MB1 Project (updated 18/11/14) - DC2 Steering wheel
Dexter replied to sparco's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
That really sucks. I thought the laws over here in Finland sucked but that's really bad. Maybe you can put on coils right after an inspection, and then right before the next one raise it up to normal level or as close as you can. Then with all dirt there they won't notice you've installed an aftermarket set... this is how i got my non-TÜV approved front camber kit passed . But anyway very clean looking mb, like the engine bay especially! Few bother to work on a d16 bay but that looks very nice. Mugen -

So much for spring! Fun to quote myself, but glad i didn't change tires yet, unlike some of my friends! It's been like this for a couple of days which also has put a stop to my horn fixing duties. No fun playing with wires when it's -6 outside! I've got a lot going on at the moment: - fix horn - fix right rear wheel bearing - replace fuel filter - gather parts for timing belt change - look for adjustable cam gears - pass MOT There's conversation about most of these in other parts of the forum. Also i've booked a time to get my exhaust fitted: 25.4.! Hopefully i'll get the rest done before this.- 883 replies

Any experiences or recommendations about adjustable cam gears for B18C4? I'm changing the cam belt soon and thought this might be a good opportunity for an upgrade...
-
No, they have good prices?
-
Will this fit? B18C4 isn't listed there but other b-engines are so i'd guess it would work just as well. I need a oilchange soon also so this would be a pretty good deal. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FUEL-FILTER-OIL-FILTER-HONDA-INTEGRA-1-8-TYPE-R-DC2-1997-2001-B18C-/271151101225?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f21dd7529

Do i need anything else than 42200-S30-C11 (BEARING ASSY., RR. HUB UNIT) to get this done? http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection.php?block_01=17S1E01&block_02=B__1910&block_03=7801 A friend who's got the tools and skills for this will do it so i just need to gather all the necessary parts.

A very useful tool. For comparison i've got 17x8.5 ET37 with 195/40 rubber in the rear. No arch roll, and they fit with no rub. Barely. But go for 9's if you can! The front will be interesting, though.

Sure enough when holding the wheel at top and bottom and shaking it, there is a tiny amount of play. Just a bit, but noticable, compared to the other side. So i guess this is confirmed then! Thanx krzys.

I always prefer OEM but sometimes it feels like the only difference between it and ebay items are the price... but what do you think about fuel filters? OEM £40, ebay (Mapco) £20.

...and no blown fuses, and the horn works! So must be the wiring then. So did my first multimeterings but didn't find any problems... i think i need to watch some more tutorials on youtube to make sure i was using it right, and not just looking for earths or something...

Agree, at a glance you even got me fooled for a sec so i'll give you half a point for similarity. -
Okay will give it a shot!
-
Yeah, i guess better to be safe than sorry! So what else should i do on the same go, water pump i reckon, what about tensioner? Anything else? Last time i got it done at a shop as soon as i bought her, so i don't even remember what parts they replaced in the end, except that it was very thorough and cost €€€.

Okay so it's been 5 years since my last timing belt change, but i've only done 40,000km / 25,000 miles since. The question is should i change it now? Haynes recommends every 5 years. The car sees some track days each year if that makes a difference.

I've had a strange humming noise for a couple of months now, coming from the rear righthandside wheel area. It gets louder the faster i go, and has gotten a bit louder over time. I have winter tires on so they're loud to start with, but i tried on a toyo r888 and the noise didn't change. Don't think it's a caliper starting to bind, because i reckon that would create some heat? Can't be exhaust either cause then the note would change depending on revs, not speed. So i guess it's a bearing on it's way out, what do you think? Any other things i could check before ordering a new one?
-
Well that's the problem, there's only one terminal on the horn so how do i do this? Do i just connect it to + on the battery?? Don't want to break anything...

Upgrade time! Thought i'd add some aero to match the fronts. Subtle but lot better IMHO. Still working on the horn.- 883 replies

There's this box in the engine on the left hand side (facing the car). The single blue wire that goes to the left connects to the first horn. Then another blue wire goes from the first horn to the other. That's all the wiring the horns have. I bought a multimeter, now just have to figure out how to use it!

Tried to fix the horn, but in vain... more details in a topic here http://civic5.com/forum/index.php?/topic/5245-horn-not-workin/, if you think you can lend a helping hand.- 883 replies

Let's bring up an old subject, since my horn hasn't worked for a while and the MOT is apporoaching. So, the situtation is like this: - There's no sound when i press the horn buttons. Tried holding them down for a long time but no difference. I can definitely hear a click somewhere when pressing down the button, and the sound doesn't come from the steering wheel. Relay maybe? - Checked the fuse underneath the hood, was fine. - According the the workshop manual there's also a relay in the underdash fusebox. Was a pain to even get my hands there and remove the electrical connector, but i couldn't remove the relay no matter what. So don't know about this. - Then i checked the horns themselves and the wires, in case there was an accidental earth somewhere. Couldn't find one, but are these even OEM horns? They look totally different in the manual. - I wanted to hook up the horn straight into the battery to see if it's working, but there's only one terminal in the horn, connected with a flat connector, again unlike in the manual. The other wire you see here goes straight to the other horn. So can i just connect this to the + battery terminal to try it out? What about grounding? I really suck at car electrics and don't want to break anything.

Looking nice, very clean. The skirts will make such a difference. But i think you should leave the side and bumber strips black, they compliment the black grille, rims and headlight surrounds.
-
Nice one, looks quite a lot brighter!
