Spoon sump arrived yesterday and fitted. Everything ok Been a long drawn out saga but the Moroso sump doesn't look bad after tightening issues, so will hopefully sell that to my mate who seems interested. I fitted a daytime driving led strip to the interior today (stick on)....Feck me that thing is bright It is an 'Alastair special' instillation but it does the trick! Pictures later as I have left my phone in the house (I'm at work now) -
Can you not take the pipes off and renew the seals inside?

Burbleboy's VTi-S Build **NOW SOLD 16/12/15**
burbleboy replied to burbleboy's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
Cheers mate. Phoned the company back and told them to send it asap. Hope the monkeys in my work don't over tighten this one. It must have been ME that somehow managed to over tighten it the first time, as the leak was from the same place, BUT the mechanic managed to rip the new sump gasket. Which means HE had over tightened. I saw the gasket come out the sides of the sump when I looked underneath on Sunday. But it's my word against his as to who damaged the sump, so I will take it on the chin and move on. If he fecks the new one then it's on his head. -

If anyone on here has any doubts that a fellow member may be ordering incorrect items or even just guiding them to double check things then I'm all for it! Best to double check things in case it may be wrong. -

You were right to question it mate. Made me double check as can't afford to have this wrong! It's the B16 sumps that are different to B18. Oil pick ups are different. According to Internet, all B18 sumps are the same. -

Just phoned the company and they said it states 'any b18 swopped cars'. I asked her to double check with someone to make sure. Order being held until I hear back. In mean time other orders list it as the same;http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=281513352058&category=122139&pm=1&ds=0&t=1428932203162 -

That's just to hold it in place, not to act as an oil barrier. Honda only recommend fitting the gasket. There are nipples on the sump to hold gasket in place also. Never will I recommend an aftermarket sump. -

Also, according to forums (not that they are reliable) others have had similar problems with sumps distorting. They say the sumps are fragile when it comes to torquing them and must be done correctly. Ffs! Just gets better n better eh? -

Right...The mechanic working on it couldn't get it to seal either. Luckily u had kept the old sumo and after taking it off (again) they found the Moroso sump was distorted due to overtightning. I had torqued them to correct as followed the instructions. Going to order an OEM sump n gasket tomorrow as want no messing about. According to this....torque setting is 8.7lbf-ft.....sump manufacturer says 9lbf-ft. May have a case for refund IF Western Honda confirm this. The difference may be 0.3 lbf-ft but it may be huge in 'torque world' -

My weekend on for the rota mate! Overtime tho -
Great news that all went well with the track day mate Great to see people using there cars for track fun....but it IS daunting for most to take their daily drive onto a track where barriers and other drivers could damage it. Such a buzz doing track days and glad car was flawless....as I knew it would be

The OEM trailing arm bushes are designed to be softish. Under braking the bushes flex slightly which introduces a 'toe in' effect which helps with stability under braking. Changing to Poly bushes would compromise braking stability (under heavy braking I may add). I personally would keep them OEM as the manufacturer developed those braking characteristics. But it's whatever Dawn would have wanted, as this is just an opinion- 919 replies
