    Civic "almost" MB2

I want to introduce my lovely Pirat Black MB2. I bought it from the scrap yard for 300€. No working brakes,no working suspention,nothing...except the engine...the engine was like a new one.1,4 90hp 90k km. I startet with the brakes and the bushings. All new ones. So...The brakes was the first thing. New discs with new pads and two new calipers. The suspention was on second place. New bushings kit from Energy Suspention for the whole suspention. Koni shocks. I drived 70 000 km for two years. After that i take a desision that i have to change something with the engine. I read a lot of things about the minime set up(D14 block with Vtec head) But one sunny day a friend of mine send me a photo from a Del Sol(show off car) with only 70k on the clock. The engine-D16z6,the price 800€.Only the engine, the doors and the plastics of the car were not rotten.I boight the whole car for 800€ So i deside to put the engine in my car. Someone told me that is plug and play. Aaaaaaand it was not. I rewire the whole cables from the engine to the ECU. That was such a fun. But at the end it all went good. After that i thought that i could make some changes in the interior of the car. I put beige seats from Rover, black roof from alcantara(self made with my wife),arm rest from VTI I want to apollogise for my bad english. Be save and kick the vtec till the end

    K&N Panel Filter

Looking for the K&N panel filter that fits in the MA/MB/MC air filter box, I think they all use the same filter regardless of engine size, the K&N code is 33-2047 I believe. Obviously want it in good/reasonable condition, just don’t want to pay £55+ that it goes for on eBay now!

    Engine replacement

Hi all... I currently own for the last 4 years a civic 1.4i S Hatchback MB2 As I intent to keep it.. I'm thinking in the near future to replace the engine, as already done 150k and the car does 700 miles round trips at least once a month!! At the moment there is nothing wrong with the engine but I would be happy to replace with a newer used motor 1.4 with lower mileage and probably more economical!! My engine's code is D14Z4 - To your experience could you please suggest in terms of compatibility? Thanks in advance for your time!!

    My Silver MB2 Thread

Hi guys, thought I may as well make a thread for my little MB2 seeing as I'm here! Backstory - The car has been in the family from new. It belonged to my Great-Grandad to start with who then gave it to his son in law (my Grandad) who passed the car on to me in 2016 when he became very ill before he passed away. I've only had my test passed for the last 14 months and so this is my first car! Therefore I'm trying to look after it the best I can and because there's so much that can be done modding wise, especially with it being the base model, it gives a lot of options. The car really hasn't done much mileage at all. I got the car on 80,000 and only sitting at just under 84,000 now. It's pretty standard, still on original steel wheels & ride height, got its fair share of scratches and slight dents but it shines up pretty well. The car has been reliable as hell for as long as I remember, so I'm going to just keep it going for as long as possible. I've really fallen in love with these MB Civic's and always had an admiration for Honda/older Civic's before this. In my ownership it has had the following repairs/slight mods with a lot more planned! - New standard exhaust back box because it completely blew through a couple months into driving it. - Full service in January this year, coolant etc last replaced in 2015 but low miles like I said - New Pioneer radio/CD player (went for CD not Bluetooth.. Yes I'm old fashioned!) - New wipers all round - New number plates - Original floor mats - VTI front lip (first thing I've ever sprayed up myself) - De-Chromed front grille (Vinyl wrapped) - Colour matched wing mirrors & door handles (One electric mirror wasn't working so took the chance to get rid of the black plastic all round) - VTI Carbon dash trim & gear stick surround - VTI Gear knob - VTI door tweeters (not wired in yet, got replacement door looms but can't unplug main connection so will have to cut into wires) - Wind deflectors - OEM mud guards/flaps fitted In the coming weeks/months things I should have done include front fog lights and something I've only seen one or two guys do, a Rover 45/MGZS boot lip spoiler. I'm just going to 3M tape this on once painted silver, because I also have a spoiler from a 1.4 sport that I need to finish painting and eventually get on. And I'm not really sure about having 2 spoilers haha! Also after a set of alloys, even the original 4x100 MB ones will do. Wouldn't mind getting a rear ARB on too eventually but need to mod/change lower control arms for that so it's a bigger job for down the line. Going to scrub away some rust and stone chip or underseal underneath & wheel arches in time for winter too. Seen some de-chromed headlights again recently and very tempted to buy some and do this myself! Thoughts and suggestions are very welcome & I'm glad to be on here! First couple pics are standard, last pic is how it looks now and one to show the test fit of the boot lip.
  6. Hi there, Got my test next month and I've been eyeing up a 2000 Civic 5 door saloon 1.4iS (I believe it's an MB2 D14A8), as it's cheap to buy and insure and they have a reputation of being reliable. I have a strong fascination for this car and it's potential to be upgraded and overtime I want to make it my own through gradual modification. And I probably don't know an awful lot, so I want to learn and get ideas + suggestions that will also help me to make decisions specific to this car. First mods I plan to do: Wheels and tyres: planning on getting some 17x7.5 with either 215/45 or 225/45. But I want to know what range of tyre sizes will be suitable. Brake Pads, Coilovers, Cool air intake: what's good? What's affordable? What's a mix of both? Body work: any low profile body work that facelifts the car, and where to get them? (Such as the body work on VTi-S models). May also look into getting an LSD, open to suggestions of what to get, new or second hand, and what to look out for. General suggestions also welcome, feel free to educate me, I'm here to learn. Thank you

    My little MB2..

Hello everyone, put this off for sometime as wanted to get a few things done and sorted before starting this thread.Where to start, well I bought my Mb2 nearly two years ago from a neighbour who was going to part exchange the car in so had it for £200 bargain really as they're an elderly couple and had the car from new, garaged it and only had 65k on the clock. After I bought her and the keys were handed over, that's where the fun started!First thing I did was buy some his lights which made a big difference, they are some Chinese brand but have been on 2 years now. Next was some fogs with another hid kit on, I just couldn't justify paying prices of the second hand fogs for the car. After saving up some more I bought some 17" alloys which I have just taken off due to hopefully getting some 15" BBS ones. After that I thought to take some attention to under the hood. A induction kit has been added which just made it sound meatier, not so sure about performance. Then got a few bargains. Bought a front and rear brace both for £10! Tried to make the back brace look as pretty as I could by cutting part of the carpet out the back , as I'm not the best at making things look neat Biggest and the best mod I've done has got to be my coilovers got them off Matt who's Mb sadly died.Along when purchasing his coilovers I also bought blacked out headlights and his black grill..all this was great and Matt is such a top lad! All that fitted and she is looking mighty fine. Then I made a trip to to get a silver vti-s kit which set me back £60! I know what a bargain! The bad points which I've finally got the ball rolling are the back arches, for some reason even though the couple who owned KT before garaged her , the arches are eaten away so getting those sorted in the upcoming months.and finally slight paint flaking on my back bumper but all in all everything else is rosey. Could anyone give me some ideas for some engine mods? I have been thinking of a swap but don't know if worth it? Let me know !!! Thanks and will try and update as often as possible

    Bush Replacement

Hi guys, so my Mb2 is going to be turning 20 very soon this year So one of the jobs I’m wanting to do is replacing all major bushings etc. I’ve just never done this before and have no idea what bushes are on the car, front suspension and back. Also where can I get all the right parts and how much is it going to cost approximately? Trailing arm bushes badly need doing, also sure I’ve heard the front anti roll bar knocking, rear LCA bushes could do with replacing as well. Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated!
  9. Awesome car. Wanting to make it more awesome tho. Any ideas will be appreciated

    Mud Guards

Hi, desperately looking for a full set of mud guards for the MB's, preferably new or in good condition. If not then I would take the rears only, maybe somebody has taken them off to fit a VTIS lip? Arranged to buy some from somebody on eBay but once again an eBay seller is letting me down. Have the front ones fitted so feel kind of stupid without rear ones also. But the front ones are quite worn so wouldn't mind replacements. Thanks!

    Spoiler Fitting

Hi I'm just wondering if anybody here has experience with fitting the OEM/standard Mb's spoiler onto one that originally didn't have one? Mb2/4 etc Got a spoiler with brake light wiring all complete etc and I'm wondering how to go about it or to bother at all. - Any tips for drilling screw holes in the boot lid for the spoiler? This is what's making me not want to do it to be honest. Scared I'll mess it up. Need the bolts too. - Is there anywhere for the brake light wiring to plug into on the MB2's? I've taken the boot interior out and looked and can't see where it would go to. Any tips/pictures etc would help too. Thanks!

    Remote Locking Fob/Key

Looking for some help please people, like many others the terrible Infra Red remote locking fob has stopped working for my car. I got the remote from the ex-ex owner of my car (been in the family since new) and it was totally disconnected having not been used for years. not lighting up even with new batteries, absolutely dead and I've since lost it anyway. If the opportunity was there to buy a brand new remote/fob, how easy is it to get this coded to your car's code? I imagine it will be a Honda dealership jobby, but what is it likely to set me back? Bearing in mind I will have a brand new never used remote? Thanks! (I know an aftermarket central locking system would no doubt be cheaper but there's also all the wiring involved and paying somebody to do it!)

    Rear LCA Questions

Hi guys, hoping you can help me with the following. I'm in need of a trailing arm bush replacing and when inspecting everything the garage has advised that maybe the lower control arm bushes could do with replacing to improve suspension/noise & clunking. They're not desperate but it seems much easier to get a whole new set of LCA's however I can't find them ANYWHERE online. The Eg/Dc2 ones don't fit I'm led to believe. My second point though, I have an Mb2 and so no rear anti roll bar, so the holes for this are none existent on the LCA's, but I've seen posts on here saying all Mb's had the same LCA's(?). I've seen a slight indent where the hole would be on one side and that's all. If I wanted to fit an ARB, would I need new LCA's from an Mb6 or MGZS etc? Thanks!

    Civic 1.4i Sport MB2

Honda Civic Sport 1.4 5dr Hatchback Mot - 06/2018 (3 advisories) 124k - some history Dudley - West Midlands Bought off an elderly gentleman as a stop gap car as they are reliable and eco. Ended up keeping it longer than expected. Not much paperwork as the guy lost the book, but he assured me it was well maintained (oil was decent and air filter looked pretty fresh so took his word). Timing belt, tentioner and water pump done at 91k (no proof). I have most of the paper work for the bits Iv done below. Cars pretty clean for age, but don't think it's spotless. Shopping trolly dents on panels, and surface rust appearing on one rear arch after a stone chip which got water under the paint (arches are solid and better than most civics). Drivers side mirror had a hole, so iv covered it with duct tape. Front bumper has been pushed in by a few millimetres, previous owner drove too far into his garage lol. The car actually looks much better than im making it out to be, I'm just being picky. Very economic and nippy for a 1.4. Does 40mpg around town and more on a run. Suprisingly quick (quicker than a 1.5) Iv changed several parts since owning it such and clutch slave cylinder, battery, drop links, rear trailing arm bushes, thermostat and switch etc so it's ready to just jump in and drive. At 106k (mobil1 10w40 oil/ mann air/mann fuel/ngk plugs/coolant flush). At 116k (Mobil1 10w40 oil with genuine Honda filter) Lower ball joints have been replaced with oem quality ones. At 123k rear pagid pads, front brake overhaul (ebc turbo discs/pagid pads/os brake line and pad fitting kits). Being one of the last Sport models produced, this has 262mm/242mm discs all round. Exhaust is in good order. Very quiet and no rattles. Clutch is abit high but has been like that since I've owned it and it doesn't slip. Been told you can adjust it from the clutch master cylinder but iv got used to it now so left it. Has a Vti front lip in original factory colour. Sports rear spoiler with third brake light. Facelift interior so half leather sports seats, carbon fiber style inserts, leather armrest, leather steering wheel and front electrics. Everything works including air con. Good tyres all round Recent 4 wheel alignment As you can probably tell, this cars been well looked after, using quality parts. Sorry for the long essay but I like to be thorough. Cars served me well but no longer needed. Been parked up few months and need it gone. £600 ono

  18. So today, I, completely and utterly f**ked up. Did a full service, gasket change, checked for warpages etc (had blown head gasket for like 2 months but not time to do it), valve lash adjustment, brakes etc. Basically a pre-winter overhaul before I start building a D16 to drop in. I got round to torquing the bolts and noticed they were about (exactly, on measurement) 20mm longer. The bolts were longer but no-issue, I've worked in parts before and know that 1 part can cross reference 100 vehicles all with various odd differences so just ran with it. Chased threads with an old bolt and then dropped the head on dropped all the bolts in and started in sequence going up to hand tight then started torquing with the wrench. First steps 14ft-lb (according to local Honda parts dept) then 39ft-lb and final 2 stages both at 49ft-lb to ensure complete seal. I did steps 1 and 2, no issues, threads were perfect but noticed the bolts were sat at around 16-18mm above the face of the head. At this point I was looking and couldnt figure out what was going on. I got my dad outside to look and give an opinion (chartered aerospace engineer) who was a bit confused but said "is that the last step of torque?" I said no there are 2 others, he then pointed out that they might close down in the 3rd step because you know they used 4 steps for a reason. I agreed. I did the 1st bolt in the sequence and there was a ping, I froze, looked down as water started pouring out the front of the block. I did not swear, cry, shout or anything I just stood in disbelief. I removed a bolt and did a size comparison and found exactly 20mm was different and I'd hit the bottom of the block. as I continued to torque the bolt couldn't go anywhere but outwards. Damn.

    Airconditioning

Hello everyone, I'm restoring an MB2 and I was wondering if the complete airco system is interchangeable with other Civic models? Mine originally had airconditioning, but the previous owner decided to remove everything.. I have a pump and condesor lying around from my EJ6 (D16Y7) but I don't have the hoses/lines anymore that need to be mounted in the engine bay. Can someone help me? Thanks
  20. Having owned this for nearly 4 months now, I thought I'd start a project thread. Sat on a friends wheels... with comical arch-gap! Stance is pretty good though, so I atleast know roughly what offset to go for when buying wheels, these were 7J ET25 Ordered a few bits recently, will be fitting these next week along with the stainless 4-2-1 manifold I was given. Plans for the future are wheels, possibly Klutch SL1's, decent coilovers at some point and a full respray. Matt
  21. I just bought an mb2 can anyway give me ideas of what to do and where to buy parts for it from

    My Pirates Black mb2

Heres my mb2 1.4 sport i bought for £250 near a year ago. No mot at time but 3 tyres and service it passed no problems. Since then ive replaced window regalator fitted 15 tsw with 4 toyos cf2 tyres till i get new wheels in 2months. Have big plans for this car as ive never seen a 1.4 in this colour and it stands out in the sun. Body work dose need a bit of work but good for its age, will be sorted after i come back from holidays. Bought a d16y8 engine to turbo also, it will be worked on while body work is getting painted.
