  1. think you'll find mate it might be me i expressed my opinion a long time ago and have kept against it. its mainly because people from Facebook who see the COTM competition come on, do a build thread, from start to finish in about 4 posts and enter. yes you may have done a lot of work on your car, but it feels like you've just come along for the food rather than the party :/ the people i've met on here have been great and i enjoy having a banter. i think if your car is good enough or you have really put yourself out to get work done, or have done work yourself on it rather than getting a garage to do it deserves some recognition. i have literally done all the work i can myself with the help from friends and started with hardly any knowledge about cars to knowing quite a lot from what i have acheived. i'm not blaming anyone on here, its your views and this is mine

  2. I've always just voted for the car that I think looks the best or has something interesting about it. I don't look at if it's a self-entry or if I'm friends with the owner or not. It's Car Of The Month not Personality Of The Month. Maybe POTM should be a thing?

  3. Just voted for a self entry! Can believe people are getting up set about this! It's a bit of fun and your taking it like its the end of the world! I've entered my car loads of times and never had 1 vote! Do I care No! As I know others peoples cars and better than mine and big enough to except it

  4. Ok just read thourgh the posts here and i have to admit a lot of good points from very different perspectives. First of all i'd like to point out that this whole "war" started out with nothing more than Tom giving his personal opinion on how he votes, not how everybody should. How i see this it's ended up in nothing more than a friendly disagreement. Civic5 is probably the friendliest forum i have ever visited, to the point that sometimes i even wish people would be just a bit more provocative to spice things up a bit! Sure people have different opinions and personal rules about how they vote. I very, very rarely nominate anyone, but still love to pick my vote out of the selection of different m's present each month. If i never would be nominated, i probably would do it myself at some point when i feel like my car is good enough to deserve being recognised. But i agree that it is very rewarding when somebody nominates your car, a privilege which i've had a couple of times during my 5 year career at civic5. But i have my own rules too, when voting. I never have voted for my own car. I usually go for a deck, because i have a deck because decks just look better (and the hatch guys just haven't realised it yet!!! ). For me stance and wheels are a lot more important than a bad a*s engine swap... probably because i don't have one, because i lack the skill & £££ !!! But how other people vote is totally up to them, it doesn't bother me. People should be allowed to express their opinions without others getting offended, isn't that what this forum is all about! The coolest thing about modding cars is that everybody does it their own way. Sure theres a lot on influence one way or another but in the end it's the owner who chooses his mods and style and ends up with the best looking car, for him. And i think the same should go for the car of the month competion: decide for yourself what i takes to win the title, be it being recognised by others or just by simply being the best car that month.

  5. Not much else to do in Swindon other than go to the gym and work on the car I can't weld and my metal fabrication skills are sketchy at best, but I do like wiring. My dash loom wasn't great but this new direction for the wiring will make life easier in the long run and so much cleaner!!! Cheers. Just wish I had more time on the car, really want to get this into paint by Jan 2015 and assembled for next summer!

  6. Okay, that time of year again.....an update! After deciding that I should wait for all the brackets and mounts for the chassis to turn up before I go too mad on routing pipes etc, I decided to get back to what I can do, the electrics. I found a site in the US that sells the majority of the engine plugs and ordered a set for a stock engine. Knowing I most probably not need most of the intake plugs, I thought it best just to have them in case rather than place a second order (postage, import etc etc.) only one missing was the alternator, which is a stock Denso plug and that was easy to find in the UK. I later found out how to strip the plugs and that 90% come from the same company and use the same pins!!!! I now have a source for just the pins & seals (wish I'd found that sooner so I didn't order $100 worth of pins and plugs, never mind ) On to the loom. Working from the back to the front, started with the longest run first. This meant going up into the tail gate for the number plate light, high level brake light and then to the tail lights. I'm using all the old plugs but with new wire, pins and seals (where needed) Sorry for some of the crap pics, was in bit of a rush! Number plate light wiring, runs down the inside of the rear window... High level brake light, waiting for the plug..... Wiring to the fuel cell. This will have a new MIL-spec plug and socket so I can remove it quickly if needed. Across to the NS tail light Etc. etc. This lot meets up with the OS loom and down to the front of the car and up to the dash board. It is all overbraided, glue heat shrunk ends and heat shrunk tagged. It will be fixed in place with zip tie holders (which arrived today!) once the chassis has been painted. On to the front, and starting with the OS wing.... This loom carries the windshield wiper, indicators, lights, fan and horn. Again, all overbraided and heat shrunk. The sticky pads will NOT be staying for the final build! Pops through the wing behind the headlight. Still need a new H4 headlight plug, which should be here in the next few days. Across to the horn and fan. Fog light wiring has also been done the same way.... A little bit more detail as I built the NS front loom..... Once all the wires had been routed and joined together with heat shrink "guides", I covered them all with sections of overbraid. Each end is closed with glue backed heat shrink to stop it coming apart and looking bad after handling..... Where each cable joins, it is again closed with glue backed heat shrink to hold the sections together. The ends a labelled ready for pinning. For the head light levelling motor, I fitted the new seals and stripped the wires. New pins in the background ready for fitting.... Crimped on the new pins. Having the correct crimping tools was a must!!! £35 well spent! Finally refit the plug and locking plate All the earthing will be inside the wing, but all the wires were crimped, soldered and heatshrunk. Nothing like having to bit of OCD! Final part is connecting the plug at the inner end of the loom. job for another day, but so far it's only taken 3 full days to wire up the four corners of the car all the way back to the dashboard with all new wire and pins. Some of the original wire was in good shape, but some was showing signs of corrosion. Either way I'm 110% happier doing it this way then recycling old bits of wire with new soldered together. Onward ever slowly!

  7. Well that was an epic read from yesterday ! Agree and disagree with some of the statements thats been typed .. I will say to Ali though, @burbleboy that I know Alex quite well now and his post was not directed at you and in no way was he trying offend or have a dig .. It couldve been read like that i suppose, and im glad you've accpeted the apology. I do however, agree with his point .. The FB users that see Tom's monthly post and think "oh i want to enter that" which is fine, this encourages them to get onto the forum, which is exactly what we want ! But its the childish attitude post voting that is expressed which is what I think Alex was getting at, because they've never been on the fourm, haven't contributed but expect, because they have an "ok" M that they should win .. Also with respect to the comments about garaged built cars, while it would be lovely for a lot of us to be able to spank £4k on and engine swap and wire tuck etc from someone like Hond-R I think alot of people appreciate M's that have work done to them by thier owner (This is my personal opinion too.) The satisfaction of working and completing something on your own car I find very rewarding. But there is ALWAYS things we cant do ourselves, Geo set ups, mapping etc .. (Unless your uber cool ) Being nominated to COTM is an acheivement in itself if im honest, i've not won, but had the deck nominated a couple of times now .. Each time its nice to know its been recognised .. As always though, its good to see good-hearted banter on here ..

  10. Okay guys don't take Tom's comment too seriously, everyone is entitled to an opinion. We are a community here and should appreciate each other's pride and joy that we all spend time and money on making personal to ourselves. If you chose to enter your own car then good on you. For me personally it's more rewarding when someone else submitted my car for COTM.

  11. I have has this discussion before Tom, I entered mine a couple of times and someone said along the same lines as you. I think it is wrong that you are put off because someone entered their own car. For example, I have put alot of time and money and effort getting my car right but had no-onoe enter my Mb into COTM. I DO NOT EXPECT IT but if the car owner loves their car and wants to let others vote on it then why try and put them off entering when they may NEVER get the chance to get a vote. Just my thoughts. **edit** If the majority of people think like Tom then the mods should change the rules so that the COTM is for peoples cars to be entered by others.

  17. We shall have to wait and see how this month goes wont we.. Its a bit of fun, in my opinion on this site nobody's car is any better than the next m. There either built to their budget or just starting a project. Everyone is starting to take cotm too seriously...

  19. Yes mate, you can get either the Team heko ones or the Climair. If you go on the climair website, they actually list them for the Civic MB/MC models, whereas I think Heko only list the for Rover 400/45 etc. Both sets will fit. I have had both sets, and have to say the Climair are a far superior product to the Heko ones. The rear ones from Heko seem to be quite loose when fitted, and can eventaully fall down/off. The Climair ones are a really nice tight fit, with no chance of them falling off. The Heko ones are a slightly darker tint than the Climair ones, although this isn't much. Price wise, Climair are really expensive compared to HEKO, but as said, the climair fit a lot better and more securely. I had the Hekos fitted to Ruby my MB6, and have currently got the ClimAirs fitted to my Deck, DD. Hope this helps.

  21. Wowser! Can't believe you're finally in an MB Mike! And a minter of an MB6 that is too! Really rare to see it with the wood trim, I gather the old guy must have optioned that when new. Lucky bugger getting one with that mileage and never modded, loving it! Loved your EP so can't wait to see where you go with this one bud. And welcome to the dark side lol

  22. So I can never expect a vote from you then tom as I enter my car most months.. If that's what most people think of those who enter their own cars then I am not gonna bother entering mine again.. It's best if you just change the rules then and don't allow people to enter their own car

  26. Mid-spoiler is on! I ended up doing the tipex method and then measureing each side of the spoiler so I know it's all equal. I had a few niggles trying to fit the bolts. I only got 1 bolt each side holding the spoiler on because I think the other threads are damaged. I will be removing the spoiler again and cut new threads with a tap&die set. But the spoiler seems very sturdy anyway

  27. I would say over kill 70mm I am only running 70mm on my k26 . On a 1.5 mmm not really going to do much ( or I would of done it lol) best thing on mb3 is decat putting a big throttle body on may give a little response coz as you press the pedal where on say a 50mm its open 1/4 letting in x amount of air on the 70mm open at only 1/8 throttle would let in the same amount .so in that respect maybe but then you are still not going to get the most out without a new map .big body great but its got to flow down the inletmanifold and into the head . It's all about flow and not how big and much you think you can get in. Decat Light flywheel And new gear box ie s20 Now you have better acceleration and throttle response

  37. So a productive evening. Fresh MoT thanks to @phill1975!! And then on to some fettling!! Mr @Chandler was so kind to bring his tap set across. Chassis holes re tapped and then new bolts, supplied by Alex again and it's on!! Feels a lot more 'connected' like the back is actually responding to the input you have at the front. It no longer has a wallowy mind of it's own (a lot of this is due to Meisters too) but the ARB has finished it off!! Having given it a proper hoon yet, but on the drive back home I could certainly tell the difference.
