vtec2011
Good stuff mate. That thing s quick to sixty. 8 ish seconds counting in my head. AwesomeHaha thanks mate! Since I fitted the D16 gearbox the engine feels like its revving more freely, no more struggling going up hills You can almost hear the vtec crossover around 4500rpm which is surprising for a SOHC
DAVEMB2
Looking good You have not changed the engine have you is it still the 1.5 evtec
vtec2011
Looking good You have not changed the engine have you is it still the 1.5 evtecYep its still a original 1.5 vtec-e.. Its got a K&N 57i cone air filter with a long cold air induction pipe. The engine done 109,000 miles and do an oil change every 6000 miles. I want to get it to 150,000 miles or more and then maybe do an engine rebuild
DAVEMB2
That sounds good , no it was just that you said you can almost hear vtec cross at 4500 rpm , we do not have a true vtec . The vtec as it is comes in at 2500rpm give or take a few rpm . Unless you are in 5th gear then it kicks in at 3000 rpm
vtec2011
Ye you can barely feel vtec on SOHC and doesn't sound nowhere near as the true vtec on DOHC.. But it does have that nice little subtle note when booting it haha. Sounds like the valves open up more somewhere around 4000rpm on mine
DAVEMB2
Mm that could be the d16 gear box , the mb3 1.5 run lean the only open half way on the values and then when the hit there type of vtec they open full as a normal engine would run . They are not even realy a sohc vtec as you would get on the 1.6 sohc vtec that has a extra lobe on the cam for vtec . That said not dissing the 1.5 coz I have one we just get better fuel that may change with yours coz of the gearbox but we can run lean now that's cool . Like mine even passed mot with no cat on
vtec2011
That's what I really love about my M.. I can get a good 45mpg on the run (I use to get more mpg with the original gearbox) And seriously! Your car passed the MOT without the cat?! Because I got a de-cat pipe but not sure whether I should fit it because of MOT. You got me thinking now..
DAVEMB2
Well yes and no mine passed.it passed the emissions but if you do not have a good mot man it will not coz your car came with a cat so must have one on even if the emissions without one are fine
vtec2011
Ye that's true.. But then the cat isn't really visible as its tucked away in front of the engine, so I might get away with it
