  1. Good choice, man! I think this is what'll eventually happen to most mb6 drivers... sooner or later they realise decks superiority in all aspects . Glad to see you back in the m game .
  2. I've driven both, if you go Sweden you get nice and easy (but a bit boring!) highways all the way to Stockholm... but the overnight ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki is pretty good party! On the other hand the roads in Poland and the Baltics are pretty good these days, we did Tallinn-Warsaw last may in a minibus and i don't see a problem why a convoy of low civics wouldn't make it... plus it's definitely more interesting in the things to see along the way department! So my advice would be to get the best of both worlds: one route in, the other one out. That would be a nice 11 countries on one go!
  3. Yeah but itz quite chilly here at the moment so i think it evens out! You better get on that road trip mentioned earlier. I promise to take you ice fishing!
  4. ...or melt the plastic or the clearcoat... been there, done that! So i'll take a pass on this one but thanks for the tip anyway.
  5. No i'm just finally getting the plates centered! Since i changed my eu-plates to non eu last spring they got about 5cm shorter... never got around to getting them centered since as you can see, it takes quite a lot of tools get them exactly right! To the millimeter. No pics yet since i'm still waiting for the sealant to dry so i can paint over the old drill holes... takes quite a lot of time in 0 degree weather .
  6. Some winter maintenance last night: i oiled the locks with wd40 and pressurised air and gave a finishing touch with anti-freeze lock oil, then gave the door seals a nice dose of silicon spray, and lastly checked my windshield washer fluid and coolant freezing threshold. Was only -30c so gotta add some proper stuff... february's coming and it can get quite chilly! Even though it's always cool at Dexters's garage if you know what i'm sayin' ! Oh yeah i started something that's been on the to-do list since last may:
  7. Yeah i was thinking about the same thing! I've driven without abs in the winter and on the tracks and my personal preference is rather with than without. It's true that you barely ever need it on dry, but i've had some hairy situations on the track when the wheels lock and the rear end suddenly goes sideways! So i'm gonna stick to the abs, yeah i know many tracks drivers don't like to use it but i'm not a pro... yet !
  8. Well with the abs-activating weather we keep having it's a bit hard to tell, but actually i think the pedal feel is a little firmer than before. I can report better in the spring on this one as well...
  9. Here's the brake stopper i talked about earlier, finally painted racing red and fitted! I modded the mounting holes and did some dry-fits to get it to align exactly against the middle of the master cylinder, but after tightening everything all the way it's still a bit off the center... now it's a bit down and to the right. Hope it doesn't matter too much. But main thing is: more bling in the bay! p.s. note my hella rad bc racing damping adjustment knob!
  10. Probly, depending on tyres. It'll still be low, though! Use willtheyfit.com to help visualize differences between different sized wheel/tyre combos.
  11. Nice! Boom boom I've thought about installing a sub underneath one of the front seats since there's room there, but never got round to it...
  12. I thought setting up corner weights was done by adjusting the spring preloads, not height? There's a business not too far from my place that does this so maybe i'll take the deck there after the snows melt and the fast season begins...
  13. Actually i've got EG coils, but they're hella low too! Even on highest. Won't rub and it's driveable but still so low i'm not sure if i can pass mot .
  14. Left is our driver, your passenger. So yeah it does make sense. Ok well good to hear that it's normal. I measured the corners again and right front is now the same as left front, but right rear is still higher. I'm thinking about the geometry as well, i wonder which is better, to adjust all corners so that it sits level or is it more important to leave them the same height and hope that they will bed in to the same height? As i track the car also i consider this pretty important. One thing i started thinking that what if the lower control arms or their bushes have worn over time, and thus creating the difference in height? Or maybe possibly the previous owner crashed the car or did something to damage the chassis so that it's taken a tiny bit of damage invisible to the eye?
  15. I've got a 30 day trial period but i've paid for them full already and i think i'm going to keep them. They're so good that i don't want to take them off, regardless of the rear height issue. Which isn't even an issue yet but might be in the future... but i don't care! I did turn the damping a bit harder, they're 8 clicks from softest now and seem quite good for everyday winter driving. All the way softest was a bit too soft in the end! But i did notice something weird yesterday. Since fitting the kit the car has looked a bit higher on the right side than on the left, and i know i set the height exactly the same on both sides to the millimeter. I thought at first that my eyes are just playing tricks or the surface isn't level etc. but after seeing the same thing day after another i decided to measure. I took the deck to my work and measured the height from ground to wheelarch, and it was 5mm higher on both right corners. I lifted the car up, and measured the wheelgaps. Again 5mm more on right side. I removed the wheels and doublechecked all fittings and height adjustments and could see no problem anywhere. I started adjusting the height on the right side, and after lowering by 3mm the wheel gaps were the same on both sides, when car lifted. After i lowered it to the ground, it was 2mm higher on the right side. Weird, huh? Any ideas why i'm having this kind of height issues? Has anyone had the same with their Meisters? :-?
  16. Yeah they do look nice brand new don't they! Thought about buying some coilover socks but i guess i should've put them on immediately and not later! The temperature keeps bouncing above and below zero now and the roads are so dirty... as is my car... Noticed yesterday that the rear right corner is sitting a bit higher than the left rear, gonna investigate tonight.
  17. I don't think so... I don't know if i want to know! Or maybe i should... Once we got the old rear shock off and we compared it to the BC shock, i realized immediately that it's on the brink of being too low. Right at that point i was thinking about putting the whole kit back into the box and ordering the Meisters but after a bit of pondering the situation and considering the pro's and cons with my friend we decided fok it, let's put just put it in! I couldn't wait! So i guess i've decided it's good enough. The good thing about my situation is that if i'll have to change to kit to Meisters at some point, i can most probably get the BC's sold at a decent price since they're so popular here. It would be nice to have more adjustment, but in the end the lower the better right!!! Well that's reassuring to hear. Hope it's the same with the BC kit! And i've got the heavier springs than normal so that probly helps a bit too.
  18. Ok sorry for the wait! My girlfriend's been totally bedridden with influenza so have had to prioritize. But anyway here we go: The install was a breeze. Gave a proper lube to all the nuts and bolts and everything came out easy. No seized anythings or problems whatsoever. The BC's fit perfect so the whole thing was done quite quickly. I set the the height to about the same as it was before and left the preload and damping to the factory settings, which are 2-3mm and 8 clicks from hardest. Took it for a test drive and it was sweet as saccharine! Even with the harder 12/10kg springs and relatively hard damping setting it was at the same time so much more comfortable but also firmer than the old H&R coils. My mate who has a 2008 BMW coupe with oem shocks & eibach springs said my ride is more comfy than his, and he's the kind of you guy who will give you crap any time he gets the chance! So i believe him. For the ride home as a test i set the damping all the way to the softest and the ride was like resting your head between a nice set of b**bies. I'm totally in love with these! Before i would try to avoid every single manhole, crack and bump on the road but now i find myself searching for them, just to make sure if the damping is really as comfortable as i think it is! The only downside i can think of at the moment is the ride height in the rear. It's at as high as it'll go, which is ok for winter driving and HOPEFULLY ok for when the car is fully loaded. Maybe it'll work out if i set the damping on hardest. Luckily i very rarely have to drive with a full load, so i took the chance and decided to keep these. On the bright side: now i can slam the car lower than i'll ever need to! So all in all: they're awesome. Can't wait for the roads to melt and set it all the way to the hardest and give the deck a proper trashing! Here are a few photos: The old right rear, leaking "just a bit" New one in: Front: Current height: Max ride height at rear:
  19. It's done! Was a doddle! It's awesome! I'll post a full report and photos later. But at the moment... [smitten.gif]
  20. If you can make it here by tomorrow, i'd appreciate the extra pair of wrenching hands! Cuz tomorrow the coils are going on. No sooner, no later. But i do appreciate all the encouragement to get the job done ! Civic5 at it's finest.
  21. They're on! My living room floor. So shiny! Look soooo much better than my current H&R coil kit. And the ride height adjustment is way better on these, you just screw the shock body in or out the lower mount (Like on Meisters) compared to compressing/decompressing the spring on the H&R's. Checked everything is like i ordered, gonna fit them on sunday when i've got nothing else scheduled. So plenty of time to play with height & damping to get it just right. Gonna give all the nuts & bolts on the the old suspension a proper soaking tonight, hopefully makes my job easier later! I compared the kit very carefully to the pics on MeisterR's website, and to me it looks like they come from the same factory. They seem almost identical in every aspect, except for the locking rings and damping adjustment nut. Also bc has a tad less adjustment, 30 compared to Meister's 32 clicks. But even the springs are marked the same way and with the same font. BC subcontracts coil kits to other brands also, but MeisterR is not one of them, i checked before ordering. But anyway chances are this BC kit is pretty much the same. Let's just hope it fits & sits as well as the MB/MC-specific Meister kit!
