All I can say is I love the look of both deck and hatch yes I have two Mbs but would love a deck to No cash for that Project k28 deck.6 points

ah yes found it, its just the way people say it, a bit out of order.3 points

Having owned both I'd have to say I prefer the deck! Practicality was a big part for me with having two kids. The big boot is awesome and it's surprising what you can fit in a deck. And I just think that modded estate cars look cool! Gives you the cool dad points lol3 points

Aerodecks for me mainly coz they're rarer and don't get confused with a rover3 points

decks all the way!! its all about the WAGON life!! here's a few!3 points

Cracked up reading the comments here You want my opinion? Well first off... I had a mb3 hatch and now currently have a mb9 Aerodeck. Both had the same engines and the same mods. Induction kit with caf, de-cat, mgzs back box and few other bits and pieces. When it came to power and handling (on standard suspension) I couldn't see a difference.. As for weight wise, I cannot say much about that because the hatch was 1118kg whilst the Aerodeck is 1190kg (even though the Aerodeck had no air con and the mb3 did have air con) The weight difference is very small... Appearance... well, as much as I loved my mb3, I still vote for the Aerodeck. I have always thought MB rear end looks too short. I think it would look better if it had a boot instead of a hatchback (a bit like the Honda Domani sedan) With the Aerodeck, I feel the added bit at the rear gives it the smoother lines. Just my thought2 points

Not to mention the hatch looks like a Rover. This comment always ruffles a few feathers. Looking at the back of my MB6 makes me vom. I'd swap it for a deck any day!2 points

Aerodeck all the way. The hatch is naturally an un-cool car imo. Something about estates that are badass.2 points

That's just how it is on a good week cycling wise mate! But dare I say I'm having doubts....2 points

Ha what a great thread!!! Great to see all of it being taken in good hearted banter! My two pence worth. As most of you will know, I HAD to buy a deck, wife three kids, dog, bike, camping holidays etc etc I just couldn't have bought a hatch as it wasn't practical! I'd spent a few years shifting between cars and not enjoying anything id owned. I had to have vtec back in my life and the deck was the only one that would allow me to while being practical enough to meet my needs. Having said that. The deck wasn't a thing of beauty when I bought. In fact I'd go as far to say that the deck is actually a little funny looking standard. It's a little grandad esq and doesn't look mean, or intimidating BUT that's an attraction for me! The understated look catches many people off! And even when modified people still don't think an estate will beat them off the line! But with a few modifications and some proper tlc, they turn into something different all together! I love my deck and genuinely cannot see me ever selling it. I couldn't get enough money for it for what I think it's worth. And Ali in the figures front. There are numerous hatches I've gone side by side with this year, none have pulled away from me2 points

We ARE playing nicely Mr B! I actually like the laugh with the whole 'Ronda' thing etc. I started this thread so people can express their opinions on the two models. By giving examples of why one person likes one particular shape. It gives this community a chance for friendly banter between the two styles of owners, plus we get to see Chandlers nice car! I did say i like modded Decks earlier! I have observed that the 'Deck Squad' seem more passionate about their style of cars than maybe hatch owners are. I was wondering why this was? For example, in some COTM's there is a genuine excitement when a Deck enters COTM and there are comments on how many Decks are in for voting. Hatch owners are kind of 'meh' when it comes to that. Also Deck owners seem to encourage Hatch owners to buy a Deck but not the other way about. Is it maybe because the hatch owners know their cars are cool and don't have to 'sell them' to others? I shall leave my thoughts up for discussion if you like2 points

know exactly how you feel as I got to this stage a while ago with my car2 points

Well I think that is me done messing about with modding my MB6. I have recently had the arches rolled and suspension setup with a healthy -1 camber on front and -1 on rear. Doesn't handle quite as sharp as the previous track setup but my tyres will now last longer! I have taken the car as far as i think is justifyable in terms of age and what i use the car for. I'm happy with the power and handling so no need to spend big on cams, intake etc. The car is now built for track days and hooning, whilst it's also my daily drive. I will continue to maintain the car to a high standard and spend to keep it on the road for a further couple of years! It's honestly been a great buy and still love driving it after over 2.5 years. Long may that continue.....if i don't get any more Asbo's! So this build thread will now be less interesting!2 points

I used EBC discs and Greenstuff pads around the Nurburgring and founds once I'd stopped the pads binding in the carriers they were upto the task 8 laps later they still worked well on the trip home and are still sitting on the hubs in the garage now! The powder coating they put on the back of the pad is a little too thick and needed to be cut away on my car but that could just be bad luck on my part as I've never had the problem before. I've also tried Black Diamond discs on several other cars with Ferrodo pads and had some very good results. I'd recommend decent over braided brake hoses as well, I've run HEL and Goodridge ones over the years and had no issues, they also improve brake feel and if the car is still running the original OEM ones they will probably be coming up for a change. The HEL ones on the Civic were a good fit. Stock: HEL: DOT 5.1 is another good call, I always swap that into every car I've ever owned after DOT 4 boiled on me during a spirited drive home one night. Never had the problem since! You could go balls out and put something a little more powerful under the wheels....... Yet to try these in anger yet but so looking forward to it!!!2 points

I thought i would just start a wee thread to take our banter away from Simpo's thread as he is trying to sell his car and it is being hijacked! After a few of my comments regarding Decks, i would just like to say that i don't hate them, just think they have been designed by a primary skool kid! To the point, hatches are lighter, look better and are generally better!!!!!1 point

So that settles it then, neither are bettet than the other they are both m's which instantly makes both awsome choices.1 point

Oh dear, lets all play nicely and agree that its all down to personal taste. I was of the opinion that the deck looked wierd and was not a fan until i joined civic5 then they grew on me and i love them now. But MY personal preference is for the hatch. Reaf carefully i said my preference not one is better than the other as thats how it works, you get choices and everybodys choice is different. Thats why manufacturers give us options to please everyone...1 point

But true car enthusiasts can tell the difference between a Rover and an MBmate!1 point

lol My ban stick is coming oot! lmfao! Bend over Ali!! The standard decks don't look gash, neither do the hatchbacks. Period!1 point

Lol lord banter esq' but i still say you cant mistake a deck for a rover as honda wouldnt let them have the body design . By an inch or a mile a deck is a deck woopwoop1 point

lol yeah, there's a hella lot of decks here now! I can remember for almost the first year this forum was running we only had one deck........Dawns Deck! Was a novelty when the second, then third deck arrived! Having had both, I'm kinda stuck with which I prefer style wise. I think the hatch is great, and can be made to look the nuts with a few simple mods. The decks, imo, are one of the nicest looking estate cars there is. I think Honda played it clever with the style of the deck, by keeping the size down instead of lopping a huge back end on there. The decks style and size make it look classy, but again, with some choice mods they can also be made to look quite evil! Driving wise, driven the hatch VTi and been in a VTi deck, and tbh, the decks extra inches don't seem to make that much of a difference, which I thought it would. Both the VTi's were standard at the time. I fitted MeisterR's to the MB6 and it was like night and day. Handling was immense! I've since fitted them to the deck, and again, like night and day compared to standard. I know how well Ruby handled, but have only once kinda given the deck a good try out on the coast road. Dougie I think will confirm, the deck is handling sweet as! I'd even say it's on par with Ruby now. Which is something, seeing as the deck has no rear ARB (these in my opinion are well over rated!) and she's on 16' rims as opposed to Rubys 15' rims. Those two points alone would maybe suggest that the hatch would have way better handling, but it doesn't! Honestly, DD is so well planted it actually feels like driving Ruby! Sooooooo, which, when given an ultimatum, do I prefer??? Honestly, it's close, but have to say the deck!1 point

Ok... this is abit of a uh. Shock? ha! Heres before.. And after! And my favourite..some cheeky camber ill get a decent camber pic soon It effin low on he back! I have a feeling the shock is shot. But theres no bounce. Did noticed its movable in the air, the ek is about 6mm shorter, so ill swap tje shocks over to see if its better in the future. Its low enough on the front to scrape the plastics underneath.. so im happy! Quick note. The front shocks are about 20mm shorter on the ek than the mc... I think the springs are between 20-30mm.. so its a good buy in my eyes! Love how low the back is though lol1 point
