    B18C4 running rich

Sooo... it's a third year in a row failing mot due to high emissions. This time it's running quite rich, lambda shows 0.6. Co% and HC about 10 tenfold past the limits. And can't seem to find the source. Here's my investigation so far: - no vacuum leaks - compression test ok - no visible leaks in exhaust system - plugs in need of change but nothing critical about their condition - plug wires ok - timing ok - ecu reseted - worn cap + rotor, a little bit of play in dizzy axle + dizzy a bit noisy = gonna replace distributor. But not in such a bad condition that would explain the richness. - coolant reservoir was empty, only a bit of dark brown muck on the bottom. At first thought it was oil, but when i rinsed it turned out was (atleast mostly) dirt etc. Discovered a small crack on the reservoir lid, might be a cause. Besides the reservoir no other clues pointing to a possibly leaking head gasket. Any ideas what to look for? One suggestion was that a faulty heat sensor etc. could be feeding the ecu wrong info and messing up the mix? Valve stem leak also one possible cause. In addition to the dizzy i'm planning on replacing the ecu with a p28 with Hondata to get better data about what's happening. And ofcourse once it's fixed, then it's tuning time .

    B18c4 and s9b box

I've got a b18c4 tall engine and a s9b box sat around doing nothing. I was planning on keeping it to build but I cant see that ever happening. Engine smoked a little and used abit of oil the gearbox had a wine. Any ideas on what this would be worth?
  5. have a mb6 Everytime i switch car off there is a buzzing noise coming from under the brake servo. And this drains my battery. Its like a noise the fuel pump makes when u put ignition on. Can anybody advise what this could be

    D16 swap

Can anyone tell me where i can go for a simple d16 swap as an upgrade to my gutless 1.4 and how much this simple swap would cost? I know the d16 as standard isnt anything magical either but im not looking for mega bhp at the moment just want to improve the overall drive and bit more grunt... but do have a plan to d16 turbo when ever possible with circumtances. Ive already contacted LF honda and although he replied a few times regarding d16 turbo and my budget, i didnt get the simple answer i want as above first sentence...either he is busy or not interested.. Im in west midlands dont mind travelling a bit and would like a drive in drive out service for a tidy swap with a healthy engine.. Sorry if this is boring but i appreciate any input...

    MA9 airbox?

Hi, I have recently bought a 1996 N reg MA9 which I really like, has been lightly modded but I'd like it as stock as possible seeing as it is the eco model (already very impressed with the MPG for something so old, has done over 200 miles on 20quid of fuel) It has some kind of cheap aftermarket induction kit installed. Does anyone know where I can source a stock airbox for cheap? Or if anyone knows any other models that use the same airbox, can't find on internet (seems pointless having an induction kit on the economy vtec-e d15z3 engine and the MOT is soon and don't want it to fail on emissions)

    K&N Panel Filter

Looking for the K&N panel filter that fits in the MA/MB/MC air filter box, I think they all use the same filter regardless of engine size, the K&N code is 33-2047 I believe. Obviously want it in good/reasonable condition, just don’t want to pay £55+ that it goes for on eBay now!

    Engine replacement

Hi all... I currently own for the last 4 years a civic 1.4i S Hatchback MB2 As I intent to keep it.. I'm thinking in the near future to replace the engine, as already done 150k and the car does 700 miles round trips at least once a month!! At the moment there is nothing wrong with the engine but I would be happy to replace with a newer used motor 1.4 with lower mileage and probably more economical!! My engine's code is D14Z4 - To your experience could you please suggest in terms of compatibility? Thanks in advance for your time!!

    D16W3

Good Afternoon All, I have a quick question. I have a 1999 MB4 with the D16W3 engine, no VTEC for me The problem is though I don't see this engine number listed in either the maintenance guide or the Haynes manual for this car. I know it's a SOHC with a higher compression than most engines listed but I want to know that I'm following the right information. I'm guessing the details for the other 1590 CC SOHC engines that are listed would do the trick? Many thanks

    Oil cooler install help

Hello folks. I'm having a bit of trouble trying to fit my oil cooler. I have the cooler mounted and everything I need to do the job and also plumb in all my gauges aswell. I'm using a thermostatic mocal sandwich plate to feed the cooler but there doesn't seem to be any room to mount it. Iv seen plenty of install guides and videos of doing it and no one seem to have trouble fitting the plat. But on the b18c4 there just seems to be no room around it. You can get the plate on but there is no room for fittings and the hoses to go. There seem to be more hoses and random lines on the back of a b18c4 block than any other engine from pics iv seen. Has anyone else managed to fit one and how did they do it? Thanks
  12. Would anyone be interested in any parts if I broke my civic mb6 vti b18c4. Unfortunately the shell is far too gone and I wouldn't feel happy selling the full car to someone due to the extent of the rust (underbody, sills and arches). The engine and shell has done 89,300miles Engine is strong and pulls well in vtec. Doesnt burn oil or use coolant. Gearbox has no crunches and lsd engages fine. Clutch would benefit from being replaced. The b18c4 engine swap will come with the rolling shell on standard wheels as unfortunately I don't have the time to take the engine out and store it. The engine swap will consist of the engine, loom, radiator &hoses, ecu, s9b lsd gearbox and driveshafts. This way you can see the engine running before purchasing. The car is completely standard bar the exhaust. Will have the toyo sport catback exhaust for sale also. Any other bits that anyone wants, drop me an inbox and ill be happy to help. In no rush to sell parts at daft prices so no silly offers as I know what things are worth

Talk to me about power gains

Hey guys, long time I know but as soon I get rid of this financed Mercedes I’ll be back on the deck and back here as a regular! in the mean time I’m thinking about my options, I thought I’d post in here so any responses or information that’s given will be there for anyone else scrolling through the engine section. i want to get some gains going on in the bay... so I just wondered if someone could spend a few minutes to explain a bit about the options on all of the following.... cams, throttle bodies, manifolds, ecu’s and anything else sort of related which can acquire improved performance. willing to spend a bit of dough but not after a 2k build otherwise I may as well boost it lol... way out of my budget!! look forward to replies
  15. Hello all, I hope someone can help me. Have had this ongoing intermittent problem for over a year & it's getting worse / more frequent, I have had several mechanics have a look & no one has been able to lock down exactly what the issue is as it could be so many things, but hoping someone else on here may do. Usually it starts spluttering loosing power mid revs but has done in all rev ranges over time, now I get most times when I re fill the tank (but not always) which makes me think it's a fuel issue (injectors partially blocked etc) but have been told it could well be the distributor. It tends to go if you change gear & sometimes also clears when you give it some welly, but not always, tends to only last a few miles & then drives normal, but it's been becoming very frequent to the point of most times it's driven, so i really want to tackle the issue before it leaves me stranded. Things checked Lambda has been checked, not prefect put working within acceptable tolerances O2 sensor was checked & seemed to be working fine HT leads been out one by one at night on the engine to check for one arching New fuel filter fitted. Iridium spark plugs fitted I just don't want to spend a fortune on this that & the other in the elimination process if I can help it as I am on quite a low budget being no longer capable of work due to injuries from an RTA, but I love this car & want to keep it in good order mechanical. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Air intake pipe has a hole

Hello, friends. Was changing engine oil on my Civic MB3 the other day and noticed the pipe between the air filter and the engine has a little hole. The car is fine to drive and never had problems with it but I don't like that thing over there. It's the tube of number 6. All the sites where they sell this tube have it discontinued so I guess I won't find it to buy, and even If i could it seems expensive. So is there a way to seal that hole? Or should I try to find one at a scrapyard? Thanks.

    Thinking or turboing MB6

Has anyone hered turboed their MB6 and can advise me what is best way to go about this. I've been told to stay away from ebay £500turbo kit but don't fancy paying £2.5k from H Tune. I have collected a few bits so far, tubular manifold, braided rocker cover, oil catch can, aem fuel rail and pressure regulator, walbro 255 pump, p28 ecu, I know what bits I need but debating what turbo is good for atleast 350bhp and would you recommend running it stock engine or forge as don't want this to also end up as my brothers 350bhp scooby which blew up. Correct me Im wrong but do I just stick the turbo kit on B18C4 as most people tell me the engine is set up for turbo kit from factory? Also recommend me decent tuning places?

    D14A8 engine conversion

Hi all, i have recently purchased a mb2 civic that comes with a D14A8, the car has done 180k miles and i was looking to change the engine for one with less miles a bit more tuning potential. Is a d15b7 a straight swap ? I'm aware that the mounts ect are the same it was mostly the wiring side of things. Can i use my existing dizzy or will it need to be changed ? thanks in advance

  22. Hi, Despite thorough research i can't seem to find a definitive answer to this: which OBD is B18C4, and do i need a conversion harness to install a obd1 P28 ecu? I've only found very mixed answers. Some say that it's obd2a, some say it's obd2b. And that it's got a obd1 loom. So i'm a bit confused here. Anyone? Or can i check this somehow in the car, i've never fiddled with ecus before.

    MB4 to B16 swap

Its been a while since I've been in the greasy bits of a honda. I've lost my company car so have taken over the wife's mint MB4 1.6SE. She gets the new family car. As its a single cam vtec am I correct in thinking a B16 swap would be able to run on the existing loom with the vtec signal being the same? Engine mounts and driveshafts? Although reco-prop are down the road from me, i'd be looking at at weekend swap. Cheers Stu
  24. Guys, for a longer period i have something like tiny grinding on slow shifts and slightly not so smooth shifting, which i solve with double clutchnig or faster shifting. Along with this, reverse gear somethimes doesnt want to engage, and after s**ting to any fwd gear, it slides in. Pretty common issue, as i can read. Beside this, all the time lever is light and clicking precise. But, few days ago, after night in garrage, gear lever at once became hard to engage. Rest of the gears work as before, only reverse is problem. Like it is jammed somehow, and needs more pull. Sometimes it slide smoother. It is the same both with engine on and off. Any ideas?
