practical cars these decks really are though, although have to say I won't be putting that many in her again. think that was probably the max weight she's ever had/ever will have in her.

Oh, and she's filthy from a weekend on our roads that are covered in some of the shittiest salt known to mankind, god knows whats in it but it makes one hell of a mess of the cars. Don't worry though, after she was unloaded, she was straight in for a bath! Now all nice and clean and shiney again.

  4. Amazing to see her last so long and give such reliable service. That mileage and the fact she still runs perfectly is deffo reasons to be proud of the wee Civic. I doubt there are any new cars for sale today that will still be going strong after so many years/miles. Deffo none of these stupid milk float EV's, that's for sure. Testiment to the quality of cars Honda used to make eh! Parts for these pre-facelift civic M's are like gold dust mate, especially the front wings and bonnet.  The bumpers front and rear and headlights/tail lights are also unique to these early Civic M's. Again, if she's going to a breakers, would be worth removing these first as you should get them sold pretty easily.

Few months ago I noticed a difference straight away after getting E10 a couple of times. When trying to start the car it would really struggle and take longer to fire up. Sometimes this happens slightly when I'm on less than 1/4 tank of fuel (probably just old fuel pump but you get used to it) and this went on for a week or two, but it was also around the start of winter with weather getting cold, so I couldn't be sure. Also felt sluggish.

Ever since then I've been using E5, firstly V Power but lately Texaco super unleaded (garage round the corner from me sells it and also the only place around with a premium diesel too!) And no problems, car fires up straight away even during the colder weather. I did top up with some E10 the other day after already having 1/2 tank of premium in, and no problems. That might be an option considering the ridiculous fuel prices!

Yeah, Gayle and I both said that if we were ever in an area where the only fuel was E10 then we would at least try and dilute it with a half tank of E5. Lucky not had to do that, and obviously Mindy has now gone so only DD that really needs the E5. BUUUT........even though the MINI and the Juke can run on it no probs, we are still using super unleaded for all our cars. Top hell with taking the chance of causing damage, crap fuel economy and possible fuel pipe damage.

  6. Hello stranger lol. Nice to see the love and attention these Civics are now getting. Seems more and more are being modded and restored. Love this one, reminds me of Ruby. Damn I still miss that car! She is unfortunately now sitting rotting away in someone's drive which is a total shame after the way she had been looked after all her life.

  7. Have seen them weeping on the side facing the road (so underside) but also a lot of muck and salt etc can sit on top of the tank unseen. By the time you spot it there (usually by the fumes) its usually rotted through. Not sure if our cars would get away with a plastic one if we could find one similar?

It's neither of those @Dave I can't remember the brand, EKIY maybe.

It's far from double din unfortunately. Screen is 9" across. And kinda tapered at the sides.

Ahh, thought it may have had the big screen but either a DD (no, not that DD lol) or a single din slotting into the dash. Would love an android in DD (and the MINI for that matter) but just wish Pioneer would do an Android single din  with the motorized DD screen. Know they do their own one but not a fan of the operating platform. Have looked at the Chinese ones (and had a few delivered that were either didn't work or were in bits lol) but love the sound of the Pioneers, always have. Got them in both DD and the MINI at the moment.

  9. That looks sweet as mate, really suits that head unit. Can't believe you managed to retrofit Cruise control, that's amazing! The one thing I wish DD and Poppy both had. Which android unit did you go for, is that the Atoto or the Xtrons? Oh, and was it a "true" double Din size as most of those ones aren't lol

Nice one Dave. Get a paintless dent man round for that. Miracle workers.

A spare washer bottle fell off shelf onto my bonnet a while back. Was furious. Cost me 90 quid but bloke came to my house and would never know it ever happened.

Deffo gonna look into that as tbh, I'm not a fan of filler! Know I'm going to respray the bonnet and VTiS front lip at some point as the paint is shocking on both now with tiny stone chips (not so tiny ones on the lip!) but filler always sinks/shrinks/cracks over time.

  11. Just a wee update with photos this time! So managed to get a hold of what are believed to be the last brand new packet of windscreen trim clips in the uk for our cars (although they are in a sealed oem "Rover 400" bag. Got them fitted to the new windscreen trip piece and fitted nice and secure.

And the dent in the bonnet (close up). It looks worse in this photo than it really is.

As can be seen from this angle..

The scratches came out of it all nicely, including the front passenger wing.

Last two are just DD in the crib lol

Sounds like that's a good plan matey. Can you not get a shed for the sherage stuff to change it back to a garage garage

lol, would be one hell of a shed mate, you seen the stuff we got in there? lmaorlol.gif1

So, will need to take pics but been busy on DD. Managed to mop and polish all the scratches out on the bonnet and wing so really pleased! Luckily it looks like the wheelbarrow didn't break the paint (god only knows how!) and the dent itself doesnt look too bad now all the marks and scratches are gone. Got off lightly I think!. She's tucked up in the garage now waiting on me getting to the bottom of that leak in the drivers side top of windscreen area. Done loads of tests and still can't find it (and it's now stopped lol) but did notice on the service pdf that there is a type of valve at the bottom of the roof drains in the front. So going to have a look at those and see if they are maybe blocked or something.

  13. Never heard of that one mate but think it would most likely point to a relay or if there is a module for the intermittent wipe it might be a faulty module. I've got the haynes manual in the garage so could have a looks and see. I think the Honda schematics from the service guide we have in the downloads section might show what parts make up the wash/wipe system so might be worth downloading it and having a look too.

UPDATE: Checked the service manual mate and page 20-76 shows the intermittent wipe module to be located in behind the centre console (I think, going by the image)

  15. haha thanks guys. Yeah, we had the 2nd storm last night but luckily no where near as bad as last one. Carport is still there at least but we've decided that we're going to demolish it when we get a chance as its a ramshackle thing put together by the previous owners and most of the wooden beams are rotten. Gonna build a nice new one (not that we really need it as we have the two garages, although the older one is the "Sher-age" as it's now used as a shed for storing  stuff etc. But nice to have the new garage and once built the new car port as two placed the cars can be sheltered. Trouble is we have 3 cars lol

  16. Gutted! Absolutely gutted! We had another storm here last night (another due tonight) and DD was taking cover in the carport next to the garage. Went out to her this morning to find her covered in crap, and our old metal wheel barrow on the bonnet! Needless to say, bonnet has now got a small dent, scratches and the front passenger wing is now scratched with all the debris that's been blown about round her. Got rid of the crap and took her for a drive to pick up a generator, and noticed when we got to Edinburgh the plastic pillar trim on the drivers side that goes down the side of the windscreen is gone☹️ Must have been loosened with the battering she took. Bloody furious at this weather, wish it and the stupid virus would just piss off and leave us alone. Anyone got a windscreen trim strip for sale? Can't believe she's went from looking mint to looking like a bloody shed overnight! Carport is also looking in a bad way, think tonights storm will bring it down so DD now parked in far end of drive away from the port/garages and next to the house beside Poppy and Effy. least she has her pals around her lol

If anyone does have a spare windscreen trim piece for the drivers side please let me know. I'll get pics of her later to show her sorry state.

  17. Yeah, total pia! lol Suppose thought with the age ext they aint as bad as some of the old cars I've had so shouldn't grumble too much! My old Cortina leaked from every possible place, constant swimming pool in the footwells. And in the winter, while everyone was deicing their cars, I was sitting inside my freezing cold Cortian scraping the ice off the INSIDE of the windscreen!! Christ, couldn't go back to those Cortina days now I tell ya! I'd be putting a bloody match to it......it'll either defrost with the heat of the flames or burn to then ground! lol

  18. Not posted in DD's thread for a while so time for  a wee update. Sadly, it's not good news! DD has been my daily driver for almost 3 years now (had been just kept as a show car in the garage) but think I mentioned earlier she had the dreaded water leak in the top corner of the A pillar (Common issue on these Civics). I thought I had got to the bottom of it as thought it was the bonding round the windscreen at the top maybe breaking down a little and having a tiny gap letting water in so removed all the trip surround and sealed it at the top. This hasn't worked! Thought it might be the sunroof drains so checked them but water is flowing through them fine. Then looked at the rubber seal around the sunroof, and thought maybe the sunroof wind deflector was maybe starting to let water in where it clips on? So took it off for a look, but it isn't getting in there either! On a side note, if you are looking to fit one of those deflectors, my advise would be to put maybe some silicon grease on the underside of the rubber seal so it isn't sitting on the paint. DD's has been on there since around 2007 (think thats when we got it fitted by Honda) and its unfortunately left the paint matt/flat under where it sat so now going to have to cut back with compound and then get the bummer on it to sort it.

So, back to the leak. I went out yesterday, and noticed the pass side is also now wet!! complain.gif1 After investigating further, it's not just the top corner on the pass side, but the whole edge from front to back is bloody wet! Roof lining is going to have to come out so I can actually see where the hell its coming in but have my suspicions that it's under the roof rails/gutter trim the issue lies. Massive job and total pia to get the roof lining out! I'll need to fix it too as the material has come away from the board due to the water. For now, I've put her in the garage so she can get dried out and is away from any rain/snow etc. She'll stay there till the weather improves a bit then I'll strip her down and get to the bottom of it. Least she's safe in there! Will also get to the bottom of the ABS light being on as not had a chance to sort that either!

If anyone has any spare A pillar trims they want to sell I'd be really interested as DD's has a couple of broken clips so give me a shout!

Poppy our wee MINI convertible 1st gen is now taking on the roll of my daily driver through winter even thought she was meant to be cosied up in the garage! Not had a chance to address the wee faults on her yet but did sort the engine temp issue so will update her thread now. She's driving fantastic though to be fair, really cracking wee car!

I'll get some photos of DD's wet headlining and the paint marks caused by the deflector tomorrow at some point and post them up.
