  1. I loved my MX5 only reason I got rid was because of rust and was uneconomical to repair. Damn it was stable! Cheers, just trying to get it safe but I do indulge in the occasional VTEC!!!!! I'll check this weekend to triple check are the sensors expensive? Always wakes someone up, nothing bit of counter steer would fix!
  2. YES! I can't stand not being able to give a car some left and right action, even my Shuttle is lowered to a height so I don't have to super slow down for speedbumps. I've had an MX5 and loved the handling... hopefully get another one day. How do you think it compares to the set up you have now?
  3. So steadily chewing through the list. Today had a good mate deal with the following: CambeltWater pumpCoolant changeCenter console installed (I couldn't get those rusty bolts out!) Yum! New parts! Old one didn't look too bad! Well that looks like crap! Glad it's changed now. I should be getting it back tomorrow as he's going to take a look underneath and hopefully get it tracked. He commented that he the found drive a little skittish! Dom (Torque1320) advised to get a some extra bits: Water hoses - The ones in the car were not as firm as the original ones so were replaced at some point.Fuel filter changeSpark plug change - Have new plugs, need to changeGearbox oil change - Have oil need to change Here's a more stripped down priority list and progress report: ABS - Picking up a second hand ABS pump and ABS ECU this weekendDrivers side mirror - Fitting when weather is goodPassenger wing mirror glassAirCon - Pump, bracket, tensioner and torque mount purchased but need bolts and fittingNew tyres x 4 - See how tracking goesNew spare wheel tyreNew car key - Might be getting 3 keys and whole lock set including all barrels, transponder thingy and ECU for the price of one new key! We'll see how this pans out this weekend.Sun-roof rubber seal - Should be picking up this weekend = £10 for the seal... and sunroof!Front passenger lower fog light - awaiting stock from breakersExhaust - It was blowing but I hate the boy racer tip at the end - so found a decent second hand one.Good thing is that the engine seems to be in good condition and has seen regular oil changes. I'm getting happier as things are starting to get fixed and can't wait until its more about the drive and going fast safely... but fast again.
  4. 100% I've fallen into the making it look nice trap before but I couldn't help looking at the MGZS suspension upgrade - also had a look at UnicycleTom's videos of twisty road and track fun and looks awesome.
  5. Sweet! I provisionally held them as I can't afford awesome sauceness coiloverness.
  6. Small update. It's going in for cambelt and water pump done, center console to be replaced and ABS Looked at - chances are it could either be the pump or ecu - will be sourcing a set soon. Other than that I've stock piled some parts and waiting for the weather to clear up to then attack one weekend. I did however pass on the Meisters that were on Facebook, I actually told the guy to try on the Civic5 for sale thread, advised them they would go quick and they did! I just couldn't justify the price at the moment and felt money would be better spent on the main problems. I've been reading up on the MG suspension as an upgrade to the original suspension and wondered if you guys would recommend them?
  7. Thanks for the support guys. I'll be keeping it for now and will be getting the cambelt, waterpump dealt with first and that would also give me a chance to look at the state of the head - then we go from there! Once that has been solved will then look at the ABS...
  8. So... visited a friend who's previously worked on my Shuttle (installed VTEC Mini conversion) - he's seen a fair Honda's and gave me some bad news about the Aerodeck. Its seems that at some point in its life it had an engine replacement. It's still a B18C4 but we don't know why it would've been changed as the milage on the MOT's all add up at a steady rate - so there's one thing not to already trust - no idea how old the engine is. It would explain the missing AC along with a missing front engine brace. So now we have a fork in the road. Sell up or break for parts as I feel there's no way I can ever get the £1200 I paid for it selling it as a whole = Means I'd be back with the CRV until after I get married (this September - face palm) - Missus would kill me if I bought another car! Or Keep it. The only thing I can't account for is the engine but it still feels strong and my mate commented on how clean the oil was. He said that even after adding new oil and 300miles there would still be dirty oil at a bottom of a dipstick but the oil was clear! = Means I would fork out to get the ABS sorted and pretty much all of this list complete but it also means no goodies for it. So would be looking to spend around another £400 or so. Slowly keep finding random dents all over it so would keep it solid but a sleeper. Just not sure what to do... Are there any other options? (I've been back to the seller and he said it was the same engine when he bought it. Even if he's lying I'm still lumbered with it - I bought it checked it's HPI, MOT but failed to go with my instinct as well as checking numbers.
  9. Ouch! Looks like I need to give Honda a call... dang it. I've looked into the Hawk and it does look like a nice piece of kit!
  10. Trying to churn through... but just realised that people are already starting to prep cars for show season and may need to do some work on the Shuttle. There's probably some connections in the interior that may need blocking up - I'll try and see where the pipes go through tomorrow. I think the distributer and everything else electric related. Was told also not to jet-wash on a warm/hot engine.
  11. Hi guys, Hope someone can advise. I have only one key and one remote fob. Just wondering where's the best place to get a new key (does it have some kind transmitter inside?) and a replacement key fob. I've read somewhere that I may need to get new remotes as well as the IR receiver where the interior lights are? Thanks!
  12. Oooooh just wondering where you got the hub from? I've got a couple of wheels I wouldn't mind trying out.
  13. Don't suppose you guys have a pic of the bay and the aircon section?
  14. Hi mate, that would be awesome. Yeah it's just the glass - the previous owner stuck an aftermarket one over the original and it enlarges everything, I already wear glasses as it is and this thing makes it feel like I'm looking through a telescope... or a sniper. It does looks like dirt and grime so should be cool - just wish it was warmer! A/C coming out then! Now that's tight! I guess the beard makes it more manly?
  15. Loving this build. It's great to know you can chuck an Aerodeck around like that! Just wondering why the change in tyre wall height for track and road?
  16. Love that Land Rover! Upsets the purist a lot though! So updated list: Parts needed: Drivers wing mirror - Awaiting delivery Passenger wing mirror glass Drivers side window rubber Front passenger window rubber Plastic cover under steering wheel - Now I can put things in the little drawer Middle vent - One new vents has just been mis-aligned but easy fix Armrest console - Needs to be fitted - can't get screws out... Saturday drill time possibly Grab handle screw covers x 3 Floor mats Rear load replacement carpet section Rear side covers Rear load cover New tyres x 4 (maybe!) New spare wheel tyre Tools New car key New alarm system or new fob Sun-roof rubber seal Original air filter box Front passenger lower fog light Passenger front headlight washer jet surround - Awaiting delivery Passenger upper wish bone I also took a pic of the bay as it stands at the moment. It's very dusty and paint is flaking away. The aircon has been disconnected and to be honest I've never used aircon in any other car... but debating on whether to stick it in. Makes me sad Saturday I'll cover all the necessary components and jet wash the B***H!
  17. I think I saw your one for sale. Looked an amazing example, howcomes you need to get rid? Yep, I'm used to the car money pit. I figure its my hobby and whilst I can still afford toys I will... plus its better than spending money on booze, gambling and other random stuff. Its a passion for all of us, I guess only petrol heads will get it. It's one of the reasons I started shooting car related videos - hat tipping to all the enthusiasts! Here's one video, a super low characterful Land Rover! Will do one for the Aerodeck once I'm happy with it!
  18. Cheers mate but I have a vent on the way already... got excited/anxious and bought a whole load of parts. I'll ask the guy I'm getting parts from if he has the regulator. Thanks for the welcome! Yep definitely not a stunner, I haven't got super big plans so hopefully it's a simple Wheeler Dealers type restoration. Hahaha yeah I like it too. I always try and name my cars based on their registration and I guess because this one had 'GLE' so added the 'N' and love the 'Deck' bit which reminded me and missus of this Kiwi advert: So now everytime I say the name I say it with the accent
  19. Liking this a lot! I personally think maybe colour code surround then emblem carbon finish - it would make it pop more but it also looks good as it is!
  20. I'll have half of the list done by Saturday and it'll be mechanical and outer cosmetic stuff next! Glad it's easy swap bits! That's true the engine is pretty sweet, although it does also need a cambelt change soon! (Damn I better put that on the list!) GLE bros!!!
  21. Cheers mate. Really wanted a more sorted car but they're difficult to find as it is and everyone would rather break them and make money! I do like the colour, originally wanted a black one. I'm sure the list will get longer!
  22. So after some looking around which seemed for eternity I finally picked up a VTI Aerodeck. All the cheaper ones went so quick and so saw one on Gumtree that had been there for a while but was up in Dewsbury, a good 3 and a half hours away. I had originally wanted to wait until my CRV had sold but I thought to just go for it and stop procrastinating. On the Saturday my father and I set of at 7:30am to head up and look at the Aerodeck and basically buy it. I had a agreed with the seller that I was going to come up and was very interested. The problem was that after committing to the journey the seller had also committed to getting it through it's MOT no matter the cost. The original agreed price was was £1300 which was I would think mid range price range as I had seen them go as cheap as £550 and as high as £1800 dependant on condition and spec. This one was at 63,000miles in Baikal Green but had been stood for a year, with that I was dubious but went anyway. Got there and I went against all the buying conventions, not seeing it first, raining and the car was running. So I couldn't tell the condition of the body or engine - grrrrrrr. However it did pass it's MOT so it was legal but it had not been cared for as it was stood for a long while and the seller was a builder/joiner by trade and used it for work purposes. Reason he was selling was that he had a fall at work and was not able to drive a manual car. After chatting and looking over it and seeing what needed to be replaced or fixed and my dad spotting a dodgy tyre and getting him to replace both rear tyres we agreed a sale on £1200 also including a full replacement interior, door cards, carpet and Powerflow mid section and back box. I don't mind a little project but there is a long list, especially after looking at it in the cold light of day! Drove it down from Dewsbury and I must say it is a really nice engine, pulled well and sweet through the gears. Probably the best engine in a car that I've owned so far. It's a nice comfy ride albeit the bounciness and the skittishness of pulling away hard - hopefully that's down to the tyres. Anyway here's some pics: Bad drivers window rubber and suspected worn teeth on the regulator. Random coloured driver's side wing mirror - cracked! Mash up heater vent! Sunroof seal tatty! This is the state of centre console - was ripped out due to screws rusted. Here's some good bits! 64,000 miles (after driving it back) Nice and clean... from a distance! Finally here's a to do list! It was done after spending Sunday morning fitting the new interior... well the rear seats - was way too cold to do the fronts and carpet! Parts needed: Drivers wing mirror Passenger wing mirror glass Drivers side window rubber Front passenger window rubber Plastic cover under steering wheel Middle vent Armrest console Grab handle screw covers x 3 Floor mats Rear load replacement carpet section Rear side covers Rear load cover New tyres x 4 (maybe!) New spare wheel tyre Tools New car key New alarm system or new fob Sun-roof rubber seal Original air filter box Front passenger lower fog light Passenger front headlight washer jet surround Passenger upper wish bone Bodywork to look at: Front passenger wing Drivers front wing rust coming through Other things to do: ABS light Handbrake light Check steering componentsOnce writing the list it has put me off a little as I really wanted something cleaner and more complete BUT I am determined to save it and have it back to it's original former glory. Just have to get on with it even if it I've got most of the parts on the way from a local Aerodeck being broken for parts, so means a weekend full of cold tinkering. It's a daily so I'll be finding little things wrong and also finding awesome things about it. Future plans (that are not basic upkeep and fixing) MGZS rear ARBClay and polishCoilovers probably Meister or BCHave a look at possible wheel options. Will hope to update regularly, hope I can save it too after initial high purchase price. Cheers Jason
  23. Awesome detailed build thread. Love that you take it out on track! I guess these Decks are very capable.
