Rear caliper bearings

So I'm getting my calipers refurbished by a local chap who normally does Jag brakes. He's hit a bit of a brick wall with the rears, as it seems that whoever reconditioned them last used some sort of plastic sleeve instead of the needle bearings for the handbrake mechanism, which has now disintegrated (probably due to the heat of a siezed handbrake.....). 

 

Now, honda don't seem to sell (or even list a part number) for the needle roller bearings, and trawling through the Internet seems to confirm this. 

 

What I'm trying to find out is what is used when calipers are remanufactured - any chance that anyone knows? 

 

I've seen on a forum in America that someone found a brass sleeve in their remanufactured ones for a teg. 

 

Obviously why they don't tend to last as long as the original ones.

Yeah, problem is that I don't have the calipers at the moment, and the bearings had been removed in the past.

I've gave it a shot in the spirit of discovery, so will see if they're right... Fingers crossed.

But if you got recon calipers surely they'd have the bearings replaced in them? And if so, then where are the recon companies getting them? Have to come from somewhere so they have to be available.

Well, it seems that the bearings might not always be replaced with bearings when refurbished... Think that a plastic sleeve might be a common thing. 

Could be why I've had umpteen rear calipers over the years.

Bit of info though... Found out this week that Brembo do refurbed standard calipers for our civics.... Prices about normal.

There easy enough to do your self if you have a mechanical understanding of some degree lol I finished mine last night and it only cost £40 to rebuild both rears and roughly about same again to do the front ones next. But if you’re not confident then I would suggest to have someone who is capable of doing the job as it’s safety over cost after all.

I'm getting them blinged up a bit at the same time, and this fella is doing the whole thing on all 4 for about £100-120 depending on how much the kits cost him

Hi there.  I don't know if I'm likely to get a reply on this old thread, but I've obtained and ruined several of these bearings trying to install them, and it would be helpful to find out how someone did this successfully before I go buying/making tools that might not be necessary.

 

I've cleaned up the bore with a brake cylinder hone followed by 2000 grit sandpaper.  Before that, I removed a couple of burrs with a Dremel.  Then I pushed the bearing with a c-clamp and a bronze bushing with an OD just a little smaller than the bearing OD.  The third try looks like it would be okay, but the cam shaft binds when I try to turn it.

 

Do you have any suggestions?

Hi. I'm sorry buddy, I don't have (or remember) any more info other than what's on this thread. 

Does the crz (assuming that's what they're for) share the same (or similar) calipers as the mb6 /MC2? These are the part numbers

 

I can confirm that they're still going strong though.
