Wow that came up nice with a glimpse of Pirates Black :)

Do I see an MA Civic in the reflection?

Thanks :)

Where can you see another car in the reflection? lol You've some eyesight or more than likely I've terrible eyesight and just can't see it!

My garage is behind the Civic in the pic so if you see a car it'll be my S3 :)

I can see it, it's the S3, just to the right of the reverse light.

It's a nice shine you've got there, it's always a trade off with polish though, the SRP is a great repair polish and even does a good job by hand but doesn't give the best shine.

I'd go for 195/50 tyres if I was you.

I used to love SRP with a couple of layers of Extra Gloss on top, before I bought my DA. Now I use Meguiars 105 to cut and 205 to polish with a good wax on top but it takes forever to get the car done and I only had a couple of hours to work on the car. I doubt I'll use that Ultra Deep Shine stuff again, unless it's just to fire over the missus' car to use the bottle up lol

There are currently 195/50s on the back of my car and 195/55s on the front. I want to replace them all as it's doing my OCD in. Do the 50s not overspeed the speedo?

Haha maybe it's just my phone.

Yeah the S3 has a lovely chrome surround on the grill too. Must have been a popular period feature on a few decent cars back in those days :P

3% inaccuracy apparently, doesn't worry me and I know plenty of others have 50's on too.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was away on my stag for a few days last week so left the car down to get the underneath and arches undersealed.  I'd left it with a local Jap specialist who had done some work on the Civic before.  I'm very happy with the results and hopefully that'll keep her undercarriage nice for a good while :)

I also sold my 5Zigen back box so it's away now to annoy someone elses neighbours :P

When I had my Jetex fitted, we'd discovered that the insides of the centre baffle was coming apart as well as being very restrictive, so I bought some 2.5" exhaust pipe from a local exhaust company.  Pic below are of the offending baffle in the foreground.

I brought the car down to a friends last night and we removed the full system for a look.  I really don't know if these are standard or aftermarket, but guessing aftermarket.  Anyways, there are three baffles along the full system and all have a reduction inside the system down to just 31mm!  That's 1.2" piping hidden inside a 2.5" pipe.  That's bound to be restricting flow, so we decided last night that they all had to go.

In the pic the inner most circle where you can see the lighter coloured baffle is just 31mm.

More underseal pic whoring :P

Whilst my friend was welding away I stole some of his eBay air feed piping for my ATR airbox.  I was going to use something from the Audi parts bin, but this was free and easier to fit haha  It's actually rigid enough to maintain a shape, but the wire inside can still  be shaped to fit perfectly inside the air box :)

Here was the finished franken-pipe.

and the differences between the boxes removed; from 1.2" to 2.5" :)

I knew when we were doing this that removing the baffles would def increase the noise, and at idle there is a more noticable grumble, but it's still quiet enough to not annoy neighbours. Happy days :)

We took it down the road and the difference is night and day, especially up top in the rev ranges.  Figures-wise though, I've a marker point on a straight quiet piece of road that I use for testing and the car is now 5 or 6 mph up.  From an everyday point of view though it def feels more usable and responsive.

I'd be very keen to get it on the rolling road in the next month or two to see the changes the air box and exhaust have made.

The only downside is that over 3,000rpm there is a horrible Honda rasp ruining my happiness.  We are hoping its just vibration and a replacement gasket down near the decat and tweaking some of the bolts will sort it out, otherwise I'll need to start looking for a 2.5" baffle of some sort.  Grrr :(

I also ordered 4 Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres in the standard 195/55/R15 size which should be here for next weekend.

Unfortunately I've also found a couple more issues with the car :(

The two front shocks will need replacing over the coming months, but more urgently I've discovered a bit of weeping from the fuel lines so I'm also going to replace all the fuel and brake lines asap.
