Cheers. For the exhaust I was going to hand the car to Liquid Metal in Bicester and have them fabricate something on the car. I've had a Powerflow system before and they can tune the noise to suit but they do get louder with more driving. That will be one of the last things to go on the car! Sorry, been away a lot with work but some progress. I'll try and summarise: Bonnet catches - DONE Went for paint/bodywork quote. Mild heart attack - more pennies to be saved Return, started the refit. New deep dish steering wheel to bring the wheel closer to me to make it more comfortable Good but not perfect Routing power and fuel lines down the tunnel plus working out where the mini heater will fit Fuel lines go through in the top right corner of the dash Fuel filter with dry break quick disconnect and safety locking system. All made by a local hydraulics company Windscreen washer bottle - new left, stock right Should save room and weight Sunroof plug mould - mounted on wooden panel and filled the underside Need to expand the mould by a few mm as the roof opening is 10mm bigger than the panel. 3.6mm ply sheet all around to give less of a gap to put the sealant into There is a gap under the lip of the roof panel where the rubber seal went so filled in the majority of it with wire, all that I had to hand! Made up the corners in sections as the wood will not bend enough in one piece Filler, sand, filler, sand, filler, sand, filler, sand........................ Just needs filler primer and a final sanding and the plug is done!!! Stock dash was becoming a nightmare to plug all the holes ready to take a mould from So went back to my own design. Needed to be modified to take the centre vent (which gives access to the middle mounting screw), side plate angle in slightly to make it easier to remove from the mould tool and the top edge rounding off to match the curve of the screen Seen this trick done for speaker boxes, cover the frame in fleece material and apply resin to it. It sets solid, and you can fibre glass the back of it to give it structure Hated it, all the ribs were on show and would require a ton of work to complete Scrap the idea and switch to plan B, fill all the flats in with thin ply Cover the ends up Re check it fits. Made sure it was easy to get in and out without going through the windscreen!! Now need to locate the steering wheel (new wheel, come to that in a bit) Align the centre console Onto the steering column, worked out where is went through the dash and cut the hole. Refitted the column and refitted the dashboard and all the covers Wheel now sits exactly where I want it with a flat wheel and 60mm spacer. 3 different wheels, original Momo I bought for the car from a DC2 that came with the correct boss to fit the civic, the deep dish wheel that I wanted to move it closer to me and the new wheel and spacer that is even closer that the deep dish Check where the instruments will end up and if the centre vent will fit So now that's all done I got on with the filling and sanding ready yo make a mould from the dash Used expanding foam and tape to make up the gaps Once set this stuff cuts and sands so easily Also plugged up the column hole. Ready now for filler New and "old" dashboards Had to mod the centre console to fit. I want to use the original part as a template, but it gets in the way of the brake bias lever. I cut a section away and sanded all that dam rhino skin effect off! Took ages! Finally, got the wheels to clear the front brakes with spacers. Hate spacers but these hub centric H&R ones are pretty cool. Anodised black they also blend in to the wheel/brake bell Sorry - big post and I know I've missed a few things! Must remember to keep this updated2 points

Yeah let's see what happens.. Meanwhile the mini mods continue.. I had some pirates black spray left so decided to spray the front bump strips.. All done.. Looks much tidier than the plastic trim I think1 point

Yeah the Meisters come with new LCA bolts so we didn't have to care about breaking the old ones. Still got them out in one piece though!1 point
-
that's too much effort and im young and impatient so will probably just leave it just now... since it never rains in Scotland...1 point

Maz Bhai, don't give up when you're this close! When we did @Roj LCA bolts one of them took 3hrs but we tried heat it up and knock it out and it worked, luckily he had a spare LCA bolt, don't give up bro! The price is a good price but if you have a cheaper way to go about it and it'll work then go for it! I wanna see this on coilovers at japfest 11 point

Yes in the end. Once all filled and smoothed I will filler prime and smooth off (not glass smooth like the roof but close) and then make a skirt around the edge to stop any gel coat or fibre glass going around the edge then take a fibre glass mould from this wooden plug. Once set, pull out the wooden plug, apply wax and release agents and fill back in with gel coat and fibre glass that will give me light weight custom dash. I'll have this flocked so finish doesn't have to be perfect1 point

Oh yeah defo. To be honest though this time round IM gonna replace the input shaft bearing and put this 4th gear in and that will do for now. unless there's any other obvious damage to address. Can always pull it off again later if need be. Recon I can have gearbox removed in just over an hour nowadays. So not end of the world. Kinda reminds me of a kids stacking toy to work long as it all goes back in order. Some parts need to go in one way so need to observe the tabs etc. Else it won't be selecting properly.1 point

I had this once and it was a tensioner had come away and was sat in amongst the belts. Think my AC compressor was knackered too. You could trial and error it by taking a belt off, start the car and see if the noise is still there. Should help narrow down what's causing it.1 point

I was £120 to get my coilovers fitted and he left me to adjust them as well, but that was a while ago before I knew anything about cars, £80 is cheap for lca's and coilovers!1 point

Had my old box in bits this eve. Just kinda as a test run get my head round what does what and how it all works and goes together. I'll be honest its very simple. If you can use basic tools and have a brain cell or two. Sorted. This box has an issue with second gear. Literally can't select it past 6k Rpm. Also the box whines/growls at low speed. I would probably be in trouble if my wife wasn't in bed for messing up kitchen table. Well it has a protector on be fine. Here is box in pulled apart. I didn't disassemble the countershaft because I have no need to. I pulled the mainshaft apart to acquire my replacement 4th gear for the gearbox thats in the car now. Here it is looks to be in very good condition. You can see here the damage from grinding reverse by not stopping fully before selecting. also the box is noise at low speeds. The input bearing has physical damage and also sounds as rough as a stegosaurus's sphincter! Also the ns diff bearing sounds rough. I'm Suprised cus there flipping huuuuuge! check video I dunno how to embed it so done it old school. https://youtu.be/NSU566P3mrY1 point

Yep, I'm hoping so. Could even be a supercharger in the pipeline.....But that won't be for a while as I wanna enjoy each different stage1 point

I agree with philgor the garage I work in charges £52 an hour labour so £80 to fit coilovers and lca's is a bargain I reckon1 point
-
£80, that's bloody cheap for the work that needs to be done, when I was working in a car garage (couple of years ago now, now work on hgv's) we charged 150 for fitting lowering springs to an astra, and he supplied them as well!1 point

Perfect weather for some bodywork today. Shuffled the MB6 over so the Beemer could get on the driveway. C Could've gone all the way in (oh yes!) but then I wouldn't have been able to open the door. This is the worst part of the car for me. This annoying bit of damage where someone hit the car prior to my ownership. I've been looking at replacement panels but then I thought, why not just pull it myself? Got the slam panel off no problem. Everything else looked fine under it. Kidney grills off, kinda looks like some mad drift missile now. I bit of pulling and hammering later (oh yes x2!) and it's like new again! Like nothing ever happened. Except when you look closely and see the grills aren't totally flush still. Oh well.1 point

Have to wait and see... but I'm definitely upgrading the brakes first! Took one of the rear wheels off because it was caked in brake dust (was like this when I bought them) and then I noticed the Pirates Black. I had to take some photos From these photos, you can now see why I want a full respray1 point

Total transformation! Looks even better now. I think you should get a nice chunk of money saved up and wait for the day some Meisters appear for sale.1 point

Thanks again for the kind comments I am so so chuffed with my car now. I have always loved the car but I didn't like what was on it, like the old wheels for example and other bits and bobs... Once I sorted out the brakes (going for MTEC disc and Mintex pads on the next pay day) I think I will start saving for PROPER coilovers. I just feel I need to go for something decent. I got good tyres, will be having good brakes but sh*t coilovers?1 point

Got these for cheap off eBay. Should be with me on the 27th, then they'll be going on immediately. Just need to get smoked front indicators and some halo headlights now...1 point

Set about sorting the crusty engine bay today. I stripped everything off and cleaned it all down. Then following the trend set on my deck ground all the rust off the front cross member and blacked it all. Also ground rust out of front chassis legs and painted them. Repainted the block aswell. Overall quite happy with the outcome looks decent. Put new rad stay and all new bolts in. Bumper is chucked on for now ran out of time. Oh no Sydney seagulls aerial bombardment1 point
