Water leaks into spare tyre well & rear seats assistance please

Hi all

I just picked up anther aerodeck & it has a mirriad of little issues, I'm sure I'll be asking about a few other things.

But it has a substantial problem with water getting into the rear tyre well as well as the under the rear seats.

I've made a start by checking & clearing the sunroof drains, boy are the rear ones a pain to get at, the plastics on the end spout that exits behind the rear wheels have hardened a bit, so I had to get in behind the rear boot compartments either side behind the carpeting & make sure they were clear that way, 1 done one to go.

I don't think the water is coming in through the rear window seals but I am concerned about it coming in round the tail lights, I have tried youtube / google & searches on the forum but am coming up empty, from what I can tell the aerodeck/Mc's & MB's do not have a foam seal on the back of the light clusters like many of the other civics do, so my question is - how in the heck do I create some kind of seal behind the rear light lenze units (pictured) to create a seal & prevent water getting in through them? I'm sure many have had the same issue as it's a very common problem with the decks.

Luckily no wet carpets in the other usual places in the front footwells or anywhere else that I can tell.

I'm also like many from my reading on here struggling to get the tail lights out, I know it's just the 2 screws on the inside & then wiggle, but I am scared as hell of breaking something as they don't seem to want to come out freely, the image included are from a previous car which I have as spares.

I don't really want to go putting silicone on them as it will make bulb replacing impossible in future.

Yeah, I know that from experience unfortunately (along with ploughing through salty slushy snow years ago). 

There's not much getting in, but still need to try and track it down. Think it's going to need someone in the boot with all the trim out and a hosepipe job.

That's how I ended up tracking the leaks down myself Simon, stripped out the headliner & rear interior & had the hose pipe on to pin down where it was getting in, turned in to a huge lot of work, but well worth it in the long run, also did the headliner while it was out as like most it was not in great condition & on removing it, it just started peeling away, new skill learned though, but it's not a simple job with all the holes & countours on the deck headliner, I'm sure a regular MB withut a sunroof would be pretty easy in comparrison.

Anyone ever solves this scooby doo mystery let me know 4 Aerodecks in every single ones always had a portable swimming pool in the boot ha ha i just live with it and push the bungs out as long as it doesnt sit and drains out its fine.

 

had to weld the boot floor on the current one i have in 2023 but sealed it and hasn't started to rust up yet.

Lol must be a Civic thing! My mk8 TypeS does it every once in a blue moon too! DD has only ever had a tiny bit of water in the spare wheel well, again just once in a blue moon.oh, and she had the standard front A pillar corner of the windscreen leak😅 That ones almost a right of passage with a Civic M! Got that sorted by redoing the seams with seam sealer.

Yeah I had the windscreen one on the VTIS sealed back up last summer, most of the time it's undercover or under the carport at the side of the house.

It's the passenger footwell on the stepwagon.. Think that's the windscreen as the gutter behind the scuttle panel wasn't just dry and clear, it was dusty 😂

Same as CRV then had 2 of the sometimes its rot under the windscreen ive found that out, the step wagons very similar in design to the CRV.

 

i would have one as a day van owned a Bongo 2.5TD and it was a rot box but i do miss the handy platform of a 4WD van, i dont miss the repair prices though LOL.

Yeah, liked the look of the Bongos, but they seem to rot like nothing I've ever seen before!
