    c.v joint make a knocking noise, if its creeking its more likely to be a steering related balljoint or bush of some description or the other thing with that sort of noise is have you checked your power steering fluid level as if its low it will creek and groan on hard lock when under strain..

    As said above the dipstick will be on the lid, as you prob already know now anyway.. Hope you did nor overfill it as power steering systems are pretty precise and don't like too little or too much fluid... Fingers crossed for you no leaks, but i would get that area cleaned asap that way you can tell if there is any fresh fluids leaking afterwards, and it will look nicer clean as well...
