Will try doing that, but it does tend to be at speed (30mph plus) and not all time time...starts about 5 minutes after driving most of the time and doesn't seem to happen when its wet. Why i was thinking the CV joint personally. But I'll honestly say im not sure on it myself Hoping to have found out & solved it by the end of April though!
-
I was expecting it to be the CV, as the same sounds as when I had the boot rip last summer(when turning and such), Only its coming from the right this time...been happening since before Christmas and been meaning to sort it for a while. But i'm not 100% myself... My new wheel arrived so going to have a good look at the front to see what it is, hopefully nothing too bad but will check the drop link & track rod ends! Could be anything as I've no service history with the car so don't know what has & has't been replaced. knowing me it'll end up being something really stupid & easy to do.
-
I aim to hit nothing if I can help it...working night's is't great for that though! With me hitting the 100k mark im hoping to get as much done to it as I can. So getting new front brakes, all the belts(don't know if they've ever been done...), sort out the squeaking noise(think its a CV joint, but not 100%) as well to deal with! Then may go for the big one if all is well later in the year...the MG front end!
-
I'd had worse splattered on the front of the car.(never park your car at a friends farm! lol ) But remember what a pheasant did to the front of my dads old Volvo 840, don't want to think what a badger would have done to the civic! The rear alloy is damaged as well, but just looks like it has been massively kerbed, so going to see about maybe getting it sorted it the price is right!
-
It's been awhile since I last posted both here & on the forum, all was fine until... Last Thursday at on my way home from work at around 3:45am, came round a corner and was a badger in the middle of the road, tryed to swerve round it and ended up hitting a big rock/ditch causing this. Had to drive about a half mile down the road until I came to the junction for the main road for some light for changing the tyre. Thankfully I'd checked all the tyres 2 weeks prior so the spare was fine to use and the worst part was the fact it was raining. Sadly the tyre has a good amount of tread on it, I'm getting a replacement alloy as when asking friends & workmates, all recommended that considering the price of the alloy and how much it'd be to repair it was the best option. For the time being I'm just using 3 of the original alloys and the spare wheel. So although I'm £150 lighter now, I don't want to think how much it'd have been if i'd just hit the badger. The good news is everything else is fine on the car! Next thing to do is a new timing belt, which I'll get when I hit the 100k mark! (1894 miles away!)

I'm now getting images of a full sized roof rack like you see on some Defenders where it go's over the bonnet & supported by legs on the front wings. The other options are: Some lights in the fog light apertures (as suggested by NIKH25), putting some in front of the grill, behind the grill(is that legal or not though?) or get a full rally style light pod made up for them...which I'd love but would't look right. Or invest in some brighter bulbs.I'll sort out the small problems first before I invest in doing something like this though.
-
Everyone has the same initial feeling when I say it, but they would't be for show, I work nights (5pm till 3:30am) and drive home on mostly back roads so the extra light would be very helpful! Also if up in the Cairngorm's & such when its dark! That said, I could see if Halfords do any really bright headlight bulbs, I can get some discounts thanks to a trade card! (£13 for a set of normal ones, down to £2.88 the other week!). Keeping my options open for the lights however.

- Get a new exhaust without a middle box. The dam thing scrapes on speed humps & such as it is. - Maybe raise the car. Just a maybe though. - Have her run a bit more smoothly. I'll get round to this somehow. - Set of spotlights on the roof (between the roof rails). - New front brakes. Just little things I know, but i'll be happy with them. The big one : MG ZS/Rover 45 Front end swap. Yes, I'm still tempted by this. But would she still be classed as a civic if she doesn't look like one?

First car I actually owned & drove was a 2001 Renault Clio, loved the thing for it's handling & quickness...all 1.2 8v of pure power. Before that, the order of stuff I drove was my dads cars: AW11 MR2, followed by an Impreza(2000 2.0 sport), then a Mk1 mondeo, followed by a mk2(both 2.0's)....then a Rover 75. Loved the 75, was actually after one to replace the Clio with before I fell for the Aerodeck.

That's part of the problem(hear it on the longer bumps), but the down pipe is the worst of the two...doesn't help it sits a good few centimeter or two lower than anything else. I'll get round to sorting it in the new year though, . With that said, I'm going to get all the belts done soon I've decided, as car only has service history for the first 3 years of it's life(31k miles), just to play safe as dont think they've ever been done. As well as touch up a few other things at the same time. Luckily I don't have to worry about not having the car on the road asap, thanks to the Clio I bought to cover the down time for getting the Civic MoT ready has just been taxed for another 6 months, so hopefully everything go's smoothly.
-
I've gotten used to the exhaust always having a problem to the point I'm not going to bother to fix it unless i get a hole in it again or i scrape the thing off. Going to see if i can get a custom system made some time in the next year, one where the down pipe doesn't sit so low(sits lower than the sum, and only thing that's scraping on speedbumps)
-
Just a small update... Finally got round to putting them on. Only cover the headlights, decided to leave the indicators untouched as was't sure how it'd effect them. Also after fixing my exhaust for the MOT last month...i went and managed to scrape it off a huge speed bump, and now I'm back to where i was sound wise for the exhaust, as well as setting the engine management light off again. Think it's time to raise it before the winter comes...

I dunno, I'd be looking at a Dacia Sandero in 'Access' spec more than that Civic...

Calster17 replied to fyfie5's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
I've always wanted yellow lights since I saw a Ferrari 360GT years ago. I'll order some tint in the week! I'll be there on the 3rd, should be easy to see me...I'll nodoubt have a 'JapSpeed' hoodie on or a T-shirt from Touge Automotive, or a Welch Motorsport onesie on for the optional fancy dress. lol- 1,645 replies

Finally got the the end of your thread! Like it more than when i first saw it back in July! Was happy to see I was't the only person who had a problem with rear seats when changing them with the different sized clips! After i saw your car with the headlight tint I knew they'd look good on a M style civic, and seeing yours with the lights on back in September makes me want to do it even more, but would feel I'm copying you on that. (also I feel i'd make a dog's dinner of doing it myself lol) Can't wait to see what you do with it next!- 1,645 replies

My Civic MA The Story Continues, She’s Back :)
Calster17 replied to skitzma8's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
I'm with Admiral with a multi-car policy, Was the cheapest & best I got offered last October when I first got Insured(was 20). Was £950 for my Clio (2001 1.2 8v) and my Dads Saab 95 (2.0 Turbo, 1997/8), with my the policy holder. Me & my parents insured on my car and just my Parents on my dads. Only had to pay £300 or so extra when I changed to the Civic a few months after! Best thing is that price was without any black box's or time restraints, so all good! But best to just look around and not just use comparison sites...cheapest i was offered with them was £1200 for the Clio, and that was with a black box(could have got cheaper if I had time restrictions...but working night shift means that'd be no use). Hope that's of help & diddent sound like an advert! Also hope you find it cheaper! And can't wait to see what you do with the car next. -
Did have a look at Thule, do like some of the box's but not the prices sadly. lol Will be having a look around to see what sizes are what first person, and make a choice soon.

My Civic MA The Story Continues, She’s Back :)
Calster17 replied to skitzma8's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
Love the car! Alloys suit it well, and the grill is different from all the MA's I've seen! Cant get over the insurance though, I got my MC1(1.6 V-Tec) when i was 20 and only been driving for 5 months and got quoted £1250 fully comp! (21 now, renewed 2 weeks ago and it's down to £950 or so) -
Thankfully 'wolfs' passed the MoT now, and not quick enough! Been driving an old Clio for past two weeks, and jumping back into the civic for the drive to the garage was unreal!(in a good way!). Sadly I'm in Edinburgh this week so can't get to see her again till then. When I got the new cat on, had a good look under the car and seen how well it looked...until i got to the down pipe I fitted a few months back, which now has ridges grooved into it thanks to scraping on bumps and beaching it on a jet wash bay. The sump also has a huge dent in it which is't from scraping(no scratches, also not low enough), so going to see about getting a custom down pipe made that doesn't sit so low down if possible. Or just raise the car, which I'm tempted to do for winter. Now I know that it's legal again, ordered some new parts. Yellow head light tint & some stickers, as well as some T-cut!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good roof box & bars for an MC1. It's something I've been thinking about for a while as despite the space of having an estate, I sometimes need more room for carrying things. I'd prefer a sleek, aero looking box rather than one that looks like..well a box.(if that makes sense), also it's not a must but would like it to be black to suit the rest of the car, but it's okay if it's not as I'll easily just paint it. Also a set of bars to go with it, preferably not one that sits high above the roof. Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area, was't sure what it'd be classed as!
-
Sorry for the kinda vage title, but not sure what else to have said. I knew that the front near side ball joint would need replaced soon, and sadly the MoT has forced me to get it replaced. Not a big job I though and i'd do it today. Having ordered and picked up the joint, i got home and looked at the Haynes manual....only to see it says that the upper ball joint can't be removed and the whole upper control arm. Is that the case? or can you replace just the ball joint? Thanks in advance for answers.

Thanks for the link! Typically(and sadly) I saw it after I got it sorted at a garage. Least I know for if I comes on again! But the good news is that the SRS light is now finally out, first time ever since I've owned her! Ordered the rest of the parts today and managed to get Monday & Tuesday off as holidays, so if all go's to plan then should be fighting fit by Tuesday. If not, then I have to buy a cheap car and use that until I get 'Wolf' her MoT. (crazy, I'm cheaper buying another car and insuring it than I am getting added to my mums insurance!) Once I know she's fine for another year, can plan the next lot of changes!
-
With the MG/R front end, really going to think on it. But in the end I can see I'll give up as too much effort or something.... I'm having to put plans on hold for now though, as the MoT came about sooner than i expected(got my insurance & MoT dates mixed up), so never had time to sort things. Everything thats come up I expected, and can easy sort myself, other than the dreaded SRS warning light(forgot all about it, as been on since I got the car) is the problem...thankfully getting it looked at tomorrow and hoping its an easy fix.....so fingers crossed!

I found out about swaps people had done when I was researching my car(I did the research after i'd bought the car on impulse at auction...), would love to do it as I like my rovers. I'm guessing it would't be too much work, wings, bumper, lights, bonnet, etc, but really cant make my mind up, as I like the M civic's style as well! ('m bad for making choices) I though it was photoshops at first but apparently not., pre-facelift 45 & facelifted. Pictures of a Gold one with the MG grill/bumper are kicking about as well.
