  1. x 2 !!! Taking the deck to the 21st century.
  2. The reason why you probably hadn't heard of the tires in the test results i posted was that they're all nordic/scandinavian spec winter tires which means they're supposed to be more capable in extreme conditions than the central europe tires the adac test covers. So if you need more traction, i'm almost 100% positive that the nordic tires will deliver more. Almost everyone uses them here instead of the central europe tires. Actually i'm pretty sure they will do the job and even better. Maybe the pic i posted distorts reality a bit, it's not always like that over here . I live in the south close to the sea and the weather can go from +5 to -25, to heavy snow, to slush, to black ice, and back to dry roads within one week. I've also used my conti's on dirt roads, as well as highway cruising in the summer and they've worked fine on all surfaces and conditions. Of course i prefer proper summer tires like Falken's etc. but high-end nordic compound studless winter tires are in practice very capable all-season tires. Now I wouldn't go vtecing through the twisties in the rain, but i think you get my point. I havent' noticed much difference in FWD cars in snow, conditions imho are the biggest factor. I used to have a 1.4 deck with studded tires (and without LSD naturally) before my MC2, and i think it was just as good in the snow, minus the ABS which i think is pretty useful when slippery. But vtec + snow + massive understeer can be quite a lot of fun, so i'd have to say MC2 is the best winter car i've had so far!
  3. Better late than never, man! I just didn't notice this conversation earlier. But anyway i'd go for the Continentals, they've worked fine with me. As for the 50 vs 55 profile, i was told that fatter is better but how much, no idea. But if you want top of the line i'm sure you can order any tire online, ebay for example, unless for some reason the company in question won't ship to Serbia?
  4. Hi, i live in Finland and yes, sometimes we get some snow: I have a 1.8 deck and never had problems driving in winter (expect getting occasionally stuck in deep snow, because low! ), and i go snowboarding a lot. I have 195/55 Continental ContiVikingContact 3's which were a test winner when i bought them 4 years ago, and they're still in good shape. So my advice would be to just buy really good tires. Many people over here use studded tires which grip even better, but wear out faster, so i've always preferred studless. And as far as i know studded tires are banned in most european countries because of road wear. Here are the scores of a winter tire test (studless) this year from a respected finnish tech magazine (Tekniikan Maailma): Michelin X-Ice XI3, 7,6 Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, 7,5 Bridgestone Blizzak WS70, 7,2 Pirelli Icecontrol Arvosana, 7,2 Continental ContiViking Contact 5, 7,0 Vredestein Nord-Trac 2, 6,8 Debica Frigo 2, 6,6 Fulda Montero 3, 6,5 Hope this helps.
  5. Nice amount of entries, but i had decided before the vote even started. And thanks Nikh for doing the nomination, saved me from a bit of typing!
  6. People say it's one of the best mods you can put on a deck, there's many topics here in civic5 about that. Ofcourse personally i don't even have one yet... but it's on the list!
  7. Thanks, it sure took a lot more effort than i thought... and fingernails! And i did a lot of things the hard way, trying to figure out the correct sandpaper/drill bit to use at each point and learning the best techniques for tricky spots. But i guess you just gotta pay your dues. It didn't help that at times the temperature dropped below zero! Next time i'm refurbing wheels, i'll make sure it's summer .
  8. Start! Finish! Some before and after shots: I put them on yesterday, lifted the front 15mm to winter height and took her for a wash. When i rolled out, it was snowing. Talk about proper timing! Or more specifically in this case, in the nick of time . Was too dark for photos, will take some later. But they do look quite nice... new rims are always new rims, even when they're used! Maybe the best and most satisfying mod car for any car, any time .
  9. True, i bought Recaro rails immediatly when found a set on ebay (2 years ago) even though i don't even own seats yet!
  10. Thanks krzys but i'll be sure to keep my eyes open this time! I have a few decks in mind worthy of a win so might even nominate someone this time
  11. : what could possibly come in 3 unmarked white boxes... lug nuts, centre caps, adult toys...
  12. I missed this somehow, guess was too busy polishing wheels or something. But doesn't matter, the win went to the right person! Congrats james, like somebody said, consistency pays off
  13. Now after 3 days/evenings of polishing, i have to tell you that "not a lot of work" can sure take a long time! 2 finished, 2 to go.
  14. Nice job. Have heard about that stuff, might just have to buy myself a can as well now that i've seen how handy it is.
  15. I'm sure it's better with a 2.5", but i think it might be even a wee bit faster with "only" 2.25"
  16. I think 2.5" might be slightly oversized for our 170hp b18c4's. The reason is you might not get optimum power and/or torque because if the pipe is too big, you lose backpressure, and the exhausts won't exit the system as fast as they could. I know many people are running 2.5" exhausts and are very satisfied with them, this is just based on my research here on civic5 and elsewhere as well. I've still got stock but will try out a compromise 2.5" mani/cat to 2.25" pipe probably next year.
  17. Thanks fyfie. German ebay, type in nabenknappe or nabendeckel or felgendeckel and the cornucopia will open. And luckily no snow yet!
  18. Loved that car. Car of the year 2012 if i remember correctly? Actually i was *this* close of buying the same wheels (but in black with polished lip) just 2 weeks ago, but then found a deal on something else. But any way great choice! One of the best looking yet affordable wheels at the moment imho. Just love that deep dish and old school style... Gonna look great on your ride.... what size are you going for?
  19. Sweet looking ride, man. Like the eyebrows, a not too common mod and give it a nice sinister look... If i'd buy new coilovers, i'd go for MeisterR's straight away. Heard only positive stuff about them. Just steer clear from H&R! I have them... and also lots of problems with them. Sneak peek?
  20. The mailman brought some goodies today: The centre caps fit nice and snug and the ngk's i've good experience with. But most importantly got the wheels rebored today. So the total cost for my new winter wheels is: Wheels 100€ Petrol to get them 60€ Centre caps 30€ Centre bore re-bore 60€ total: 250€ / 210£ Not bad, i think. Still haven't testfitted them with the new bore but the guy who made it assured it'll be perfect, or he'll do them again for free. This weekend i think i'm going to schedule some polishing...
