@Chandler gave my originals a polish up a couple of years back when they first started to go but this winter I kept blowing bulbs and I think it was just time to freshen it up

I changed the bulbs my old MB dash but I canny remember the name of them now! Argh!

Looks a tidy example there.
Plenty of build threads to read that may give you some inspiration.
As for clawing back lost power, maintenance work is your friend.
I wouldn't worry too much about power if this is indeed your first car. Plus the D16 isn't worth spending loads on for power unless you're going to boost it.
There are many ways to skin a cat.

Mine are fairly straight forward to remove, headliner out to access the fixings like the Aerodeck. Going to try using some products on mine first as that might save me some hassle, well I say me, the person I con into helping me do it while I supervise
