  1. Nothing happening on the car today but i want to expand this thread and as a couple of you have shown interest i thought i'd show off the workshop. It's my mum's house now but she's moved with my stepdad who's in the RAF so she'd rather stay close to him and rent the property to me. So lucky for me i have this space. As i said before i've only just started using this space for cars, just wish i'd have been using it sooner. I know some people don't even have the luxury of a driveway to work on so for this space to go to waste is sacrilege, so great to be using it for it's intended purpose. Excuse the mess, needs a good sort out still. It has enough space to have a car with all 4 doors open if it didnt have the clutter either side, in hindsight my dad would have built it taller and had a lift instead but they were expensive back then. start of my shadowboard and workbench, solid and has a nice 6 inch vice, just picked up a 4 inch vice also. hawk air compressor, think i paid about 130 for it delivered, good enough for now. Buying a taller upright workshop compressor thats a bit more upto the job of my dad, just needs a motor. Entertainment center, good in the summer with turntables set up at bbqs Beam runs the length of the pit to the bench with beam trolly and hoist, pretty handy. And the main feature, the pit. I'd say it's about 5.5ft deep, not sure on exact length but easily big enough for a large car. It has underground cable going to the fuse board and recesses for lights but as of yet it's never had any fitted. more soon
  2. good idea, i have a few carpet tiles so i'm thinking one in each footwell under the carpet, and another under the spare wheel.
  3. you can only do so much with sound deadening, it's an improvement and definately worth it if you have your music loud
  4. Yeah very lucky, my old man says its the hardest thing he had to go through when he got a divorce was losing that garage haha, he doesnt shut up about it. Its all good he has a house in the country now where he'll be building his dream workshop, lathe, mill, car lift etc. so i dont feel bad. wish he'd hurry up so i can store my junk there.
  5. it makes a difference to me, bit of an audiophile/bass head so eliminating vibrations is worth it for me. (Thats why all my heatsheilding went in the bin with my exhaust) Got quite a nice krk system in the garage that can proper shake a house party, even done a weeding with it. But now when i turn on the ignition my bluetooth head unit takes over the music playing from my phone from my garage system to my car almost seamlessly, put a smile on my face when i realised that haha.
  6. i might try a bit of this in the boot http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLASHING-TAPE-FLASH-BAND-ROOFING-REPAIR-SELF-ADHESIVE-TAPE-ROLL-LEAD-BITUMEN-10m-/140938448860?var=&hash=item20d0960fdc:m:mTPkMOF4CgBPVqRklfOOofg it's pretty much the same stuff, just want to try some on a flat area to see how well it holds/thickness.
  7. i just got it off ebay as ''sound deadening" it's just no name stuff, probably roof flashing. I used a heat gun and a edging roller to apply it, it sticks good when you activate it with heat.
  8. haha yeah i been listening to it for weeks, sounded alright sometimes lol. had a quick test drive, love it, shifts loads better now, just need to change the gearbox oil and do the clutch. Sounds good too, not too loud, but meaty. Wouldn't want to do a set of front door speakers again for a while, havn't got the patience for fiddly jobs, but i stuck at it and did my best, shredded hands in the process. Off cuts of sound deadening and shrinkwrap everywhere when i was done.
  9. well it's been a busy week, cleared enough space to get a car over the pit in my garage. first time a cars been over that pit in i'd say over 20 years, since my dad moved out (he built it himself). I've only been driving 2 years so not had a need to get a car in there, just dirtbikes. So far i've wired the sub and amp in the boot, with 4inch kenwood coaxials in the rear and Alpine components to the front doors, with sound dampening (took me about 3 - 4 hours each side, way longer than i expected) not gonna lie lads, i shed a few tears of actual joy when i tested it, cup of tea in hand in my nice warm garage. Just so excited for what i'm hoping for this workspace to be, had my mate bring his golf round to fit his new wheels and another friend has just got an old sr20 engined early primera that we will be modifying, also another mate wants to buy the c class merc i have sitting here when he passes his test. Haha we're all late 20's and only just getting into cars so it's pretty exciting... anyway... Had a bit of a clean up in the engine bay, fitted new battery. Cleared out cabin air space and changed filter, new heater resistor. Blue glovebox light while i was in there Exhaust was blowing a little bit So i fitted a used stainless 2.5 cat back. Will fit the manifold and decat later. Also fitted new shift linkage bushings and a short shifter while the exhaust was off. Plenty of jobs underneath the car to be done by the looks of things, mot in may. Back of my mind i think the wildsheild leak may have already done the worst but i'm not going to worry about that for a bit, just ignore it and it will go away Plenty to come

    topmounts

i already have coilovers without the top mounts, i was hoping to use the old ones but with new rubbers
  11. i'd double check but i'm sure the rover 45/400 mg zs is the same, theres a few on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=rover+45&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xrover+45+blower+motor.TRS0&_nkw=rover+45+blower+motor&_sacat=0

    topmounts

popped into honda today and they're discontinued. They dont share a part number with the other civics either so even if they may be the same they couldn't guarantee that they will fit. I want to re new all the rubber parts when i fit the coilovers as they only came with struts and springs.

    topmounts

yeah it's position 9 (PFKL666678 RUBBER, FR. SPRING MOUNTING) i'm struggling to find these rubbers.

do you have a link to any? i'm struggling to find them online
  15. the engines the part im most looking forward too, the rest of it will be fun and being used to heavy engineering any big job on a car seems like a minor inconvenience to me lol, changing a clutch doesnt seem too daunting when youve spent weeks changing a crank at sea haha
  16. haha yeah been collecting for a few months. not really sure if what im ordering fits lol Good at stockpiling bits but lacking on the motivation front ha worked a tiny bit on cars when i left school but been ripping ship engines to bits since, so all the chassis and suspension guff is being learned from scratch. I'll be alright with the engine internals though, albeit alot smaller than im used too.
  17. am i right in thinking the backbox from the dc2 fits straight on without modification?
  18. type r bare head factory paint mark from selection process identity stage 1 clutch 4 branch beaks bar and skunk2 lca's mg spoiler itr pistons, came with 4 oem wrist pins and a few oem stem seals new brakes all round. ebay shocks, not quite meister r's but they'll do (hopefully) I love pic heavy threads, hope you do too
  19. thanks, i've been toying with the idea of a custom manifold and hayabusa throttle bodies, but with aftermarket honda bolt on parts, it would be much easier to just buy off the shelf inlet like a skunk2 or something. Im kinda confused which direction im going to be honest, i had goals of turbocharging but i ended up winning the itr pistons on ebay and the head popped up local to me, i offered 200 quid and he accepted, it is a genuine type r head, 98 spec with the green paint mark left by honda engineers, so i'm pretty chuffed, always wanted to have a go at porting and it's nice to have a spare vtec head, maybe get a b20 and stick the c4 head on that. Daydreaming lol. For now i need to get the breathing mods sorted. exhaust is the next big one i need to sort, i'm kinda on a budget with work and the taxman rubbing his hands counting down to the 31st now, Should i get exhaust and p28 ecu and remap now? or just stick the exhaust on, have it run on stock b18c4 ecu and wait until all the mods are finished before the remap?
  20. hi all, time to make a start on my project thread. Been lurking a couple of months gathering parts and doing some research, and getting bored with the stock 100,000 mile tired old mb6 so it's time to pull my finger out and start modding. Parts so far: Ebay coilovers powerflex bushings various hard parts (tie rods etc.) plastic whales p***s new ht leads and dizzy cap/rotor bosch battery 4-1 ebay manifold drilled & grooved discs with mintex pads buddy club p1 16x7j wheels with toyo t1r's kenwood head unit, kenwood 10'' sub and jbl amp misc fluids etc. I have a set of new old stock itr pistons (pr3) and a 98 type r cylinder head (p72) with valves and springs but no cams. I plan on doing a full rebuild and hi comp N/A build in the future but for now i just want to get the car lightly modded and sitting right, work out the issues. Been hit with health problems recently so i'm not going to be overseas working for a coupla months which sucks so moneys gonna be tight but i will have plenty of time. Lucky for me i have a decent sized workshop with full sized pit with overhead beam and hoist, just need to get off my a*s and get it cleared out properly, nearly there. You'll be seeing plenty of pics over the next few weeks anyway so looking forward to you guys feedback along the way. Lets do this. mb6 with it's little brother S205OBY wheel choice voltmeter sounds will upload more pics soon
  21. those discs are shot, is that the worst of the pitting? they're pretty worn anyway looking at that ridge. set of discs and pads all round arent expensive, i'd change them
