COTM April 2017 - Jayhoath83 is the winner!
Gel replied to Dave's topic in Car of the Month 2017 Winners
Well done Jay -
If your car is inclined to run hot when driven hard I'd be looking at the radiator first because it'll cost you nothing to inspect and back flush the radiator. You can have any Garage check for CO2 in your cooling system.....shouldn't cost much . Fingers crossed it's not too serious

Excellent motor and planned mods
-
Could also be a faulty ignition switch ?

Hi and welcome to Civic5 , might be better to remove the thermostat.....should lessen the pressure until it suits you to repair properly.
-
Just watched one of your runs ....yep, you're a natural

Welcome to Civic5 Danoteg ..........I clocked up close on 2,000 miles touring round ROI 2 years back.....never spotted as much as one Deck but saw millions of MB's....seems they're rarer than hens teeth. Be sure to enjoy improving the Deck.

Whatta impressive motor and driving ....he he my adrenalin was running just watching the videos.

My clean bill of health was issued after fitting a track rod end and tracking.....my exhaust also needed tightening up to stop the squeaking on drive take up. My trusty MB2 isn't A1 in any respect but I would describe it a 80% good.....no rust TBG. The Cortina was up on a lift so wasn't suitable for photographing. One of the mechanics I spoke with has shoe-horned a Sierra Cosworth engine (480 bhp) into an immaculate MK 1 Escort....he's even fitted a LSD....promises to be a lethal weapon...........cash is all that is holding up the finished lethal weapon.

My MB2 1.4 auto passed it's test without advisories........yippee Only cost £140.....that's cheap motoring at it's best. Whilst hanging about the garage I had a good look at a Ford Cortina MK1 1500 Super that's being renovated, the bodywork and paint finish was superior to an original fresh from Dagenham......Tom, you'd love all the lovely chrome Happy Gel

12 months MOT with no advisories for £153 .....excellent result

Don't give up just yet....it's a doddle to reset the ECU and there's every chance the reset will cure your cutting out problem.
-
Excellent looking craft
-
If the throttle body is no longer the issue.......re-setting your ECU should see your engine ticking over circa 750 RPM.

An online parts finder (1stchoice) sourced numerous quotes between £32 - £54 but my local Scrapper could have sold me an ignition switch for £20. I was weary about dismantling my switch (thinking the ball bearings or spring would fly away)......once dismantled it was quite easy to clean the contacts.....I used a "comm stick" (suitable for cleaning motor commutators) but others often use a pencil eraser. Don't ya just love cars you can actually mend yourself

Terrible news Dave
-
It's a £500 car considering it needs a re-spray.
