  1. Easy peasy instructions here : http://civic5.com/forum/topic/8084-how-toreset-your-ecu-honda-civic-mambmc/ I can't help with locating the wiring harness but I would be interested in hearing all about the ECU cheat method.
  2. Hi and welcome to Civic5 , I have symptoms identical to yours bar the rattle....friends familiar with Honda's tell me to avoid non OEM CAT's so what I intend doing for the MOT is this : Knock the CEL (Check engine light) off and reset the fuel values before I present my MB2 1.4 for MOT Once the MOT is done and dusted I'll fit a Lambda spacer (a spacer keeps the sensor away from the bad emissions)...... The spacer could save me forking out for a genuine CAT and/or downstream Lambda sensor (they do tend to get sluggish over the years) If you need us to elaborate just shout.
  3. 12.6 volts is what you should expect at the bulb plug (engine not running). Be sure to check for any plug resistance that may have occurred over the years. Fingers crossed you do indeed have a voltage drop problem.
  4. When it comes to hack's.....the VW Passat estate takes some beating.....the 1.9 Tdi is reliable as sin but it ain't no ball of fire.
  5. How about an affordable executive tractor : http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201510208007015?make=honda&search-target=usedcars&postcode=NW10%208NU&sort=default&radius=1500&searchcontext=default&page=1&onesearchad=used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew&logcode=p
  6. Have you considered rewriting the ad making no mention of mods or the minor faults (an image of the bumper scuffing would be advantageous) .....pointing out it had a brace fitted will have most punters thinking it was rallied so it may be best to throw a rug in the boot to cover up the tell tale signs. Your ad is perfect for a Site like this but you need to be highlighting the mileage and reliability if you want to attract regular punters through regular advertising......IMO Autotrader is your best bet.....you could easily ask for £650 with a full 12 months MOT. You sound like a nice honest chap so I wish you luck with shifting your decent motor P.S. if you cant supply proof of cam belt change.....might be an idea to write date and mileage of belt change on the fuse box cover.....Tipex should be fine.
  7. Another chrome lover here. My first car was identical to this one : http://carsofextinction.com/1965-Ford-Corsair-1500-GT.php
  8. Thanks for the brilliant link Philgor
  9. First off....fair dues to Iain for offering a car that can easily be fixed by a DIY enthusiast Craig, have you considered hiring a car transporter ? http://www.pgtrailerhirescotland.co.uk/car-transporter.html BTW a bottle of Scotland's finest should put a well deserved smile on Iain's face.
  10. Perfick ......nothing as bad as a cold car.
  11. Cabin fan setting 3 does dissipate a lot of heat so things will improve a little when you replace the resistor pack. (settings 1 and 2 are best during cold snaps) You could also consider fitting a higher rated stat for the cold Months.....back flushing the interior rad should also help. If you're struggling to find the blanking plate that's missing.........you could use cardboard as a stop gap. Good luck with getting a bit of heat into your car despite the extreme conditions
  12. Hope your fix was the lesser of the evils

    Creaking away

I can easily understand the attraction and addiction to the rapid models Krzys.....must be an age thing because I always drove cars that could perform when asked but I now prefer the softer models. Anyway, got my car back minus squeak, engine quieter, cam kit fitted.....cushty
  15. Stiff competition ! a well deserved win Grant .....keep up the good work.

    Creaking away

I had to bargain like a Yorkshire man to get all the work mentioned above for £400.....work begins Wednesday. The diagnosis you guys came up with was bang on the money.....nice one Maybe the Government should issue a warning telling folk to avoid Civic's seeing as they're so addictive

    Creaking away

Yep I'll definitely be having both joints done Jay. After sitting down with a coffee and a fag.....I've decided to replace the squeaky offenders, cam belt, water pump, anti-freeze, engine oil and filter. If I get all that work done for under £350 I'll gladly part with the greenbacks.... a nice bottle of whisky (or indeed whiskey) might soften my friend the mechanic enough.

    Creaking away

Music to my ears Simon .....if the undercarriage is still rust free I'll not mind sinking a few bob into a car I've come to like a lot... I suppose I'm preaching to the converted when I say my car has personality. Thanks for putting my mind at ease

    Creaking away

Hi all, My MB2 has started squeaking and moaning, I physically can't get under a car so I'll have a mechanic take a look on Monday. Symptoms : my drivers side front suspension creaks and groans when I go over speed humps and even creaks when I push the suspension down........I also hear groans when I turn the steering at stand still. I'm hoping for the cheapest fix possible but it sounds like an expensive groan ?....only started squeaking badly over the last 20 miles or so....... got the car as a cheap runabout ........but I've come to love the sweet little 1.4 auto.....amazing ! considering I spent the last 20 yrs. driving new cars. I What do you think ?
  20. My 1.4S auto returns 25/30 mpg through London traffic......the 1.6 may be similar or a tad less ?
  21. As a general rule of thumb...... torque convertor autos are 15/20% less efficient than their manual counterparts.
  22. A man of my own heart I had a shed load of work carried out on my car when I first got it but I didn't get any paperwork.....suits me fine.
