  1. Whoops, hope these work haha. Got round to fitting most the parts - also fitted a k-tuned rep short shifter with a stainless weighted knob which makes the car feel so nice to drive - will get a photo soon. Me and my wife have also had a baby so time and money to work on the car are in short supply!! Next steps are to get the interior sorted - really want to fix the headliner, and seeing Kaleverada's thread has me inspired for the pillars! Also really want to strip out the back, tint the windows & fit bucket seats...

  2. Looks sweet that man! Some of the vibration you mentioned could be from the stiffer or solid bushes you’ve fitted, quite a lot of gearbox vibration gets transmitted through those. Either that or whilst in gear the shifter actually sits on top of the the exhaust, I know when I had mine adjusted to as low as it went, so the shortest possible throw, it’s would knock into the exhaust. Have a completely different setup now but the Hybrid Racing one does looks good man! Well done

  3. Took the time to do some more work on the ole Fastback today and installed a nice upgrade for the interior. The object in question being a very nice short shifter from Hybrid Racing and a set of stiffer shift-linkage bushings from Hardrace. The installation was pretty straightforward - take off the interior trim that surrounds the shifter, undo a few bolts and take out the b*tch pin, take off the old shifter and replace all the original parts with the shiny new ones. Even the rubber gasket went on there relatively easily, with a bit of lubrication of course ;) And the finished product looks like this: Had to take out the small plastic ring out from the top of the shifter boot to be able to install the 'swan neck' part of the shifter on top of it, but I really like the way it looks (and feels)! The biggest hold-up was the size of the hole where the shifter bolts onto the shift linkage. Had to take off some material or otherwise I'd have to choose between either only having gears 1 through 4 or gear 3 through reverse. Nothing bad though. File down, reinstall, take off again and file down a bit more and boom - bob's your uncle. There are still some vibrations to chase down, but nothing a bit of lubricant/machine oil can't fix. All in all, I'd say it was a huge upgrade for the driving experience - it's super notchy and rowing through the gears almost feels like racking a gun at times. I'd give the shifter itself a solid 9/10, feels well built, installation is straightforward and well documented by Hybrid Racing, they give you all the hardware you need and you don't have to damage or reuse old components (except filing down that linkage hole, but that's a M-chassis issue only).

  4. Bay shot because why not. Changed whale d**k out to actual carbon fibre one, and changed rocker cover to a fake Mugen one. Looking a lot tidier under there now!

  7. Nice, wish more places up here too that approach. Might see if there's any interest in pubs near here for a classic/retro/modded car meet! Know a place where it would be ideal!

  8. Think they do it free as its their venue, with a pub / wedding venue, and bit of publcity for their restoration business / car sales - on a Thursday night so probably doesn't cost them much apart from time, and brings them a bit of business in when it might be quiet. Win win.

  10. lol yeah, deffo keeping the eyes on the road! Finally got it fitted properly and got the trim piece made for it and fitted so looks pukka now. Will post another photo/pic of it when I get a chance. Went for a day our with my mate who does volunteering at a steam locomotive museum in Bo'ness (he's big into his trains). He's been learning all the skills for restoring them so had me round the various workshops showing me how the trains work/how they restore them. Was fascinating stuff, everything is on such a huge scale copared to when I used to restore old Ford Cortinas. Highlights were we both got tasked with giving one of the engines aa clean.......Thomas the tank engine!! lmao But biggest highlight was he arranged with one of the drivers to give us a we run through the station, up front in the cabin! Was totally amazing experience, and a box most definitley ticked! We went up in DD (who's now rocking her posh wheels again!) and been the longest trip by far she's had in years. Drove spot on all the way! Got a nice wee video of her beside the tracks as the train came past driven by Taylor who gave us a toot toot as they went by lol. I'll upload the photos later but here's the video for now. https://youtu.be/WGjsVH0bU5k

  13. Fitted a Bride Low Max last week, certainly lives upto its name! Feels like driving a go kart now! Was originally going to use the MB rails and modify them to fit, but the effort really wasn’t worth it for me. A lot of cutting, butchering and welding was needed so instead I bought M2 EK rails which almost lined up. The front two tabs line up fine, but the rear right tab is too far back so would need grinding off and welding just a little further forward, and the rear left tab grinding off and welding a little further forward also. However, I didn’t do this as I didn’t have access to a welder. So for the right side I used a long bolt that can reach through to gap and secure it tightly. Had to file a small amount of metal on the top side of the bolt hole on the rails to allow the the angle of the bolt. And the left side I drilled the rail tab out a little further infront of the original hole on the tab. Everything fits snugly and is all tight and secure with no movement, ordered a harness too so will attach that when it comes. Just have the other side to do now…..ahaha. But in hindsight I think I’ll be grinding the tabs off and welding them instead of messing about so much!

  14. Thanks man appreciate that! The fabric I used has self adhesive on the back of it that’s very strong so literally just stretched it and stuck it down, can’t see it coming off anytime soon either. If you typed in something like alcantara wrap on AliExpress I’m sure you’ll find it, though I’m sure it was listed as velvet ahaha And I’m not sure if I’ve got a photo from the front, though I have just fitted a low max and got a couple photos so I’ll see if any of them are good

  24. Been out and about in DD today, wanted to see how the DAb performed as we can't get a radio signal (not even FM!)in our wee village as we're down in a valley. Got into town and DAB working nice! Sation logos and info all displaying nice. God I've missed driving this car!!!! Dave is in a happy place (as is DD!)

  25. Decided to get the ball rolling on my ideas for a touch screen in DD as it's something I'd tried previously but abandoned. This time the plan was to get a single din with a motorized flip out touch screen, but which one?? Had looked at Pioneer as always been a fan of their stuff (that's the current head unit she hs, although not a touch screen or anything), but remembered that I'd paid a fortune for the double din pioneer I had in the TypeS/TypeR and wasn't that impressed with it. Screen contrast etc was crap in sunlight, and text on screen was really small. Plus it wasn't android OS, and it cost a fortune. Looked at single DIN Pioneers with the flip out screen but all had the same downsides as above. Looked at the cheap Chinese single din androids but very mixed reviews on them. So did research and knew that whatever one I got it needed to have a min of 4gb ram and a decent processor, otherwise I'd be pee'd off in now time with it being slow/pain in the ass to use! Bit the bullet and went for a more expensive Ersin Android single din unit with a 7inch motorized screen. Was dubious about whether it would be any good, but it has the min 4gb ram and an 8 core processor, along with 64gb ROM. Got it all wired in and have to say, it's freaking awesome! Screen touch is really nice, and it works fast as hell, really responsive. Spec is good too.... RDS FM radio (so displays the station name etc), DAB+ Radio (I had a plug in DAB+ adapter already so was able to use it with this one), Android Auto and Apple Car play (both wireless, unlike the cheapy units where it's wired), 3 USB ports, built in navigaton (can also use Google maps, Waze etc), and tons of other stuff like Youtube etc. Also has built in wifi and a sim card slot on the rear should I want to add a wifi network to the car (but I use my smartphone as a hotspot as I have unlimited data on that). Still finding my way around it but will upload the quick video I took while car was still in bits to fit it lol. Only issue I've had is actually fixing it into the dash. Honda really made things awkward with our Civics! Can't fit a double din, can't fit a single din with flip out screen either without some fettling. Because our radio slot is recessed, the radio needs to sit further out so the screen clears the stupid trim around the centre console. Going to fit a spacer to the roiginal slot in the dash, then refit the cage so it clips into that new spacer. Got a trim piece coming that can be trimmed to size so that will go around the radio so it looks flush with the front of the console (kinda!). Oh, and you can infinitley adjust the colour of the buttons, so have got an exact match for the rest of DD's dash lights! Looks like it could have come from the factory like that as the chrome on the radio also ties in with the chrome I fitted to the centre console! Anyhoo, enough waffling, here's the videos: 20240416_125202.mp4

  33. Little bit of work on the old girl yesterday. Had a new washer motor as the screen wash wasn't working, and mot is due. Also had a new arch liner to stick in while I was on as the old one had suffered from arch rub. Stuck the new motor in, and nothing came out. Could hear the motor going well, but no squirts. Started tracking back from the nozzles to see what was going on, and turns out that a little non return valve was sticking. Tried to fettle it but it was still sticking, so ended up taking the gubbins out of the valve so it was basically a pipe joint... Works better than they ever have now... Finally see what everyone sees in the jazz nozzles. Also finally got around to sorting out the surface rust around the bonnet hinges. Cleaned it all up and chipped off a bit more old seam sealer. Used some kurust rust converter, then painted it with black hammerite. Popped the scuttle panel back on with a bead of silicone along the top as the foam strip that's supposed to stop water running down behind it off the windscreen had almost totally disintegrated. There's a bit of surface rust appearing on the top of the panel where the blower motor is, but couldn't really get to that yesterday. There's hardly anything mind, but it's one to keep an eye on. Was nice to see all of the underseal looking nice and fresh underneath and behind the arch liner. Didn't take any pics of anything as I was cracking on and it kept raining on me.

  35. So, did a good bit of work to the car again. This time I installed a proper mounting bracket for the cold air intake as the old hacked-off and jury-rigged intake mani bracket looked pretty bad, to be honest. Also installed a pair of much more serious sounding horns than that little beeper that the car came with. They sound a lot better than the OEM one did, and are quite a bit louder on top! After that I installed a set of new bumper screws - the original ones were completely rusted and cruddy, and one almost stripped completely when I took that bumper off! Then I got to work on my seat-project. As I said in my last post - the original seats make me sit a bit too high for my own tastes and I have been looking for either some high-quality (road legal) seat rails for aftermarket seats from either Recaro or some other brand, or a completely different way to sit lower than the original seats would allow me to. As it turns out ... you can fit CRX seats on the original M-chassis rails if you drill out the rivets and fabricate an adaptor plate out of steel (10mm thick in my case). I got lucky a few years ago and managed to take a pair of these seats off a guy for jsut 250 bucks total. :) Here's how the first prototype looks like: This was only to take a look and see if my idea could even work to begin with, and if it would make me sit lower than the OEM seats would, but as luck would have it ... this combo works flawlessly and I sit about 5 to 8 centimetres lower than I do in the stock seats! :D They are also quite a bit more comfortable, if a bit worn-out. Real plushy. :) But as things stand right now I'll just make a few more refinements to my adaptor brackets, give those seats a thorough cleaning session and maybe add some more side bolstering to give them a bit more of a sporty feel and I've got myself a nice pair of OEM Honda seats that do exactly what I want from them! :D

  36. So, a few boxes full of fun-parts arrived yesterday... :D I'm still trying to find a good machining shop to get a port and polish, a valve-job and to get the rotating assembly properly balanced, but things are slowly progressing on the new engine build. It's going to be unconventional for sure, but I'm going to be fully building an N/A D16Z6 that I've bought for this project. Forged conrods, high compression pistons, stage 2 camshaft, lightened flywheel, the whole nine yards. I've also done some test-fitting already and it seems that the 'LITE'-series of conrods from Skunk2 doesn't require any notching of the block to fit, which is a huge win in my book! Though I had to cobble together a pseudo-piston from a few pieces of plastic and foam for the test-fit, as the pistons I bought are .5mm oversize and I haven't had the block bored out yet. Worked super well, though! But I'm super stoked to see what kind of power gain this is going to get me, and especially how high I'll be able to rev it. Components-wise it should be fine up to 9.000 or even 10.000 RPM, but we all know that it probably won't make much or even any power up that high in the rev-range. Based on my research into other all-motor D16 builds and B20 builds I'm confident that it should definitely hold up to 9.000 relatively comfortably, as many people in the states rev their stock-rod B20s that high without much issue, running only ARP rod-bolts and nothing else. (B20 engines have the same stroke as D16s, btw) It's going to be a while until things get moving properly, but the first step has been taken and all that's holding me back right now is finding that machining shop! :D Some folks are probably going to ask why I would take a D16 that far instead of just going B-Series, and I'm going to answer that by telling you that a B-Series swap costs around four to five thousand Euros where I live. If you can even find one... That's a lot of money for just a stock engine and trans. And it's also why I'm going to spend about the same amount of money to build a D-Series that is going to make roughly the same power, as well. I simply want a built engine. Simple as that. I've always wanted to build a proper all-motor engine and I finally got the chance, both time- and money-wise to do so, and I'm going to do it! :D I've also been doing some research into getting a road-legal bucket seat, or any kind of seat to be honest, because the stock seats are just too high for my tastes and I constantly have to lean forward when I'm stopped at a red light. Someone else on this forum already made an extremely helpful post about the seat rails from Planted Technology, which helped me immensely, but I've also found a local engineering company here in Germany which is able to fabricate everything in-house and even get it entered into the car's paperwork the legitimate way. That comes with its price though... Well, anyways. That's the current state of my project. See ya 'round!
