1.8 Aerodeck from Finland (10 years of ownership)
Dexter replied to Dexter's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
TSS tuning camber kit on the way, now just gotta get rid of my buddy club kit. But i've found my new favourite substance! U know that hella-sticky, rotten gray coloured gluey crap that's behind the splash shields underneath the door trim panels? Mmmmm i love that stuff. Especially on my fingers. And legs. And clothes. And still on my fingers after five washes. And still on my fingers in the morning while making breakfast. I wish there would be more of that all around the car. Now i can only enjoy it while cleaning the doors for hushmat installation. I didn't plan on doing the rear doors but since it was so much fun, and it's so nice outside, maybe i'll do them today! Isn't it great to be on holiday!- 883 replies

A few touch-up's can do wonders to the engine bay, looking good! I feel like i'm neglecting my own car, the last time the engine bay had some cleaning up was 2 years ago when the drivebelt was changed...

Great idea. I think i'll try the same, since i've gotten so many "too big"-comments on the red badge (meant for the grille) i've stuck on my steering wheel.

I thought so too, but i had to learn something the hard way... Bought the Buddy Club kit off ebay and got a disappointing call from my mechanic today: he said the mounting points or something like that on the kit were 8mm too narrow. He said he could do a custom installation and make it fit but it would most probably ruin the caster. So i said forget it, and now i'm searching for another kit. Any ideas? TSS tuning has one for sale, which strangely fits both the MB6 and MC2. So what's up with that? I'm really confused now.- 883 replies

Lower! Don't color code it, man! Doesn't work on silver. Sorry EKLewis . Black wheels +. -
You must be on the few who hasn't fallen into the "bigger is better"-trap when it comes to exhausts! After all it's the bhp gain that counts and if the SS works the way it's supposed to, good decision. One of the hardest decisions i've had was to choose what kind of exhaust to upgrade to, and after over a year of research settled for a custom 2,25" stainless. Before that i considered everything between a 2" Supersprint and a custom 2,5" with jap backbox, and still don't think i have a definite answer that i chose the best option. But hey, wouldn't this be a boring hobby if it would be so easy?

Is the Supersprint a 2-incher? I looked at these at one point but then dismissed it as too expensive, and too small, even though i'd think the quality would be spot on.

So here's what's up: started getting a slight clunking sound from the front passenger side suspension when driving over small bumps etc. a month back. Took a look, didn't see anything peculiar. I asked a tuner about it and he said it's most definitely a broken bush. So i bought and installed a Powerflex front bush kit, but it didn't fix the problem so i gave the shop free hands to find the source of the problem. They checked the shock and other components but didn't find anything wrong about that particular corner. But loads of other stuff was found to be, in their words, on the brink of breaking up: a rear wheel bearing, rear brake "sliding pins"? (not sure about the correct word!), driver side upper control arm and a track rod end. Got everything fixed except the upper control arm, and cost me a fortune... but the way i like to look at it, i got some restoration and upgrades done, and since i have to replace one upper control arm i might as well buy myself a buddy club camber kit . I turned 29 last week and haven't bought a present for myself yet so that might as well be it. But the shops opinion about the clunking sound: the car is just simply too low. And in my opionion, it's way too high... So very, very reluctantly i raised my car by about 7mm and voila, problem solved. Well, almost, the sound isn't completely gone, but doesn't appear nearly as often as it used to so i guess i'll be able to live with it for now. So next up: Buddy Club camber kit. Does anyone know if the DC2-kit which fits the MB6 works as well on a MC2? I'm not sure if the suspension components are identical or not. After that, exhaust... finally... hopefully! It's been frustrating, since i've had most of the parts in boxes in my room for a few months now, but gotta fix what's broken first! Waiting for the next paycheck...- 883 replies

Aaahhh now i see what you mean. Funny thing i've never noticed. But now that you mentioned, i think the difference is between the front door and the rear door. Rear door compared to the back end of the car i can't see a difference. Perhaps it's the sun playing tricks?- 883 replies

I've heard that one before, mate ! Last comment was: "Are you sure the badge on your steering wheel is large enough?". I would've liked a smaller one but that was the only one i could find at the time. And since there's a honda logo on the steering wheel anyway, i want it to be red!- 883 replies

These will definately go in, since i've already got them, just waiting for installment: a new sound system, Tegiwa 4-2-1, high-flow cat, Magnaflow backbox and a short shifter kit. Coming in the mail soon: Powerflex bushes for the front end. Starting in late June i've got 7 weeks of holidays so i'll definately give my MC2 some deserved attention after the long, cold and snowy winter... i've even still got my winter tyres on!

Spark plugs will be replaced, but oil was changed in december (Castrol Magnatec) and the fuel filter a year ago so it should be all good. Two runs, and the results were almost identical. I asked about that, but the tuner said it's the same thing as with power from the wheels, you can't get an exact result without adding any modifiers and he said he doesn't do that because according to him it's all just more or less guesswork. During the runs he revved up to the limiter, which is at around 8100rpm i reckon. However the results show the limiter kicking in at around 7600rpm. In reality peak bhp and torque was made at higher rpm, but since it's measured from the wheels it shows up lower. Confusing? It was, and still is to me. But when you compare factory peak bhp and torque revs (7600 and 6300) to my results (7200 and 5900) you can see that the difference for both is 400rpm. So the relationship is the same which should speak for a healthy engine. So what i'll do next: install new mani, cat, exhaust and backbox, replace the plugs and then take it for a rerun. Then i'll atleast see how much difference the new exhaust makes. And if the number look still too low, i'll just take it to another, more sensible dyno. Bottom line is, the car is still as fun to drive as it was before, there's no way i'm going to let some piece of paper spoil my fun!- 883 replies

Got the car dynoed, stock except high-flow intake and no middle silencer. The results were a bit surprising. Here we go: Max power was 96,3kw from the wheels, which translates into 131,25bhp. As engine horsepower is 9-12% more, an educated estimate would give me 145 as actual bhp. Using the same calculations torque would be at 156nm. So it looks like i've lost 24bhp and 10nm over the years, and even though i expected the 12 year old 100000 mile engine to have lost some power, i didn't expect the loss the be that big. I asked the tuner about it, and he was cool and said that the curves on the sheet look perfectly normal for a b18, and the engine runs smoothly, so it's highly unlikely that there's anything broken. Normal wear and perhaps a restrictive cat and backbox were the reasons he thought the numbers were low. And this guy knows Hondas: his name is Toni Ruokonen, he has years of experience and finnish championship titles racing Civics and Integras and actually won the British National Saloon championship in a Peugeot 306 in 2000. But still, i can't help but feel a bit disappointed with the results, as i've seen quite different numbers here on civic5 . The car doesn't feel sluggish to me, but then again my previous car had 90bhp so i can't really tell what it should feel like. I did take another MC2 for a testdrive before i bought this one, and it felt pretty much the same so i don't know if there's a problem anywhere. What do you guys reckon of the results? The dyno was a Rototest hub-mounted dynamometer.- 883 replies

What are headlight washers for anyway? Just dead weight, if you ask me...! I removed them and the tubes into my "stock-and-not-going-back-during-my-ownership"-box. But seriously, i just didn't like the look of them sticking out. I think the overall look is much smoother without them.- 883 replies

Time for an update. I was playing with a fisheyelens in september, here's one of the shots: Winter came early this time, and i didn't manage to install my new soundsystem before it got too cold to work outside so that project is on hold until it warms up a bit. And we've sure had a good winter here, more snow than i can ever remember. Which ofcourse meant testing the limits of my lowrider quite often... can't say i managed without any bottom hits, but atleast nothing broke! I had a mysterious oil loss, no leaks were ever found so i'm hoping it was just because of too much vtec in cold weather . But finally managed to find the source to my temp gauge problem by replacing the sensor, thanks to johngreen, civicturbo and jalesi for your help. The mailman brought some boxes last week: A 2,25" Magnaflow backbox and 2,5" Martelius (finnish custom exhaust shop) high-flow cat . Next purchase will be a 4-2-1 Tegiwa header with a 2,5" collector, and then i'll be all set to build my custom exhaust system. I'm hoping to get the best of both worlds by gaining a bit of hp and torque with the 2,5" to the cat and 2,25" from the cat to the backbox-setup. I'll probably get it dynoed before and after to see the actual difference. But no matter what the result, i'm just happy to get some mods done after the long cold winter!- 883 replies

Strips of thin plasticard. It works ok, but it's only a temporary solution. The paint isn't a 100% match and the fit could be better, but definitely stands out less that the huge black blocks. The hardest part is that the bumper curves where the headlight washers are, and glueing the strips into place without any edge peeling up was a pain. The whole front bumper needs a repaint, so i think some day i'll use filler on the holes and take it to a painter. I just wonder when that "some day" will come...- 883 replies

Cheers, man. There's a community center with a wood shop near my work so i think i'll ask them to make some mdf spacers for me. Got the measurements done so all i need to do is ask how much they want for the job. Might take a while though, first i gotta paint the walls of my new apartment so i can start moving.- 883 replies
