VTISmichael
Well ive worked out its not the coil, the spark is getting to the centre button in the cap but isnt sending the spark to the ht leads. So I tried putting in the rotor arm in the cap and turning her over and that gets the spark to the ht lead but when the rotor is on the unit it doesnt work!So its either the rotor arm or the distributor unit hmmm very strange... Krzys
Sounds like you've got it localised though! I reckon it could be the cap itself?
Mr Brown
on a car of this generation are the cap and rotar arm really cheap to buy, if so must be worth changing both as from what you say it is pointing in that area...

NIKH25
If you say when the rotor is in the cap the spark is firing to the leads, then that would point away from the cap and rotor and more to the actual dizzy. Having said that if the cap etc are only a few quid it would be worth changing them to see if it makes a difference.
VTISmichael
The caps are around £10-20+ depending where get it and the rotor is £2! i tried my old cap and nothing, the fact i put the rotor arm in by hand and i get a spark means the cap is fine. i tried putting a washer inside the rotor arm hole to push it out, that didnt work. Next i had a look at the plate on the rotor arm and there is movement but i pushed it all the way out and nothing sooo i could be the rotor arm! Im ordering a new one now and searching for dizzy unit now, only decent ones i can find are from the U.S which will take time.

VTISmichael
Well today's proding didnt get anywhere, got frustrated and took the whole distributor unit off, it looked ok but i can see rusty parts behind the plate inside. I rinsed it out with wd40 and reassembled and still no spark! So its got to be something in the distbritutor i think, looking for a recon/new/ gd condition one, ive seen ones from £500 to £150! but the cheaper ones are from the U.S, 24-7 spares has one for £168 delivered but i dont know if its new or even the right one, calling them tomorrow. Krzys
You'll get it sorted dude! Just make sure the parts are suitable for an A20a2 when ordering, though you can double check which engine yours is on the bulkhead but I'm pretty sure it's the same as mine!
