  1. Sharp eyes! It said Blox on the box. TSS is a funny company because they let you assume that most of the stuff is their own manufacture but in the end they sell a lot of stuff that's made by others, they just never mention it on their website and you won't find out until the mailman comes.
  2. Good work mate, might do mine one day.
  3. 27.2.2012: It never ends! These go in next week: Hope so too... third time, man! The temperature finally rose above zero and i'm working night shift tonight so had time to give her a proper wash today:
  4. I've had H&R coils for 2 years now. Cost me 1000€, but had no choice at the moment. Proper quality but would like to have adjustable damping as well with that price.
  5. It's been a while but the deck is still alive and seen some upgrades as well. I needed new plugs in the fall and decided to upgrade. After some research and realizing that NGK Iridium plugs won't increase performance one bit on my car, i bought them anyway! Just wanted to upgrade a bit, and wasn't expensive. Next i picked up a set of m-civic Recaro rails i stumbled upon on ebay. Got a good deal so i didn't want to miss it, since these don't come up too often. Don't have the seats yet, but it's always nice to know i've got something cool gathering dust in the closet... Winter came and boy has it been cold and snowy! Since i was having starting issues last year (had a 4,5 year old Atlas) i decided to upgrade to a Optima Yellowtop. Wasn't the cheapest but the car starts almost before i even turn the key! The battery got a pretty good test when i went on holiday to the alps and got back a week later, 5th of Feb. to -25c weather. Here's a photo and a video of starting the car up the next day: Since that it's been snowing and snowing... here's the deck on 20.2. Took 22 minutes to dig it out! Plans for the next few weeks include replacing the fuel filter, installing a short shifter and bushes, and trying for the third time to get a front camber kit installed... let's hope it finally goes in! Got a TSS kit this time.
  6. Well deserved, congrats! Can't wait to see a deck featured in a mag. Just renewed my subscription.
  7. Looking good. But would look even better lower !
  8. Almost! It was the 10th anniversary trackday of a finnish japcar-forum, there were about 25 cars doing laps but usually only 5 cars at the track on the same time. Most of the time was spent cooling down, fixing and fine-tuning the cars. And when the track is 2700m long (about 1,7 miles), there's a good chance of not even seeing anyone during the couple of laps you take at a time. I was passed twice during the day, one was a Eunos roadster and the other a Impreza STI. If you're interested about the hardware there's some more pics here: http://arosuzi.1g.fi/kuvat/Dyny+Alastaro+25.7.2011/
  9. Dexter's track debut at Alastaro, Finland 25.7.2011: Was a fun, bendy track with big safe zones. My max speed at the straight was 130km/h (about 80 mph). Easy to learn the correct lines, except the 2 last turns i never managed to get quite right. I had some issues with my left hand side suspension. As you can see and hear from the video, all my left turns are fast with that nice tire squeal but when turning right i sometimes felt my front left corner giving in a bit. It felt like the tyre was wobbling under the pressure. You can notice that by me easing on the wheel on some of the harder turns. I know that the front left upper control arm is a bit worn, i don't know what's the correct word to describe it but there's some slack, if you know what i mean? My mechanic assured me it's safe for a track day but i'm going to get it fixed before next time. Hoping that it will fix the wobble issue. If not, then i'm dumping my 1000€ coil kit straight into the baltic sea!
  10. Thanks, Pioneer is the way to go! Did a bit of research and repairs over the weekend. First i removed and cleaned the vtec solenoid. The filter looked oily but not cloggy, all in all pretty healthy. I gave a thorough wipe on the whole thing and some serious (but gentle) toothbrushing for the filter. Didn't notice any change in vtec engagement while driving though. Did this because of comments concerning my dyno results earlier this year, somebody also mentioned that "IAB butterflies may be sticky". Can i check this somehow? Second i wired my rad fan straight into the battery too see if it still works. Well it did. Yesterday i had my first trackday, and at one point i noticed my temp needle had gone all the way to the top. And no fan. So it must be the sensor, should be pretty easy to swap i reckon. But concerning the track day, was hella fun! I can't believe how nervous i was when i got there, but after a few warmup laps with a experienced copilot i realised it's just like go kart racing. With gear changes. Not that i had to do a lot of it, i only needed 2nd and 3rd gears throughout the whole track. Highlights of the day was passing a Fiat Bravo , and keeping up with a EP3 who was another first timer as well. Also i saw a turboed NSX for the first time. That thing was maaaaaaad! I've got some in car video i'll try to post to youtube soon.
  11. JBL GTO680C. The fit is pretty good, had to drill new holes for the front and on the back the speaker is a bit longer than stock, perhaps 2-3cm so had to saw off the back of the original speaker housing. Luckily there's plenty of room inside the door. This is the first speaker upgrade i've ever done so i don't have much to compare to but compared to stock it's just luverly . Forgot to put a picture of the headunit so here it is:
  12. Hmm... i wonder which will sound better: On the door: Can barely notice that there's a new one inside: And the whole door completed: Only visual difference to stock is the crossover in the right hand corner of the door compartment. But i will cover it in a similar way as the left hand corner of the same compartment, hope it works out.
  13. New sound system up and running: JBL mids and tweeters + crossovers and a Pioneer headunit. With the help of Silentcoat on both front doors the sound quality is in my opinion heaps better than with the stock system all the way up to 40mph. After that the engine/road noise starts to overtake certain frequencies but the graphic eq on the Pioneer helps to sort out that problem quite nicely. In the end the whole operation of sound deadening, fitting the headunit and speakers and doing the wiring was time consuming but relatively easy even though this was my first time installing ice. A big thanks goes out to civic5, Greg and ryan.. for all their help! Will post some pics later.
  14. Aah well in that case i'm with you. I thought you were talking bout the vti-s earlier. The normal vti front lip works fine without skirts but the vti-s screams for them, imho. The vti-s front is a bit aggresive, to be honest. Nice rims on your old ride by the way.
  15. I fitted my new Jbl mids into to the old housings. But they were deeper than the originals, so i had to cut off the rear of the oem housing to make them fit. So my question is, can i leave them like this, exposed, or should i come up with something diy to protect them from water etc. crap finding it's way inside the doors? Judging from how much time i spent cleaning the insides of the door prior to sound deadening, A LOT of shizzle finds it's way in.
  16. Well if you add a vti-s front lip but no side skirts your side profile will look like you have a plough! And that's quite far from standard look...
  17. Once your ride is lowered you won't want the mudflaps anymore... the voice of experience!
  18. Thanks John, but i've got one more question: the fan motor connector is pointing downwards so there's no way i can see in there when i poke the wires in. So if the + wire from the battery goes into - and vice versa, will i break something? Cause this will be blind shooting.
  19. The thermo was changed a year ago and also last winter when i had issues with the temp gauge so i'm pretty sure it works but will check the hoses too. Okay i've never done this kind of stuff before so do i just disconnect the fan motor connector, stick + and - wires there and the other ends to the battery?
  20. Nice dials! Same as mine . How did you wire them? I connected mine to a bulb in the instrument cluster, but the connection isn't very good and sometimes i don't get the cool plasma shine...
  21. I was taking my deck down a nice twisty country road yesterday, about 10mins mostly on vtec and the engine got pretty warm, the needle rose well over the halfway mark which it never has done before. Usually it sits around 1/3 from the bottom. When i stopped the car i noticed the rad fan wasn't working. I've never paid attention to the fan before, but that's because i've never had overheating issues so can't tell for sure how long it's been out of order. So time to check the fuse, radiator, fan switch and wires to start with and hope it's nothing more serious. I'm going to the track in 2 weeks and the last thing i want there is an overheating engine!
  22. Driver door done. Wasn't as easy as i thought, as the uneven surface took a lot of time to get a relatively smooth install while using as big sheets as possible. The wires and numerous holes i had to poke didn't make it any easier but all in all pretty simple though a bit time consuming project. Used 10 sheets of Silent Coat on one door, which adds up to 3,5kg. Which means soooooo many more seconds to my 0-60mph time so don't even mention it!
  23. Can't say yet, since i'm only halfway done and the little driving i've been doing has been without the door card...
  24. Been busy: Both front doors are now squeaky clean and silentcoated from the inside. Took quite a while to do but i'm pretty satisfied with the results, got almost every inch covered. But not without some cuts and bruises to my hands and arms from trying to reach all the farthest corners... skinny hobbit thief hands come in handy sometimes! The outer layer should be dead easy to do, just have to make sure i remember to poke all the holes for the wires. And then in go the new speakers... Just need to sort out a few wiring issues first.
