  1. Are the driveshafts from the mb6 the same? Thinking I could probably do both cv boots and that should hopefully be enough to get through the mot.
  2. Just in from the viewing. Couple wee scuffs as to be expected but no rust. He said brakes would need doing for mot, they work fine I just think it's the rears that need looking at. Heard a clunking noise when turning so when I got back I checked the cv joints, both front outers are burst. All electrics were good apart from the common heater blower. All in all it's not too bad, going to check insurance and see if it's cheaper than the mb. I could then rape the mb for the parts to make the deck sound but it's a tight timeline as it's not and tax both run out at the end of May. He wants 500 but I'm thinking of trying him with 350, as the work needing done and the tax and test. What you guys think?
  3. Excellent thanks guys! Hopefully use that to my advantage.
  4. Cool cheers guys. Is there a web site you can go on to check previous mots? Would I just need the reg or is it the reg document number?
  5. Hi folks, if anyone's read my mb6 build thread you'll see if had a bit of a bad time with the engine needing a bigger family car and iv spotted a aerodeck a few miles from mine for £500. It's not and tax is up at the end of this month so I'm hoping that will work as a good bartaring tool. It's a 1.6 and I plan to either break my mb and transfer the good bits over or overhaul the engine What things should I look out for on the deck? Hoping I can knock him down for the short tax and test, and there's a scuff on the front bumper. Mileage is 88k, year is 2000. Cheers Martin
  6. So I'm i lol I put it on the same way as the old one came off, with the up mark up lol really bugging me like! Really want to keep the car, like the colour, practicality and performance.
  7. I removed the inlet manifold tonight, doesn't seem to have revealed anything tho. Pics of the ports... Anymore suggestions? Only thing I can think of is takin head off and doing the whole process again. I really need to pin point the problem so I'm not throwing money away
  8. Such a well built car! I love the wire tuck, something I'd like to try myself. Well done!
  9. No I didn't,should I? I struggled to see with the light on my phone, will take a closer look tomorrow or get the camera on with the flash and take a pic to try see better. The compression was about 170-80psi across all four.
  10. Yes but slowly, so i was told. It was taking that long that id finished doing what i was doing and went back inside lol
  11. I think there are 4 piston rings per piston so it would be unlikely (so im told) to get no compression. The compression test i did showed them all to be very similar, 4 and 3 were slightly higher but they had oil in the bores so its like a wet test. Also took ages for the petrol to drain down when i tested them when the head was off.
  12. I would have thought so! It never smoked as bad as it does now.
  13. Ok had a quick 5 mins when I got home so whipped the exhaust manifold off. Couldn't see any oil residue like before. Il remove inlet next so see if there's any signs of oil there. If there's not then is it the rings? Cheers
  14. Really like this! Shame your selling up sits so well on those wheels.
  15. Yep no4 is the worse and it was fine before. Not had a chance, working till 5 the day and got my final exam tomorrow so not sure if il get it checked tonight.
  16. Do they come on with the side lights or instead of them? Could be interested in a set once I get my engine sorted.
  17. Here is a pic of my new plugs after. 80miles
  18. Yeah these were all changed. I'd have thought that when the plugs are tightened that no oil would get past. Had that problem with a zetec engine in a escort I had. Only puffed smoke if I removed the plugs and some oil went in the bores, this is smoking all the time ATM Been looking at replacement engines but people tend to sell the whole conversion for good money. Probably cheaper buying another car lol
  19. Yeah inlet manifold is a bit of a pain to get off. Il see if I get time tomorrow to have a look!
  20. Good shout! I'd expect to see some in no3 and 4 due to the state I the plugs and I can see oil through the spark plug hole! Cheers
  21. Damn! So what's going in then? Think I'm goin to have to take the head off again. It was smoking all the time, real bad today!
  22. Thanks! Appreciate any input I can get ATM. Basically burnt a valve, had 2 valves replaced, head skimmed, new stem seals fitted, refitted it and it's smoking worse than before!like all the time. Removed my new 80 mile old spark plugs and no 3 and 4 are covered in oil! Can see oil on top of the pistons. The valves went on no3 and the rest were all ok!
  23. I looks like it's broken as there's rough uneven surface/break. Not sure if it's allowing oil into the combustion chamber?
  24. Yup it's a hole don't know if I can just get it blocked and welded or if il have to get another head. God knows how it happened.
  25. Removed the pcv valve and it was still clean and working. Ran with it disconnected and made no difference got a bit p**sed off so started stripping it again. Removed rocker cover and found this........ Wtf? Think I would have noticed this before!dont know how it's happened. Now need to try a look at options. Don't know if I could get it welded to block it off or going to need to source a new head.
