Philgor's 2005 Honda CR-V

Recommended Posts

As you've seen else where the aerodeck has moved on to a new home. I was hoping to keep the deck and run it side by side with the crv but I was unable to find anywhere to store it.

Anyway the new car.

It's a 2005 Honda CR-V sport 2.0 auto

84k FSH and was a locally supplied car when new.

It's a completely different drive to the deck. I've nicknamed it "the armchair" cos that is how comfy it is to drive.

Pictures.

Old and new...

IMG-20160316-WA0013.jpeg

It's even got a table

IMG-20160316-WA0015.jpeg

The powerplant

It's Honda's K20a4 producing 150bhp, it pulls rather well and is well suited to the gearbox. 75mph is 3000rpm

The gearbox is a 4spd auto with lock up torque converter. Matched with the Cruse control it makes for a lazy drive..

Mods!

The heater control unit had a black mark on it, I hoped to strip and paint it but I couldn't strip the electrics out of it. So I bought a 2nd hand unit

IMG-20160406-WA0006.jpeg

the stereo didn't have an aux port, I didn't want the hassle of changing the stereo and loosing the steering wheel controls, so I bought this.

Plugs in to the back of the stereo.

Tell you what these f**kers are well bolted together!

Stereo out with its cubby hole, the adapter plugged in and the wiring tidied up. Drilled a 10mm hole in the cubby hole to let the aux cable through.

Oh, thanks to @simpo for helping as he's just done the same thing to his accord

Nice one. Did this on our accord as well. It's great keeping the controls on the wheel.

Wow! Nice wee bit of kit that for the usb mate! Wonder if that would fit the standard head unit in the FN2, as it doesn't have an output for usb   That's why I fitted the double din pioneer. Is that kit model specific? Good work on the armchair so far mate! And that tables gonna be handy at meets/shows!

The usb kit, I'm gonna reserve judgment on it at the moment, as it has a whine that matches the engine rpm, don't get me wrong,it's not very loud, but it's annoying.

Aux cable. Ebay

@simpo has got one fitted to his accord.

Cheers. Hoping it becomes a suitable all-rounder like the deck was.

Oh, and in other news, bought 2 tyres as 2 are at 3 mm and one of them has a nail in it. 133quid delivered to the door.

Sticking with bridgestones as that's what is fitted.

I've just ordered a similar one for my FK3 Dave, so I'll let you know how it goes.

I have a secret love for the CRV, they look so good when looked after.

Thanks, it's just a shame that she's a cat C write off, which is a p**sed on a really nice car.

Well I've still got it. The insurance company still haven't got in touch with me yet, it's only been a month since it happened...

So, it's being used for transport for my sisters wedding tomorrow. So its been cleaned for tomorrow.

I also miss the amber fogs from the deck so while I was at japfest I bought some amber tint film.

IMG-20160506-WA0006.jpeg

It's only a quick job which was done with the fogs still in the bumper

IMG-20160506-WA0014.jpeg

It also gives the front a bit of colour as well.

Wedding car mode! The coolbox kept the champagne cooled, for the bride and groom.

this is going well, i had to chase the insurance company up...

the accident happened 4 april,

was told its a write off on the 22nd,

and i had to ring the insurance co up today, as they haven't rung me back...

anyway, they have offered me 3630. my response was, "and i keep the car"

"no, its our policy not to sell back"

to the point, I've not accepted their offer, I've found 3 cars of similar age/miles, all within 500 quid of mine (i've only had it 7wks, and its lost 2k in that) but none of them have parking sensors or towbars....

watch this space.

So they pocket the £2k and sell the car on as well? Nice little earner for them.

Well I had a free day, and my local off road center had a 4x4 running day. So I went.

DSC_0307.JPG

Only getting started.

IMG-20160529-WA0022.jpeg

This was proper stuck... That stuck it took 3 winches to get him out...

IMG-20160529-WA0024.jpeg

Steep with a mud bath at the bottom

IMG-20160529-WA0012.jpeg

Not as steep, with a 4/5 inch water splash at the bottom. Went through it at around 20mph... IMG-20160529-WA0008.jpeg

Getting muddy!

Right, the review of it off road,

It's quite good actually, a wasn't going out expecting to be a mud plugger, and I was hoping it wouldn't s**t it's self in the first bit of mud it sees.

The main issues are clearances. Front,  rear and underneath.

Front isn't so bad it's just the under tray on the bumper that catches, the rear is the towbar. But the big issue is the underside.

Everything is exposed, the exhaust, and fuel tank, the latter isn't so bad, as it's got a cage around it. But it's still hanging down exposed..

Apart from that, which if I do keep it, will know more late next week. I will be looking at a small lift. And steel under trays etc.

Want to aim something like this.IMG-20160529-WA0018.jpg

As long as your careful and don't expect a land-rover performance, it'll be OK.

Looks like a fun day man :)

Yeah it was a decent day out, just had a quick look underneath and it's not too bad, need to get a pressure washer/steamer under it. As I couldn't do a brilliant job of it as mud was flying everywhere at the wash down.
