Right guys, I haven't been online in ages but some time ago I mentioned sorting my brakes out. Anyway I didnt and last month the deck failed its MOT on brakes as expected. Since then I've been in the process of stripping and rebuilding the braking system. I haven't quite finished yet but here are some photos so far.

This is one of the front pads, no wonder it failed.

All the calipers were shot blasted and treated to a number of coats of smooth red Hammerite.

The calipers were then rebuilt with all new seals and fitted with hawk HPS pads.

I decided to take the advise offered and go with Mtec discs but with the black coating and also a set of Hel braided hoses to finish of the set up.

So far the front drivers side is the only one fitted, the other calipers are still to assemble.

I'll update further when I finish the rest.

Missed this the first time around.. Lovely looking deck mate ;)

What was the name of the guys who did the dent repair?

The dents were removed by a guy who my partner knows. He does all the contract work for the dealership that she works for.

Nice one Gary !

That'll make a difference! What fluid are you going with ?

Just using standard fluid, I have no real reason to use anything other, I used ate super blue in the prelude and will probably do the same again but my deck is never likely to see track time.

Brakes are now complete and look something like this

The car also failed it mot on emissions which was a bit unexpected. I had refitted the cat and the original ecu but it seems that was not enough so I had my local exhaust specialist fit a new cat and thought I'd try giving it a terraclean.

For anyone that doesn't know, a terraclean is like a fuel treatment that is connected directly to your fuel system and pumped in via a machine. I spotted it on wheeler dealers and its benefits are well documented. Plus I found that my local terraclean agent lived in the next street to me so it was quite convenient.

After the process was completed it went straight to the test centre and flew threw the emissions test with virtually no co emissions and very little hydrocarbons. The brakes are now fully bedded in and are excellent. Very progressive with a much firmer feel to them. It also seems to run much smoother after the terraclean and I can barely hear it when idling. Would definitely recommend it to anyone having emissions problems or even just to refresh a tired engine.

I can also now report that the brakes have now been on the car for more than a fortnight without it being cleaned and there is not a single spec of brake dust to be seen on my white wheels. It would seem that the mtec discs and hawk pads is probably the best all round set up I've ever fitted to a car.
