  1. Ok i guess its time to put a build thread together sadly there are no surviving pictures of the start of the story but ill fill in as best as i can about 2 years ago after a friend convinced me to buy a VTi-S sadly that car had to be commited to the scrapyard in the sky after a little crump (cough.... too fast on a wet road....cough.... lesson learned) and for the life of me i cant remember where i saved the pictures of it >< . however in order to save as much of it as possible we found a rolling shell that was for sale for £250 and a mate of mine kindly went and picked it up and took it back to his workshop. i got really lucky with the shell as it had the full leather interior most of the interior trim carbon wrapped already, Koni shocks and springs and a 2.5" Mongoose catback hanging from the underside! (apparently the guy selling the car couldnt get the exhaust off the car so he left it there O.o ) in the next stage sadly i was stuck about 200 miles away from the car and wasnt able to work on it myself and as a result i could never have done it without some help from 2 really good mates in Inverness, Jamie Love and Sean Mackintosh who stripped the vti-s and dropped the engine and electrics into the new shell. the next time i saw the car they told me that scicilian bonnet was a bit tatty so they had put the pirate black bonnet on, i wasnt so sure about it untill i saw it and realised they had also put the vti-s kit and the black spoiler on it and i loved the colour combination! so here it is, as it was back then just after it was finnished and just a little over a year ago sitting on the koni suspension so the next thing to be done was coilovers. i decided to go all the way and so far its the only really expensive bit ive bought for the car.... MeisterR's! and boy did i make the right decision, totaly transformed the way it goes round corners and still the best thing I've done to the car so far. next thing to get done was intake and a mate sold me his AEM short arm really cheap so that was and easy choice on it goes! next thing to happen was that some stupid bint drove into the back of me and the insurance w****rs wrote off the civic..... however as luck would have it they didnt see any salvage value in the car so they gave it back to me with a payout of what they saw the value of the car as and 12quid later i had a new rear bumper from a breakers yard complete with a 1.4i badge on the back of it still not sure if ill be leaving it there or not but its kinda fun for now when aresholes in audi's think its a 1.4 And that was all for a while, untill the start of this year when i had the time to take a week and give it some love. i started with a basic service as it hadn't been done for a while. so pluggs oil change dizzy cap and rotor arm (dizzy cap was cracked and probably the origonal one) this was all fine untill i was taking the dizzy cap off and the casing on the Dizzy broke off around the bolt so that was an hour spent swapping the guts of my dizzy into the casing from a b****red dizzy that my mate had in the back of his shed next on the list was the front wishbones as this was starting to get a bit worrying (and i hadn't wanted to drop the coilovers down properly untill this was sorted) Before so new wishbones went on and the coilovers were wound down to about a 20mm drop (still fiddling with them so this is defiantly not going to be the final height) After while i was there and it was good weather i decided to tackle the carpeting in the boot that had been p**sing me off as it was constantly falling off and getting in the way so.... Weight Reduction! and finnaly for this bout of work i picked up a new shiny thing from Unit6 spares in perth on my way home DC2 Strut brace! Anyway.... thats all for now, hope you enjoy and ill be adding more to the build as time goes on (probably fairly slow progress though as its my daily driver and I'm a broke student lol) To Do list: 1. Poly bushes for the rear LCA's ive got and get them fit. ------------------------------------------- Ordered! 2. Find and Fix the source of the knocking thats comming from the front suspension --------- Tracking done which eliminated all 3 of these 3. Fix Fog lights and get surrounds for them 4. Fix healdight washers 5. Strip and refurb breaks 6. Better Tires 7. Dechrome grill/rear plate holder and headlights 8. Paint Rocker Cover 9. book it into a body shop to get everything tidied up and get all the panels/bumpers lined up properly 10. (distant future....... PlastiDip!) Very distant future...... 1. Exhaust manifold 2. Inlet manifold 3. Full Bracing 4. S80 4.7 gearbox 5. Wheels (undecided what yet)

  6. Got back from a 20 mile drive aaand my wheels are no longer white... So, now I'm not sure if I want to do the multi-spokes in white. I'm thinking of Tom's idea. Satin bronze

  7. ok, all credit for finding this goes to DaveMB2, he told me about this company on Sunday at the Scottish meet, but i felt it needed to be listed in here www.Strong-flex.eu i spent ages looking for bushes for my MB6 and these guys do all of them from what i can tell, and the MB's are actually listed on the website and there's diagrams with all of the parts so its dead easy to figure out which ones are the right ones if you are only looking for specific bushes and not the full kit only thing worth noting that I've noticed is that the rear ARB on the diagram appears to be the MGZS ARB so you would need to check with them before you bought ARB bushes

  8. There really good price delivered.. i wouldn't have bothered otherwise. Arrived within a week with special grease too. No squeaks yet. They did c**k up my front arb bushes tho. Sent wrong size. Was cool cus My mate reemed them out on a pillar drill and about lost his fingers. Filmed it as well cus it was all a bit sketchy.

  16. Thanks guys. Videos will likely come around Japfest time. The exhaust is too bassy for my phone to pick up from inside the car.

  17. I'm worried that once I take the MB3's bumper off, it'll never go back on. It's mostly zip-tied in place on that corner now, most of the bolts and screws are missing.

Hopefully someone will confirm it!

  27. Just attacked the rest of the system. Battery and tray out to disconnect the rest of the pipes and whip them out (and strut brace off to get pipes out of the way), then glove box out to take the evaporater out and change the pollen filter at the same time. Another 3kg to add to the list. Now all that's left is the dryer bit that's near the screen wash bottle, coz i think the bumper had to come off to get t to it?

  29. Aaaaand a long overdue update! First things first the audio is fitted, no pictures of this because it all looks.. well, stock? Which is what I wanted from the sound system. The full speclist of my audio goes: BMW Professional MP3 CD Headunit recoded to Hi-Fi (the base system has a weird EQ on it that compensates for the lack of tweeters it has) Alpine front component speakers with alpine tweeters (x2) New door trims for both front doors with tweeter grilles (x2) Harman Kardon Logic 7 8.5" Underseat Subwoofers (x2) Alpine 4 channel amp for front components and underseat subwoofers. Non audio but still interior mods: CREE interior bulbs.. 14 of them! - Here but not fitted. Digital speedo coded into the central speedo display which is GPS accurate, brilliant for hooning and makes me feel like I'm in a racing game... Biggest recent mod that arrived today (Ignore the messy bed): Genuine BMW E90 Facelift angel eye headlights, ordered CREE LED angel eyes so when they arrive (typical me forgetting it was a four day weekend so Tuesday!) then they'll get fitted. That's progress for now, thanks for reading.

  30. yeh i just ment that the ARB was a bit ambiguous in the diagram so it would be best to check with them which one it is exactly before you order anything

  31. ^^ they are expensive but sooooo worth it, i cant speak for any other coilovers as these are the only ones I've ever had but they were highly recommended by various people before i got them

  35. Cheers bud, I'm gutted for you, I intend to be parking a long way from the kerbs but it is difficult in those side streets, I know I've hit one there before. Yes I have locking nuts, although they are my old ones which need replacing so I'm trying to find some neo-chrome ones with a ball seat fitment, not easy. Thanks mate, they're not perfect but I'm happy with them, yes filler primer, it just helps fill in any imperfections to get a smoother finish. I think I only hit these once before but they used to be on Jon's car which his wife used as a daily. *Crunch*

  36. Loved that video mate. . She goes really well for a 1.5..I would say white wheels definitely for your car mate. . Those speedlines are looking nice. . If only they were 15" it would be perfect. . Why did they get dirty so quickly. . Mine look ok even after 60 miles and I just washed them at jet wash and brand new again

  46. Thanks I filled it with Super last night for the first time, reset the ECU and took it out for a bit of spin. It's perfect. Through the residential areas it's pretty silent. Over 4,500rpm there's def a more pronounced growl, but over 6,000 that's where it really comes alive. Def money well spent.

  47. Give it a few extra coats of lacquer too, it'll darken the colour a bit more. Also I couldn't resist taking a couple of pictures whilst I went out for food.
    1 point
  48. I was a bit dubious about sanding the colour too but aslong as you get a good few colour coats down, then as grant said 1500 wet n dry (keep it really wet! Very VERY lightly rub over just to A. Get a smooth surface for lacquer to sit on and B. to remove any gloss finish from the colour so the lacquer adheres properly!!Good few coats of lacquer after that but make sure its proper clean before any paint is put down!! I brake clean it, rub with blue tissue then brake clean again then air line to blow it all off bone dry!! give it a crack anyone who weary of it... If you have something that NEEDS painting instead of just getting it done pro have a go first... Then if it goes wrong a pro can still do it anyway lol
