  1. Hello all Haven’t been part of a forum for a very long time, but thought there might be some helpful bits I’ll find whilst doing work on the car and need to find on here too. Last car s**t the bed on me and I needed something reliable and somewhat cheap to drive, plus it had to be something I’d enjoy driving and owning, all on a not very large budget. Searched eBay and auto trader for anything Honda and looked at a few different chassis until I came across the mb2. There were a few around but all more money and worse condition than I would have liked, or literally the other side of the country and I didn’t have time to drive that far to get them. Settled on a blue 1.4s mb2 that was around the Leeds area so not too far from me, garage guy wanted a grand, decent condition, few decent scratches too, 56000 miles and no history. Perfect for me. Went to go see it on the night time as only time I could go due to work, car was filthy, oily handprints all over it and didn’t start because of a flat battery. Not a promising start. Test drive was a bit lacklustre, was used to driving a mk1 Octavia vrs so it was a super slouch in comparison, true grandad mobile but instantly I wanted it. Pointed out a few bits on return and said “800 good for you?” He said yes. Few days later I looked in the boot and found they’d left an Autotel code reader/multimeter that’s about £150ish, didn’t know if they’d left it in there so I could clear the eml light on the dash that appeared on the way home but that’s what I stuck with Didn’t take any photos of it before the AliExpress parcels started coming in so I think these are the earliest After it’s first proper clean and wax, paint is in lovely condition, pretty sure it’s a dead man’s car, garaged and lightly used. Alloys are wrecked though, heavy corrosion and really badly brush painted where they’ve flaked. I do quite like them though so I plan to refurb them and paint them myself when I get a bit of time, tyres on the fronts aren’t too bad, rears are ancient. Obligatory Mugen pedals and spoon shift knob, mats are from an ep I had made years ago Whale p***s was free from a friend and HKS filter was from Ali, along with the Mugen socks, Password washers, Mugen rad cap and oil cap, and the oil catch can too. Bit of an awkward fitment for the catch can but it’s tidy and it works.
  2. Having a really annoying issue with my MA. So as far as I can tell someone fitted an aftermarket alarm system to my car before I got it (I think). I have no idea. The key fob is separate to the key, has no brand and is plane black. It went corroded and stopped working so I started using the key in the locks which seemed to disarm the alarm and the immobiliser. Then I started getting this situation where I'd turn the key, just the drivers button would come up and the alarm and immobiliser stay armed no matter what. Jiggling the key and a bit of WD in the lock sorted that until I came out the other day, no central locking at all, car constantly immobilised and alarmed and I can't do anything about it. Has anyone had an issue like this ? Is the immobiliser and alarm aftermarket does anyone know ? Why did my central locking just stop ? Picture of key and fob below
  3. Hi there, For many years I noticed that our Civic 5Dr MB2 ‘98 takes about 8 turns of the starter motor to start the engine when key is turned if you know what I mean. I always felt that’s too long and something must be up? I’ve recently replaced the distributor entirely but the slow starting is still there and I replaced the ignition leads probably 10 years ago and again that made no difference. the car has done 70k, could the slow starting be due to value clearances being out causing low compression? I don’t think it’s ever been adjusted. It’s still slow to start hot or cold though. thanks
  4. Hi there! New to this forum, and new to the Honda-brand overall. Before I got the Aerodeck, I drove a Peugeot 206 GTI(NO, NOT THE 180!), unfortunatly the chassis of the 206 was en absolute wreck.. It had waaaay to much spots just to repair the bits and pieces, but I just didn't want to anymore... And as for the Aerodeck, it's underside is completely original and most of all..NO RUST! When I bought the car, is was totally stock, so I knew that no one ever messed with the car. Past few weeks I've been busy with modifying the suspention, wanted to put it as low as the roads here alow me to. And past weekend I customized my headlights together with a friend who builds custom headlights on order. Quite happy with the result, but still thinking what to do.. keep the 3000K Xenon in it, or going for a new set of 8000K Xenon, and then out yellow foil on the light-units themselves. Enough for the storytelling now, here are some pictures of my Honda Civic Aerodeck! (P.S. it has some spots and dents, but that's all gonna get fixed eventually!) Above; stock height|Down; coilovers mounted, rear was put at highest setting..xD.. Down; the work on customizing the headlights started! Too bad it was weird weather, one moment dry for 10 minutes, and before you knew it was pouring like hell. And it changed like that the entire day.... Above; just love the fog hanging in the lightbeam, gives it a bit of a "spooky" effect. Above; the day after the headlights were finished, gave the car a proper washing to check the headlights for any leaks or fog inside the units, and guess what, they're free of both! So far for the upgrades, but will definitely post more when the next parts/things are going to change!
  5. Am I right that the D Series SOHC engines fitted to the MB Civics are designed in the following way? As far as I can tell, the valve cover needs to be removed in order to remove the top timing belt cover? I have changed a timing belt in the past on a SOHC D Series engine. I had changed the valve cover gasket before. I noticed at the time that the valve cover had to be removed in order to remove the plastic timing belt cover. While the valve cover was off, I removed the plastic cover and ground off the lip that fits into the slot on the valve cover. That way, when the belt was due, I was able to remove the plastic cover without needing to break the valve cover seal. It also allows the timing belt to be easily checked for condition without needing to remove the valve cover. I have seen aftermarket clear plastic timing belt covers pictured on the internet before. While that seemed like a good idea, I would think that it would soon get dirty on the inside. I also wonder how long they would last before the clear plastic turned cloudy. As an aside, what is the secret to getting a lasting seal on the valve cover gasket? I used a new gasket with sealant only at the corner points of the camshaft bearing cap at both ends. This was recommended by a Haynes manual. The seal lasted a couple of years but eventually started leaking oil from the corners of the end cam caps. Thanks for any information.
  6. Hi there, Got my test next month and I've been eyeing up a 2000 Civic 5 door saloon 1.4iS (I believe it's an MB2 D14A8), as it's cheap to buy and insure and they have a reputation of being reliable. I have a strong fascination for this car and it's potential to be upgraded and overtime I want to make it my own through gradual modification. And I probably don't know an awful lot, so I want to learn and get ideas + suggestions that will also help me to make decisions specific to this car. First mods I plan to do: Wheels and tyres: planning on getting some 17x7.5 with either 215/45 or 225/45. But I want to know what range of tyre sizes will be suitable. Brake Pads, Coilovers, Cool air intake: what's good? What's affordable? What's a mix of both? Body work: any low profile body work that facelifts the car, and where to get them? (Such as the body work on VTi-S models). May also look into getting an LSD, open to suggestions of what to get, new or second hand, and what to look out for. General suggestions also welcome, feel free to educate me, I'm here to learn. Thank you
  7. Hello everyone, put this off for sometime as wanted to get a few things done and sorted before starting this thread.Where to start, well I bought my Mb2 nearly two years ago from a neighbour who was going to part exchange the car in so had it for £200 bargain really as they're an elderly couple and had the car from new, garaged it and only had 65k on the clock. After I bought her and the keys were handed over, that's where the fun started!First thing I did was buy some his lights which made a big difference, they are some Chinese brand but have been on 2 years now. Next was some fogs with another hid kit on, I just couldn't justify paying prices of the second hand fogs for the car. After saving up some more I bought some 17" alloys which I have just taken off due to hopefully getting some 15" BBS ones. After that I thought to take some attention to under the hood. A induction kit has been added which just made it sound meatier, not so sure about performance. Then got a few bargains. Bought a front and rear brace both for £10! Tried to make the back brace look as pretty as I could by cutting part of the carpet out the back , as I'm not the best at making things look neat Biggest and the best mod I've done has got to be my coilovers got them off Matt who's Mb sadly died.Along when purchasing his coilovers I also bought blacked out headlights and his black grill..all this was great and Matt is such a top lad! All that fitted and she is looking mighty fine. Then I made a trip to to get a silver vti-s kit which set me back £60! I know what a bargain! The bad points which I've finally got the ball rolling are the back arches, for some reason even though the couple who owned KT before garaged her , the arches are eaten away so getting those sorted in the upcoming months.and finally slight paint flaking on my back bumper but all in all everything else is rosey. Could anyone give me some ideas for some engine mods? I have been thinking of a swap but don't know if worth it? Let me know !!! Thanks and will try and update as often as possible
  8. I've been told that my MA8 edu is OBD2 but I haven't been able to find the OBD2 connector. Has anyone found it or do we just not have one?
  9. Hello, here is my "project topic" Last summer i bought my Aerodeck in Germany. Since summer i did a few modifications to the car. First i installed my Japan Racing JR3 rims After a long vacation trip, from the Netherland to Praha and back, i decided to lower the front of the Aerodeck it drove very nice but the looks where not what i wanted so i decided to lower back
  10. Hi guys, So my gears started becoming harder to change lately, and there's been some strange whining noises in between certain gears. My mechanic has advised me that the Release bearing in the clutch might be the cause. So instead of changing the bearing, I'm thinking of getting a whole new clutch kit while I'm at it, and after some ebay and forum browsing I've seen alot of Brands such as the famous Exedy and other brands that I don't recognize such as CG Motorsports, Black diamond, and so on. I'm maybe considering getting a Competition stage 2 clutch since I'm always burning through my current (high revs) (also probably the cause of my current situation). So any of you guys have experience with clutches that can advise me on a good one to get?
