Meet Roxy! Daves Honda Civic TypeR FN2 (UPDATE: Roxy waving goodbye to Civic5)
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Other cars
tbh mate, although I'm always cautious driving the deck, I've been overly cautious since the accident. I doubt I'll be going near vtec for a while even when I do get her back. Life in the slow lane eh! lol- 340 replies

Meet Roxy! Daves Honda Civic TypeR FN2 (UPDATE: Roxy waving goodbye to Civic5)
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Other cars
yeah can't wait to get her back all shiney and even better than she was before! And don't worry Tom, DD will be going straight back into her crib as soon as Roxy is back, with her sleeping bag all nice and cosey till the spring time comes again. Will feel a lot happier once she's tucked up safe again, so paranoid about driving her just now, being really over cautious when driving, trying to second guess every single car I see! Gayle says that will pass though, just the nerves after being in that accident.- 340 replies

I think they probably would mate, especially if you were in the kind of bump where the suspension is damaged (like getting whacked of a kerb sideways during winter perhaps, or any other similar type of imapct on the suspension). Then your left with an insurance company who won't (quite rightly) pay out on a car that isnt as described when you took the insurance out with them. And especially with companies such as Adrian Flux and Sky, because they deal mostly with modded cars and know their stuff because they are like us, into cars. Always best to declare everything so you know should the worst happen, you're safe and covered.

So, with Roxy away at the coachworks after her accident, I had to tax DD again and put her back on the road. Was sitting at work, mulling things over about the crash in the TypeR, and insurance and stuff, then thought to myself, "I did declare all the mods on DD, didn't I?". So gave them a call. Bloody lucky I did! They had the interior, the wheels, the exhaust etc, but said they didnt know about the suspension! Now I am almost 99% sure I called them after we fitted it to let them know, but might be getting confused with Ruby So anyhoo, they said they would need to speak to the underwriters to make sure it's ok, and call me back. They called back and........................underwriters WON'T insure her! Shit! They put me through to another company, who might be able to find me cover, and they tried a few. The prices were unbelievable! Went from her current £400 to £1250! With a £700 excess instead of £250! I was like "No bloody way!" Anyways, they put me through to Sky Insurance (Our official trader!) and Justin tried to get me something better. Due to me having an ongoing claim, he said I will probably struggle to find an insurer who will actually give me cover! He too had a quote coming in for £1200, but told me not to worry, he would speak to the underwriters and get me a better deal. Sure enough, he came back to me saying they would insure me even though I had this pending claim, and all mods declared, and including our Civic5 discount for.................................................................£460! With £250 excess and protected no claims etc. And thats based on a like for like on all the mods fitted too in the event of an accident, so wheels, suspension, interior and exhaust are all covered. Result! So DD is now re-insured with Sky insurance, and her old cover has been cancelled. Was scary to think that had anything happened over the weekend, she wasn't covered! All happy now though. So if you're adding mods to the car, especially suspension, speak to your insurer first to make sure A) they will cover it and How much it will effect your premium! Finally want to give a big shout out to Justin and the team at SKY INSURANCE. Amazingly helpful, and very knowledgeable too because they are car enthusiasts just like us. Great price and very very happy ! applause.gif1 applause.gif1

Meet Roxy! Daves Honda Civic TypeR FN2 (UPDATE: Roxy waving goodbye to Civic5)
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Other cars
Just spoke to the coachworks centre today, and the news is great!! She's been assessed and has been given authorization to be repaired! The damage wasn't nearly as bad as it looked, no structural damage at all, and apart from the slam panel and radiators, it's all mostly cosmetic. They have already got some of the parts delivered, so waiting on the rest. Estimate she'll be ready a week on Friday. So happy I'm getting her back, and she'll be looking better than ever! I is a happy bunny! Won't be so happy when the insurance is due for renewal, but hey ho, if it means paying by installments instead of the usual one off payment, then so be it. Just glad it's all worked out. Had some more insurance woes though, with the deck, so check her thread for the news on that!- 340 replies

MB2 TRINITY D. K26. 23/11/14 BRAND NEW MINI MOD ????????
Dave replied to DAVEMB2's topic in Honda Civic MA/MB/MC
Ok, unfortunately, there isn't a way round this guys, as the forum software limits topics to one poll per topic. Been in touch with the bods at IPS and there isnt a work around available for this, so a new poll will have to be created in a new topic. Can kinda see why that is, because most topics with a poll are topics asking the poll question. Soz Dave, gonna have to put up a topic for debate on this mod mate -

Thanks mate. Happened on eskview/stoneybank road in musselburgh, just at the traffic lights. It does look bad although the guy at the repair place said they always look bad until you get all the damaged panels off, so crossed fingers she's going to be saved. Still can't believe it happened!- 340 replies

Meet Roxy! Daves Honda Civic TypeR FN2 (UPDATE: Roxy waving goodbye to Civic5)

A cleaning session spent on her yesterday. clayed, polished, waxed. Then did the wheels, polished then finished with wheels sealer. Looking top dollar. Then, went into town today to pick something up, then went and filled her tank with fuel. 5 mins later.......... Absolutely gutted cry.gif1 cry.gif1 Was driving up a narrow-ish street, uphill, and approaching traffic lights on green. Behind a learner driver, and only doing roughly 25mph, I got momentarily blinded by the sun, kind of squinted my eyes, said "effing sun" looked and learner had stopped dead in front of me. Tried to swerve, but went ploughing into the back of him. Apparently this stretch of road is bad for this, due to the gradient of the hill, and where the sun is at that time of the day. Worst thing is, I'd had my sunglasses on before I went in for fuel, but took them off to fill her up. Didnt put them back on again I know at the previous set of lights, the learner who was 2 cars in front of me at that point braked at the last second for the lights changing to red. Not sure what happened at the lights we crashed at, whether he was maybe going to go through but the instructor braked?? Doesn't matter as it's my own stupid fault. Got such a shock, as it happened so quickly. At least noone was injured, which is the main thing. First thing I did was go to his car to make sure they were ok, which thankfully they were. I had a sore left knee, so guess it must have hit the column on impact. But other than feeling physically sick and shaking, I'm ok too. Knee isn't hurting now (well, just a tiny bit) so could have been worse. Just really angry at myself for not putting the sunglasses back on, and upset for poor Roxy. I had a look at the damage, and not sure if it's the chassis leg poking out through the bumper or part of the crash bar, but what ever it is, its well and truely bent. If it's the chassis leg, then it'll be end of the road for her. Totally gutted and want to cry- 340 replies

Yeah, noticed that! It's because its an old poll thats been renamed, so looking at how to delete the old ones and add a new one. For some reason, it won't let us delete the old one! Nice mod mate, all in the wee details -

Meet Roxy! Daves Honda Civic TypeR FN2 (UPDATE: Roxy waving goodbye to Civic5)
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Other cars
Yeah, they have an amazing list of equipment and creature comforts in them mate. Kinda that that puts me off selling in as I've got used to having all these toys, plus the safety aspect too. Know if the worst ever happens and we're in an accident, we can hopefully walk away intact. Had a look at other cars, and a lot have all the same equipment (focus RS/ST etc) but none look as good as the fn2, so guess she'll be staying for a while. OK, a wee update. Got the new front discs and pads from honda, but have hit a major prob! Can't get the two wee screws out of the discs! Have tried heating them, using an impact driver etc but they just won't budge. The screws aren't even rusty, but obviously have been there since new so are far too tight to get them undone. So gonna have to hand her into a garage to see if they can get them off. I did fit the new pads though as the old ones were truely cooked! Had probs getting the pistons to move back into the callipers though, so had to undo the bleed nipples to help get them back in. So thought I'd have to bleed the brakes, but for once I've been lucky! What a difference with the new pads in! She stops nice and straight, and on her nose if need be! So I'm pretty happy. Next job is changing the plugs for the new ones I got, which is gonna be a pain of a job but should make her drive a bit smoother. Then into the garage to get them discs changed.- 340 replies

The above is because the sites CSS style sheet hasn't loaded mate. Hence no theme or anything. Best thing to do is delete all browsing history (cookies, forms the lot) then see if that sorts it out. If not, try refreshing the page a couple of times and all should be sorted -

Meet Roxy! Daves Honda Civic TypeR FN2 (UPDATE: Roxy waving goodbye to Civic5)
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Other cars
Hmm, will need to think about that. Good things on the way though, new front discs and pads (rears have been done) and new set of plugs for it too. When the discs are off, I'm going to machine the front calippers smooth then get em painted, Also going to adjust the clutch as it's biting the minute the pedal is off the floor, so going to give it a bit more travel to help with high speed gear changing. Might think about mapping it once the warranty runs out. What kind of gains can I expect if I go for a mix of mpg and power? Over standard I mean.- 340 replies

@DAVEMB2 lol indeed a typo! Meant that I deffo prefer the B series more than the K. Is the standard ECU mappable? Without honda/insurance knowing? If so, might have to get that done.- 340 replies
