  2. Yeah was a bit unexpected but got there in the end. The pipes were not the easiest to get off - after a bit of heat and loads of wd40 they did eventually shift but they're a little chewed up. I managed to get them on tight but if there are any leaks I fear I will have to remake them which won't be the easiest as there's quite a lot of tight bends. Potentially I could also use some kind of flexible PTFE pipe and AN fittings to make the routing a bit easier. Apparently on other hondas (eg/ek/etc) you can just swap the pinion shaft piece across rather than changing the entire rack as it seems like the racks are all the same it's just the teeth on the pinion that affects the ratio so I would probably try to get another MB2 rack (they're a lot cheaper!) and swap the pinion over from the ZS one rather than another attempt at removing the pipes.
  3. The grille looks cool, nice one. Shame that there was the hassle with the steering rack though, at least there was a fix for it, but definitely good to mention it. At least you had the old pipes intact too do the swap
  4. Last week
  5. Got the grille fitted to the car, that was the easy bit as the rest of the day turned into a bit of a nightmare! Could probably do with painting the metal behind black (its not quite as obvious in real life) but other than that im happy with it for a DIY job We then tried to swap in the MG ZS 180 steering rack that I bought... what a pig of a job Once we've eventually wrestled it into place after removing engine mount and subframe bolts, we found it didnt fit because these pipes are shaped differently, meaning it fouls on the engine mount bracket (the factory MB one so I can't even blame this on it being a k swap!) MB pipe: So I had to remove the rack from the car again and then remove the pipes from the MB rack and swap them to the ZS one. I've never seen that mentioned before but it's worth knowing if you are attempting this... Didn't get as much done as i'd like but onwards and upwards
  6. Made a custom EK9 style grille to go with the headlights Dismantled the grille, scuffed the chrome surround and rattle can painted it the same as the body (Titan Silver NH614M) Here's it drying, I didn't paint it on the dining table, i'd not be alive to tell the tale! Removed the inside of the grille with a dremel and then painstakingly cut some black mesh from ebay (as close to the EK9 mesh as I could see from photos) to size and sandwiched it in between the grille pieces Hopefully it fits on the car properly as I had to remove a lot of material... will find out tomorrow!

  8. Looking at these photos again it felt like a shame to put rusty parts back on the car As I'd already installed the ball joints and I didn't really fancy pressing out the wheel bearings I masked up the arms and knuckles as best I could and gave them a few coats of the same Hammerite paint i've used on the rear arms Pretty happy with the results all things considered. It's not a full strip down and restoration of course but it looks a lot better and should protect it for the next few years.
  9. Yeah, it suuuuuucks, my brother swapped his MB1 with a Z6 4 years ago, we bought the entire car with the engine for 500€ and sold the car for 600€, so a free Z6, I'm thinking of just buying a cheap K series car and swapping the deck with a K20 or K24, I would love to B swap it but it's too expensive. I'd rather just buy an MB6 or MC2 at that point.
  10. Oh yeah, I can definitely relate to that. Sadly, even D16 swaps have gotten pricier and pricier as time went on. At least where I'm located, ymmv. When I got my Civic a complete B18 swap kit was around 2000€. Now you can count yourself lucky if you even find one to begin with. And then it's never below 4k. Got a spare Z6 a few years ago to pull apart and build with forged internals. In those few years it literally appreciated by 100%. Just crazy. Hondas used to be those cheap, easy to get into modding platforms, but I guess no car is safe from ... 'collectors'. But welcome to the team! :)
  11. There might be a how to guide on the forum somewhere, but failing that, have a spy at the wiring diagrams in the workshop manual in the downloads section https://civic5.com/forum/files/
  12. Managed to spend a good day on the car for the first time in a while Fitted a Leoch XR600 lightweight AGM battery in a custom made battery holder from Alloy Race Fabrications. Drilled into the factory battery tray and used some rivnuts to bolt it down. I will probably end up relocating the battery eventually but the stock battery was completely knackered so it made sense to upgrade to a lightweight one. Also fitted a twist-style battery isolator to prevent the battery from running down when the car isnt being driven Took off the entire front suspension to start refreshing everything with new upgraded parts Fitted hardrace compliance bushes and lower control arms Installed roll centre correction lower ball joints
  13. Hi everyone. I bought the fog light kit with wiring for my MB3. I've already cut the bumper and installed the fog lights. All that's missing is the wiring. Does anyone know where the wiring goes?
  14. If I install a non-plastic intake manifold, will it affect the fuel mixture? Will I need to tune it?
  15. I don't think anyone has ever found an alternative head light unit - just don't think there has ever been a big enough market for anyone to make them. From this page, it looks like the Honda Part number for the left hand drive model is 33101-ST3-G11 https://www.parts-honda.uk/honda-cars/CIVIC-AERODECK/1999/VTI/ELECTRICAL-EQUIPMENTS-EXHAUST-HEATER/HEADLIGHT/17S1E01/B__0800/3/8455 There's a few on ebay at the mo with that part number, but all in Spain, Italy, Germany etc, so not much use for your trip this week. Maybe a headlight polishing kit is going to be your best bet for now.
  16. (apologies, can't find the reply option) Are there not alternative headlights that fit the OEM? For some reason I assumed that even if the OEM was out of stock there was always some equivalent to oem knocking about. Mostly they're cloudy as hell, cracked and damaged - i have swapped the bulbs out as a just in case but realistically they need a complete swap.
  17. Hi. To be honest, I'd be surprised if you could even find new right hand drive headlights in the UK, never mind LHD ones. It would have to be second hand I'm afraid, and the chance of getting left hand drive ones in the UK must be really small. What's the problem with your old ones? The lights in these cars are terrible at the best of times, the best bet is to get the best bulbs you can, folk on here in the past have either went for osram night breakers, or Philips extreme vision - I've used both but prefer the Philips ones. Other thing could be to clean up the plastic with one of the various products to get rid of the cloudy appearance.
  18. I have a European Aerodeck and the headlights are...basically dangerous to drive with (i drove her from Portugal to UK before Xmas and i'm due to drive back this Tuesday). I ordered ABAKUS 217-1127R-LD-E Headlight (and the corresponding opposite number) believing them to be the correct parts (as the site, autodoc i think it was, said they were the same as OEM 33151St3G11 /33101ST3G11). Spoiler alert. They're not. Much more tapered edges and thicker front to back - close enough that I thought it might slide in with the bumper off, but once it was off it was clear that it wouldn't fit. The Question/Help : Any idea where I can get left hand drive headlights in the UK that -actually- fit my model? As much as Autodoc website thinks they're the same as OEM it's clear they're not (my OEM's are CARELLO 76FR88FR 54532437 W5W3524). I'm in Hereford atm and don't mind driving over (different car lol!) on Monday if I can find the right supplier. Car is a 1998/1999 1.5 Aerodeck
  19. Ended up with a spare pair of headlights so thought I would have a go at making some EK9-style ones (like this) Melted the glue and opened the lights (10 mins in the oven at 120c) Removed the chrome surround and the orange lenses for the indicators Scuffed up the chrome with a scotchbrite pad to key it for paint Gave it a few coats of high temp graphite paint Went to put the lights back together and found the amber bulbs I bought don't fit. Apparently this is a common issue as they're "keyed" differently to the white ones, so I filed off one of the pins which actually seems to work... Quick sand and polish and here's the finished result! I will probably give it a more agressive sand and apply some clear coat at some point but happy for now, it looks 100x better than the stock ones imo
  20. Thanks mate, it definitely is cleaner now, I do wish something more exciting was in that bay haha, the D14 ain't cutting it.
  21. I've decided to take some time and clean up the engine bay, sad that the heat shield is rotten but oh well
  22. Yeah, I've always had a dream of building the perfect Aerodeck, I love the Titan Silver but someone keyed the entire side, the car needs a bit of bodywork and I've always loved Honda's pearl colours. I'll definitely keep everyone on the thread updated when the build progresses. Unfortunately student life is sipping money from me now entirely so I'm off of mods until I can afford them 😂. Also, for the never clean car, I am aware of that, I've daily driven my brother's MB1 that's white on white and it was a pain to keep clean...
  23. Yes, pirate's black is definitely the best colour - personally I wanted any colour but silver... but went and bought a silver one anyway. Part of me wishes I held out longer to find one in that colour but its very hard to find clean ones these days so I prioritised lack of rust over it. I saw an old thread on here with someone who painted theirs championship white, that would also be cool.. that or phoenix yellow!
  24. Nice one. Pirates black is lush, but be ready for feeling like your car is never clean 😂 even the day after a wash it's not clean anymore!
  25. Thanks mate! I like the silver but I really want to repaint the car Pirates Black when I get the money, she's a keeper so I couldn't care less about money. I've been hunting for an Aerodeck for the longest time and I've finally bought one.
  26. Yeah, I was lucky to get them with them on the car already, I was shocked that it even has them haha. The door sill garnishes are really cool too, I haven't seen them on any car yet.
  27. Arms look much better mate.. Should keep them right for years to come
