  1. So, as I've been ill recently (had a heart attack while working in the garage) I'm not allowed to work on my cars until I recover. Well, decided to build the suspension on the MX5 (aka Mindy), fit the brake discs and calipers, oh and respray the car! Not the real one of course! I was lucky to get two identical models of the MX5 for my Christmas (one from Gayle and the other from my eldest stepdaughter Jacklyn and her husband Marc) so decided to chill out and build one of them. Model is 1/24 scale by Tamiya Got some parts painted prior to building. Brake discs with red calipers, exhaust, shocks with red springs (slight deviation from the instructions but just my preference). Also did front and rear wishbones, front rear subframes and all other parts. Detailed the underbody tub, so exhaust, petrol tank , bottom of engine etc all done. Rear suspension etc all ready to build Front suspension all built and added to tub. Rear all built and ready to fit Interior painted and put together. Really proud of my wee wood look gear knob! Mixed various colours to try and get the right look! The body required sanding down with fine wet and dry as there were a lot of casting marks that I wasn't happy with. Decided to buy proper "Mazda Classic red" paint from Halfords (part of my ocd thingy!) Resprayed the body, but not too happy with the finish so that will be getting done again. Even though I used paint prep wipes, and a plastic primer, the paint seems to have reacted with the plastic so truned out pants (well, in my opinion anyways!) so deffo redoing that. Final pics are of the completed model. When I build the second one, I'm going to use a different glue too as the one I have is also crap, quite stringy. Anyway, totally enjoyed building this, really theraputic. Looking forward to the second one! Oh, I haven't put any of the number plate decals on as I'm making my own (which will be same as Mindys!)

  3. Happy Christmas everyone! Hope it's been a good one
  4. Any one good at photo shop? Thinking a nice rover kingfisher green for my alloys I do like to be different
  5. Spotted this in St hellier today (we're on hols hete). Silver vti deck, vtis mid spoler and kit, looked really clean. Anyone from here?
  6. So, been a bit down lately due to pressures/hassles at work and been a grumpy old git to say the least. Gayle reckoned what i needed was another project! I've wanted a MK1 MX5 since the day they were launched (was at the car show in Glasgow SECC when they unveiled it) and when the cover came off and I saw this sweet little red sports car I fell in love! Said there and then I have to have one of these one day, but I was a teenager back then with empty pockets! Roll on 29 years later and now I'm older (still with empty pockets, least i am after buying her!) and finally I've got one!! Always wanted a mk1, but did put deposit down on a mk2 in a garage around 7 years ago. Sadly my then wife (Dawn) became seriously ill so we cancelled going down to test it/buy it and just forgot about getting an MX5. Lost Dawn to cancer 3 years later Original plan was to buy one that needed a full restoration, but as i don't possess any welding skills that plan changed. After a lot of good advice from members in here, we upped our budget and went to view a few more cars. Most were bodged repairs and nothing like described, until we found this one in Stirling, Scotland. She's red (obviously), 1.6 UK car with 90K on the clock. 10 months MOT. There isn't a service history book, but all the old mots are there and receipts for various work done. The chap selling her didn't want to let her go, but was under instruction from his wife to buy a more family friendly classic car! She has had the rear sills done before, drivers side is a tidy enough job and solid (just the black paint that's not right), passenger side is still solid but repair is showing signs of rust. Engine wise, she's great! Engine sounds sweet, and pulls well in every gear. Suspension wise, she needs an overhall. Interior is basic but (now) clean and tidy. Hood is shot, but Gayle went straight onto ebay and found a brand new hood that the seller has had lying around for a couple of years for £120! result! She bought it, then we had another road trip to Aberdeen to go collect it. Hood is mint and getting fitted this weekend! I have noticed when at speeds of 70mph upwards, she has a horrible vibration which is coming from the front. It shakes through the car, and if at lower speeds (60mph) we go over any bumps in road, it shakes up through the steering wheel which deffo isn't right. Unfortunately during the test drive there were no roads we could get her up to anything over 30 - 40mph so this only came to light on the way home. But hopefully the work i'm planning should resolve these issues. So Plans are: Fit the new hood Replace all 4 shocks and springs Replace upper/lower wishbones (they look ok, just grubby, but I want to replace all bushes so might aswell just change the whole lot.) Replace wheels/tyres with dished BBS rims Full service including timing belt/fan belt etc. New front and rear brakes (rears have just had brand new calipers fitted) Full custom interior retrim in either full leather or half leather/alcantara Full respray, looking to go for a nice metal flake red! Will also be taking it to BorderMX5 before the paint to have both rear sills repaired professionally/correctly. Think we should be able to get through the next mot with them but not chancing it any longer than that. Engine and engine bay fully detailed. Accessories, such as chrome/stainless steel boot rack, new stereo (just replaced the one that was there for a Pioneer that I had lying around in the garage). Will be a long term project, but want to fully replace as much as we can as we go along for brand new/renovated parts. End goal is to have one very mint mk1 MX5. After cleaning her interior up to my standards, Gayle said "oh look, the suns out!" Which roughly translated means "time for a run in Mindy with the top down!" lol Got some pics when we were out. Totally love this wee car! She's not perfect, but she's ours and makes me happy! First ever convertible I've ever owned, and loving it! Don't worry though, DD isn't going anywhere! Just taking a break from her for a wee while as she needs MOT'd and a new front caliper. Plan is when I get the spraying gear all sorted out to respray the mx5 , I'll be doing DD's front end at the same time. So all's good!

  9. So, was thinking today just how long Civic5 has been around (kept thinking it was around 7 years). April 2018 was Civic5's 10th birthday! Can't believe we've been online 10years now, quite an achievement for a one make/one model car forum and club! We've seen quite a lot of big Honda forums and other car forums disappear in that time so makes it even more special that as a small club we're still here! It's a testiment to the dedicated team we've had through the years (some gone, some still here) and to the current team we have now and the work and time they put into this club. It's also due to the excellent members we have here, which is more like an extended family than a car enthusiasts club. Obviously the forum isn't quite as busy as it was in its hey-day but the fact we're still going, still getting new members joining regularly and still getting people saying how useful and friendly they find our wee forum and club makes it feel special. So we hope you all wish Civic5 a very happy birthday!
  10. Anyone know if the retractable parcel shelf from a deck fits in a 5 door MB?
  11. I've been trying to get the two screws at the top of the ashtray mount for months now, I'd turn the screwdriver left (righty tighty lefty loosy) and it would just jump out of the screw.. Today I was ranting about it to my girlfriend and she tells me: "have you tried turning it right?" I look at her like "wut?" I mean righty tighty lefty loosy right? Well not today. I tried turning the screws right and it worked.. it bloody WORKED! I've been trying to undo those screws, stripping them out for months. when all I had to do was turn the screwdriver right.. I'm not even mad..
  12. Spotted this near ocean terminal. Green mb6, lowered, bronze alloys, stainless exhaust. Didnt catch the rdg nut looked mint! Anyone here?
  13. Hi all, My name is Twan, 26 years old. I'm an automotive student. I've bought this Aerodeck a month ago and i'm having fun working on it. Wondering if this forum is still active and if there are perhaps other Dutch members. Glad I found the forum though, it has already proved helpful in a few research occasions. When I started studying I sold my car (used to own a BMW 3-series) because I was sure I wouldn't be able to afford that car anymore. Soon enough though my hands were itching and I wanted a car that was easy to work on and parts should be inexpensive and readily available. Hello Honda! As a tall person I wasn't digging the EK's but the 5 door hatchbacks seemed more my thing. My aim is to learn about the car and to have a more practical approach to some of the classes I study at school. I like the engineering part but I also love getting my hands dirty. I bought myself an Aerodeck with around 220.000 km on the D15Z8. It had a little work to be done and I've made pretty good progress in the past month. First thing was thorough inspection and treatment of rust. The car has little to no rust in the rear, just some surface spots up front. The underside had a couple small holes in it which I cut out and welded some new material in place. Upon removing left front panel there was a tonne of dirt coming out which made me wonder if the previous owner was into offroading. The wiring harness from car to door was also unfortunately cut by one of the previous owners. After the rust was taken care of I gave the car a brakes refresh front and back. Last but not least all fluids and filters were refreshed. I looked into the engine through the spark plug holes with an endoscope and the cylinder and walls looked pretty good. I've also managed to rearrange some of the wiring in my door to get the speaker to work again, the central locking mechanism for the drivers side seems stuck so I'll have to fix that. Only other thing to find out is a humming/droning noise i hear when driving 70-120 km/h so I suspect a wheel bearing might be going out. Today I found some OEM rear roof speakers for the car and installed those and I've replaced the door moldings which should keep as much water as possible out of my doors. If the car proves to be trustworthy I'm going to save up for some coilovers, rims and alignment. In the meantime there is enough crap the previous owners messed up that I'm planning to fix and clean the inside of the car thoroughly.
  14. Low life scum trying to steal a motorbike and taking it out on a civic ma ( I think). Hope it's nobody from here https://www.facebook.com/groups/TourisTTrophy/permalink/1753987328014625/
  15. As above, anybody doing anything exciting this year? Now the year long January is out of the way, how do you think 2018 is stacking up so far and what have you all got planned for the months ahead? I've just booked myself a track day at Spa in October, I'll do a few shows and hopefully treat the cars to some parts too! My plan is to be broke....a lot
  16. Spotted this on eBay, but found it on auto trader first. Anyone recognise it? Its only 10 mins from me and I've never seen it! Looks OK but front fogs look weird? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263454819151
  17. Just found this useful info on Type accord posted by smokingman http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/24255-new-mot-may-18/#entry252409 Major changes to the MOT test on 20th of May 2018Some of you may have already heard that there are big changes coming to the MOT test this May. Here are just a few of the biggest changes that are most likely to affect you. Please take these with a pinch of salt as nothing will be finalised until the end of April and will probably still be subject to change after that date. Remember it will take your MOT tester time to get up to speed with these too!So...Advisories are being replaced with minor fails. These are all pre written & approved by DVSA. You will still get a pass but they will be noted on your test certificate. Manual advisories are still being worked out but may disappear completely. Those of you who have changed your standard headlight bulbs for HID's will now get a major fail even if the aim is correct. It has always been an offence to fit HID bulbs to halogen headlamps so the MOT is now in line with that.Reverse lights are now part of the MOT for any car registered from 1st September 2009 (59 plate onwards). Daytime running lamps (DRL's) & front fog lamps must work on vehicles registered from March 2018 (18 plate onwards).Engine Management Light is now a major fail. It must come on with the ignition and then turn off when the engine is started.Brake pad warning lights are a major failHandbrake with excessive travel is now a major fail. Before it would only a fail if there was no reserve travel.Contaminated (dirty) brake fluid is a major fail. Not sure how that will work as the MOT tester isn't allowed to remove the fluid cap.Oil leaks (engine, gearbox etc.) can be a major failure if they are deemed large enough. It seems they have removed the failure for tyres not being fitted according to sidewall instructions. Inner/outer or rotation incorrect.Any modifications/removal to emissions related devices, this includes DPF'S and EGR's is now a major fail.Where a DPF canister has clearly been cut open and re-welded, it will now fail.A vehicle fitted with a DPF that emits any kind of visible smoke during the metered test will now failEmissions limits for diesels registered on or after 1st of January 2014 have been reduced. All diesels will now need to pass the limit that was set by the manufacturer when the car was new. This can be found on the VIN plate. For example the current limit for your diesel car may be 1.50. That could change to as low as 0.30 with the new rules. These are just some of the bigger changes to the MOT test the average motorist is likely to be affected by. There are dozens, perhaps even over 100 changes to the actual MOT test and to the way testers record tests on the MOT computer. Please remember these are all subject to change in the coming months and remember spare a thought for your MOT tester before you say..."Well it passed like that last year!"Source - https://www.gov.uk/g...e-emission-data
  18. Can anyone on here photo shop? Was looking to see what the bm would look like lower and maybe a different colour.

  21. Hey iam here again, couldnt find my old topic tho... what happened? I just did some trackday after few years. Finally with MeisterR and everything o modded on my suspension. And iam happy. It works.. the second session was on stiffest (rear +5 to softer) and it was good. Its more oversteery. I still think its better to have 8/5 springs than 8/6 btw. I would like to test it how that works. Maybe I will try to get different springs to back, little softer. So I will post the trackday videos here and I also done some roadtrip around Bohemia with my Civic. Its a big project, so it will take time to make the documentary, but i will post it here too, so you can see how my country looks like from an MB6 seat enjoy the videos (only 2 because I ran out of brakepads )

  23. Noticed recently that members who have posted images that are hosted on photobucket now have a generic image from photobucket inserted where their own image was (like photos of cars in members project threads have been replaced with an image stating " upgrade to third party hosting"). ive been onto my own photobucket and have used the normal link for posting images in forums and it displays fine? I gather they have changed the format of the links slightly so that previously posted images now dont display? Can you take 5 mins to check photos youve posted from photobucket and if you see the "upgrade to 3rd party" image instead of your own image, try copying your images link (the one for forums) and posting it again to see if it works?
  24. the retro rides gathering is on next weekend on the 20th. is anyone from here going? I've never been before but I keep hearing lots of good things about it. today is the last day to buy the tickets online at a discounted price. but you can pay on the day too. it's in Worcester, so if anyone's about it'd be cool to meet up have a chat and what not.
