Dexter
Okay so it's been 5 years since my last timing belt change, but i've only done 40,000km / 25,000 miles since. The question is should i change it now? Haynes recommends every 5 years. The car sees some track days each year if that makes a difference. Krzys
I would do it because even though you haven't done the mileage rubber deteriorates, just for piece of mind more than anything
DAVEMB2
X2 5 years or around 60k - 65k witch ever you get to first
NIKH25
x3, I did mine because it was 5 years since the last one even though it had only done around 30k miles and wasn't it bad condition. If it does let go it will be messy.
Dexter
If it does let go it will be messy. Yeah, i guess better to be safe than sorry! So what else should i do on the same go, water pump i reckon, what about tensioner? Anything else? Last time i got it done at a shop as soon as i bought her, so i don't even remember what parts they replaced in the end, except that it was very thorough and cost €€€. NIKH25
Water pump is non service item and shouldn't need to be replaced unless it fails. Lots of people still do it at the same time though.
Aerodeckcivic
Need to do mine now that it skipped a tooth or two chasing an mr2 last night. are they easy to do??.
simpo
I would do the lot. The last thing you want to do is put it all back together and water pump leaks a week later
Grant
It's the bearing in the water pump that usually let's go. And that's down to new belts being out on and tightening it up, then as the belt wears it slackens off. And then it obv starts again when you replace the belt. Think they're only about £50 so worth doing. Tensioner is a must IMO.
