  1. Hey guys, I have just got a carbon fibre kit as i have been wanting to try out making my own carbon parts. I hav been practicing with fibre glass/ making my molds for a while now and i think im ready to give it a go. My question is what things do you guys think i should try? i think ill try somesort of subtle gurney flap to fit on the standard spoiler, the black piller covers on the doors,J's racing style cold air duct like on tegs/eg's... But what else?? Obviously i will have to make the molds so it may be a while before they start appearing on my car.
  2. how are you removing the sound deadening? a friend of mine used some plumbers freeze spray (not sure of it's proper name ) and hit with a hammer it just seems to shatter.
  3. Hi mate, sorry been away for a while (busy with work) Bushes were easy, I used a sharp drill to make loads of holes in the rubber so the core comes out, then a saw blade to split the outer sleeve of the bush. This needs to be done carefully so as not the cut the arm. TBH you don't need to go all the way through, just weaken the sleeve, then just knock it out with a large flat bladed screw driver and a lump hammer. Takes about 10 minutes per bush. I admit I got lazy after the first 2 and used an air grinder on the sleeves Sounds like you did the sleeves alot quicker than me. Although when it come to removing the bush itself i chucked mine on the bbq its much more enjoyable work looking at them with can of beer in one hand and a ciggie in the other while your bushes just fall out
  4. X2 looks mint now. what wheels are they again. id love some like that on mine, look just right
  5. Thanks bud! Id say if both the sides were as bad as this and with making your own repair sections aswell, I think i would be able to get it in rough primer in a week. I can imagine that time being halfed though if i were to buy proper repair panels It takes time doing some old fashioned panel beating lol
  6. Cheers matey, Yeh i know more than expected. getting on top of it now though.
  7. Hey Hey Hey! Thanks for your comments. More welding progress although being slow due to doing the clutch on my mates mb below. My sill is now all finished i found another two areas what had rather bad pitting and the metal was quite weak so....Out it come. It is now all welded up Primed with anti rust stuff and stonechipped. Next is to tackle the upper arch which will be a little more tricky as will need to look spot on. Im aiming to get this side in top coat next week end Providing i find time in the week to get my paint. Fingerscrossed Heres progress up to now. And the second. This is my friends M what he has just bought and the clutch went. No doubt he will be showing his face round here sometime soon.
  8. Update, Got the drives side lower arch/sill nearly finished today. It was a a right ball ache making the inner arch repair section, But all in all im very happy with the result. The inner arch welds aint very aesthetically pleasing due to not being able to get the grinder in but there perfectly strong and you cant really see them once seam sealer was applied. Heres how it stands now with 90% of filler work done, All seam sealed and with a coat of stopper to sand tomorrow Next jobs on list: weld in new arch lip weld in new rear arch replacement and make bumper mount REPEAT ON OTHER SIDE
  9. Yeh had welded a few little things before and practiced quite alot on scrap metal. Learnt mainly from watching a couple of my mates and youtube vids lol
  10. Yeh unfortunatly. The car has been in hartlepool most of its life so not sure if the sea air helped to cause this or just neglect. I'd advise any one to get the sill covers off on hondas this age as they always go there. Try cure them before its too late. Any way a bit more progress on the arch/sill. this side will be finished as far as welding goes tomorrow. Im rather pleased with the result, Even more so to say im making my own repair sections. I had a feeling it was gonna be a disaster Heres progress today to as it stands now with 1 skim of bridger.
  11. Love this. How did you go on taking the original bush sleeves out? Absolutle **** of a job
  12. Cheers chaps. Yeh im taking that route. Im not gonna rush things, And try to do it to the best of my abilities. Takes longer than you think though especially when making your own repair sections lol
  13. Started one of the major parts on my m today, The dreaded rust. Only learnt to weld a year ago so be kind Heres progress so far, More tomorrow weather permitting. Once seamsealed and painted with zinc 182
  14. That sounds great that. Ill try find some where alike round here, if not looks like a road trip there. Do you have any pics of your m on bbs?
  15. Forgot to say i degreased my engine bay at the weekend and it looks much better now. Still needs another hour or so spending on it though. Also this is the offending tyre that is no longer circle and is making that dreadfull rumble. Gonna replace all four soon as there all budget tyres
  16. Small update, Have some time to mess with the M due to work being dead so today it did. Fit a new drivers side track rod end as the old one had sheard just below the hole where the split pin goes through. fit a new pass side arb droplink as the old one was, well there wasnt one. bled the brakes properly with some help from the old man decided to black the internals of my lights. I have got one done and i love them although when i was putting it back in i broke the inner mount so i am going to have to repair that another day. I also took advantage of the light being out and polished up my lenses with, 2000 wet and dry then machine'd G3 the waxed it. it looks much better now. Thanks all for your positive comments makes the work worth while when i hear them. Theres still much more coming up this M
  17. So are you running spiggots then? i am using alloy nuts at the minuet and i have ordered some d1 spec ones too. I payed 100 pounds all with 5mm or over tread tryes on off of a volvo nut friend. Obviously they have been refurbed since.
