Water leaks into spare tyre well & rear seats assistance please
frunkster replied to frunkster's question in SOS! Help!!
Well I did finally get her 100% water tight, there were several places where it was getting in, the biggest issues were the panel joints under the far ends of the roof rail flashing clip on bits, but also a coule near the sun roof drains, I want to do a write up when I have time to pinpoint all the areas with lots of photos as it may help others out with the issue in future. -
Sorry to hear that Dave, been in the same boat myself for a while now on the health front which sucks & limits our ability to get anything done, we moved 8 years back after a few previous moves in the previous 5 years & I don't envy you, moving is stresful mate. Yep I am still on here, not half as frequently as I should be in all honesty, but I am rather lacking when it comes to mechanical things & find it difficulat & daunting at times, I wish I were more naturally mechanically gifted, but you can't be good at everything, I have managed to sort the leaks of which there were far to many as well as replace the hedliner, but I have an odd area of corrosion I am going to post about later. nice to see you still on here though Dave

Got there in the end Simon, she's not 100% leak free & has a new headliner to boot, now the long list of other things to deal with, I'll get there though

20 years that's some going & must also be some dedication Simon, I've seled the other top areas around the rear of the weather strips right at the back quarter below the roof rails, it p**sed it down today & the area that was getting all the water on the drivers side is dry as a bone, I did however still find maybe 10 to 20ml of water in the wheel well that had drained down from the side to side seal there, the one under the boot catch & inside the well, I'm hoping that it's just residual water from the previous day slowly making it's way out, but I plan to get the hose on it again to check it, but may not have to after looking at the weather report, seems p**sing it down again for a few hours tomorrow, so one way or another I'll find out if there's still a small leak, if there is I am now clutching at straws on where the heck it could be getting in, but I really want to eliminate every single leak no matter how small, fingers crossed but it's not the easiest of areas to check with no exterior seal there or any obvious areas above now where it could be getting in. if it is still leanking a tiny bit I have a hunch it's inside the tail light where the panels join, but I have looked at them very closely & although they look a bit ropey on the photo, I can't see as much as a 1mm gap anywhere, but will be getting a little tiger seals on them just in case.

Nightmare these leaks Simon, great to hear you've still got the VTI, wish I still had mine, I sold it as figured I'd pick another up, but ever since I sold her the prices have been rising fast. I have been back a it this morning, I think I may have nailed down the leak, I'm going to try & get a "how to lock down those water leaks" guide done if it works, as I've about got a handle on pretty much every possible place it can get in & was doing, I'll patch this area up first & have the hose pipe back on it to be sure before I do though, figure it may help others out in future & maybe keep a few more of these from getting scrapped. if this fixes it, the other decks getting the same treatment as that one also leaks into the spare wheel well, though luckily not a tenth as bad as this one, mad as she's got 100k more on the clock & is a little older to.

Water leaks into spare tyre well & rear seats assistance please
frunkster replied to frunkster's question in SOS! Help!!
I should have updated this a little Simon, but with no traffic at all I've been asking on some of the FB groups, you are spot on though as I had all the roof rails & weather strips off the roof & found an area rigth at the back of one on the drivers side where the seal had given way, this has been dealt with & it's reduced the leak from a torrent to a trickle, but there's still water getting in, I suspect from the top panel join behind the tail lights, I did seal up the bottom joint with tiger seal, but soon as the weather lets up I want to do the top ones as I suspect they are my culprit, I suspect it's getting in there & trickling down to the inside near where the rear sunroof drain exit pipes are located, well a little further back directly behind the lights. But I'm also getting it coming through very slowly in the spare wheel well at either end of the top panel joint/seal, someones already been quite happy with mastic sealing it all up from the inside already (before I get her) but that's not solving the problem just delaying it, I want to tackle the cause not the symtom & get her water tight the right way as water inside the panels you can't see will as we know not end well. I really hope it's just as said water coming in from the tail light top joint & making it's way down to this join in the panels in the well, god knows I've plugged enough leaks now, at least I'm moving in the right direction, I'm not doing any other jobs on this one till I get her 100% water tight as would be throwing good money after bad. -
Cracked window trims - how to get them off without damage question
frunkster replied to frunkster's question in SOS! Help!!
Thanks Simon, warm weather eh, that's a distant memory, looking forward to seeing the sun again, these are on the list for my older 2 as both are suffering with the plastic coating on them craking & peeling quie badly, maybe a job for later in the year then, I'm just worried about breaking them when removing, after reading others on here have had problems. I think I'm just going to sprey them with Hammerite if I get them off ok -
Great to see you are still on here Simon, it's been a while for me so I'm as guilty as the rest for not posting, but it sure is quiet, was really hoping to get some advice on my bloody water leak issues, I''ve been trolling the forum threads trying to find answers, seems I bought myself a Sievic, it's in good nick but OMG is she peppered with small leaks all over the shop, slowly getting though plugging them all. you've always been a huge help when I've posted previously, you still running the 1.8? I miss mine.

Reviving an old thread here I know, but I'm dealing with multiple leaks on aerodeck I just picked up & this is one of the areas I have not been able to figure out, where the water is coming in from, obviously from above, I was all set to get the rear bumper removed & deal from the issue from the outside, but I see this has been atempted on an MB & no exteria seel/joint could be located, so the leak much be coming in higher up & rickling down to that section. A previous owner has been trying to seal thee area up from the inside with what looks like mastic, but I was to deal with where it's coming in, not where it's coming out, as that will only leave water sloshing about inside the panels. Here's where I have spotted 2 small leaks getting into mine

I think I must have got real lucky on at least 1 aspect with the car I just picked up as it has a set of these on, good thing as there's anough not so great points, but her it's 26 years old now, so you have to take the rough with the smooth, I was hoping to pick another set up for my other deck, but seems they are near impossible to find. That headlight conversion looks the mutts BTW, very classy

Hi all I know I've never been what you'd call an active poster, but I've always had some great support & advice offered in years gone by, it would seem the forum has gone silent though, I've posted up a couple of requests in the SOS section which have been up for some time with no replies, I must admit I have asked more questions than I have been able to answer as I'm not the most mechanically gifted individual. Each time I've been on in the last week I've noted I am the only member online, just guest users, has everyone abandoned the forum in favor of the dreaded social media? heck I'm on facebook myself in a few civic groups, but the platform is fairly useless when it comes to information & guides as well as the real community atmosphere you get on the forum(s), I've seen it with other interest forums I use in hobbies, a massive decline in traffic & active members. I really hope we don't forget these forums are the backbone of our hobbies, social media is not the be all & end all, all the instant gratification is short lived. I hope we can see this place more active again going forward & if anyone has some advice on my SOS threads I'd surely appreciate any help anyone could offer.

Cracked window trims - how to get them off without damage question
frunkster posted a question in SOS! Help!!
Cracked window trims - how to get them off without damage question, so as per the title, I have 3 civics now MB2/MB9 & MC1, 2 of them have the usual cracked window trims, the ones at the base of the side windows & I would like to take them off, de moss them & get them stripped & painted as they are an eye saw. I read another thread in the how to section which suggested facing the car, gripping them & pulling back toward yourself & not to loose the clips in the process, but I can't seem to find any useful guides with photos or videos. From what I have read on here so far, this is not quite as simple as one would like & it's quite easy to damage/bend them in the process, any pointers would be very greatly appreciated before I go f$$k s**t up -
Excellent & very detailed write up UKCivic!! I have saved this to a document, as it's looking like a job on the cards for me now (pun intended), I've got 2 decks & a 1.4 & all have some sagging issues urgh. Do you by chance know if you can buy replacement boards for the aerodeck headliner - the part under the fabric? as if the foam has badly degraded it's near impossible to get a good adheasion on the new liner & I think I'd like to either be able to scrape off all the old foam if possible or replace the entire thing, the actual liner I have for the one I'm thinking of doing / have to do, is clean & intact (the liner material) so I'm hoping I can reuse it, but the backing card is my concern.

Urgent Headlight Question (headlights needed)
frunkster replied to TaikoHax's question in SOS! Help!!
Pollising them can make a huge difference, my old deck faild the MOT last year due to it, had them buffed out & went straight through, so maybe a quicker & cheaper fix than replacement units, as others have said you'd really struggle finding replacements in LHD here in the UK & I don't think you can even still buy OME new, so even if you got a set they'd be 2nd hand, just take your time & they should come back up fairly well, it's an ongoing process though, once they start clouding out it's a once every couple of years job
