  1. Hi guys, So I've found out that the noise which I thought was standard is actually my input shaft bearing. And comparing it to every video on youtube, etc it sounds the same and behaves the same. Which is annoying, as I replaced the clutch not too long ago! So, questions. I've watched a video on replacing the bearing and it looks simple, just time consuming. This is obviously the cheaper option. I'd be doing it myself. Or just replacing the entire gearbox. Now I could either replace it with a OEM one or I know that people have changed to other gearboxes... Question is, what are the benefits/downsides and is it worth it? Car is completely stock, other than lightened flywheel and MGzs shocks... Would look at doing other things later, but lets fix her up first eh? So, replace bearing? Go for OEM gearbox or other gearbox? Mb3 so D15 engine
  2. Hi Guys, Car started making this noise recently and I'm pretty sure it's not normal. It's far more noticeable in first gear then any other gear. If I keep the revs below a certain point then it sounds normal the entire way but where's the fun in that? I'd only bother with the first 40/50 seconds or so... Also, pretty sure that sometimes there's more/less noise from the gearbox/clutch. I'll try and get a video of that soon...
  3. Was just looking on ignition car parts site for new dizzy cap and rotor, and noticed that they do abs sensors. They didn't pick up my reg on the search, and the mc2 isn't listed in any of the compatibility charts, but I did a search on the honda part number for a rear sensor and it took me to this page http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/PartDetails.aspx?s_pc=SMP-60094&s_vid= Like i say, a couple of ms are listed (diesels) but not others, so be cautious and check before buying, but £73 for a new sensor is the best price I've seen... And I've done some looking over the years.
  4. HI, Recently got some MG ZS shocks. However, the bolt holding one of the rear shocks is seized on and the bolt is now rounded. Thought the easiest way would be to just replace the LCAs completely. Either by getting a second hand one or buying new ones entirely... It's an MB3. Which LCAs do I go for, where do I buy? AND if I was to upgrade to an MB6 later one, are they also the same fit? And where do I source new bolts?
  5. Cut long story short, I hit someone from the rear and the top half of my car took a lot of impact so the slam panel has pushed inwards. Pic attached. Wings are ok. One headlight cracked but I've got a spare. Bonnet is totally destroyed. Bumper is scuffed. I do not wish to go through insurance. If anyone here is an expert, could they tell me if this is repairable and if I need a new slam panel, I could obtain one from a breaker but what would average cost a garage charge to cut off old and weld in new? It's an MB6 VTi-S which are quite rare so that's why I want to save it.
  6. Having gone through a series of issues with supplied parts recently I and a few friends I've worked with in the past are looking to setup a small speedshop that also caters for standard parts. I've spoken to Dave here about prospectively becoming a trader but to do that I need to get setup first.. And before I can get setup I need to do some market research! I'm in the midst of building a webstore with a metric f**ktonne of encryption and various other backups towards security. We're hoping to cater directly for the MB/MC chassis with a range of tried-tested parts, Initially, We are looking to stock things like Intake kits, Silicone hoses, dress-up parts and eventually would like to stock everything from internal components, suspension components to fiberglass panels. We're looking to also stock service kits both upgraded and standard spec parts. I've spoken to an engineering firm who're willing to do a limited run of exhaust systems for both the Aerodeck and fastback civics in both D and B series I have got a few companies on board right now with meetings and talks setup with brands such as Lucas oils, Exol oils, ADL Blueprint / Bilstien, Mahle etc. I've also been in contact with 3 of the major "shiny bits" companies like BWR, ASR and Function7, Two of the brands are quite interested in doing a modified Aerodeck option to their braces due to the 4mm closer in bolt holes, the other wasn't as excited. We're looking for some input here so if you have anything that you would like to see available off the shelf with direct support and fitment, I'll be happy to listen! Finch
  7. Stumbled across this today http://www.rac.co.uk/drive/car-reviews/honda/civic/207658/
  8. It's a 1.4; just need to know where it is and how best to access it for removal.
  9. This is my first mb/ma honda, before this one i had an mint white ED6 civic which i unfortunately crashed.. it's an MB1 1.6iLS 1998 i've had it a little bit over a month and already love it! the way it drives and corners, just a well built car! if u have any ideas what to do to it to make it even more better looking then comment!
  10. Need to replace my inner cv boots, does anyone know for sure the measurements for these? I looked up the OEM part number from Lings (44017SR3900) and after some googling most (but not all) results pointed my in the direction of inner diameter 22mm / 76mm. Can someone verify this please? Thanks.

    Dc2 Recaro's

Hi I'm looking at getting a pair of dc2 recaros in the near future and was just wounding if anybody knew what would be the best way to fit them into my mb6, would it be moddifie the dc2 railes to fit mb chassis or moddifie a pair of mb railes on to the dc2 recaros? Any help would be appreciated.

  14. I would like to know if it will be possible to fit on the MB6 Hood and front bumper onto my MA8. I've noticed there are significantly more parts for the MB6, and then more there's the front lip that I think I wouldn't be able to put onto my MA8. I'm worries there might be conflict with the lights or other parts of the body. And that MB6 bumper is quite sexy. Pictured my white ma8, someone elses (who's probably here on civic5) mb6
  15. As promised I took a couple of photos yesterday of the car. It ticked onto the big 3-0 the other day so had to get a photo. The interior is so mint, never seen a gear knob in such good condition. Under the all weather mats it has basically brand new carpet mats all round. I keep finding all sorts as i dig around, like the original sales brochure. The body work is OK, would like to get the arch done at some point. The engine bay is clean, just dirty. I have never seen the lower part of the front panel NOT rusty on a Honda before so that was nice. I also treated myself yesterday to a new stereo, i had to very carefully remove the original head unit and install the new one. Very happy with the results. So onto plans moving forward, the brakes are terrible. I have new pads and discs all round, four new shocks as they are all shot and service parts. There could be an issue with the master cylinder so I have bought a replacement just incase. I am going to change the brake fluid and the pads and discs first and see how the pedal is after that. I would like to get a nice set of Work wheels and maybe some springs don't fancy Miesters again. Comments and thoughts welcome
  16. Just thought I'd post this, my little red mb on a tshirt , came today even got the same wing and my number plate
  17. Well heres the new project. Same car as the previous but with a manual box and I think its pirate black. (has a purple sparkle when the sun hits it). So a 1.6 sohc 1999 MB4. Its by far the dirtiest car ive ever bought. but with a bit of love itll be somewhere near decent. the outside isnt too bad aside from a dent in the rear quarter and a big scratch down the other side. Oh and a crack in the rear bumper. Inside was just grot and mould everywhere and the drivers window mechanism and seal is goosed ive managed to get it shut for now to keep the rain out but first I need to sort the MOT out. Fail list: horn not working wheel nuts missing poor handbrake efficiency offside handbrake not working (siezed caliper) ABS light on Advisories: battery insecure possible leak from top of fuel tank when full deterioration but not excessive to front brake lines deterioration but not excessive to both rear suspension bushes im sure there was something else but i cant find the sheet at the moment.

Its a really nippy car and I love it

  20. So I'm Finch! I've been here before by many names with many cars over the years but this ones the one to stay, I've never really progressed very far with a build blog as I tend to forget to take pictures! Not this time! The car has been posted once before under another name but I thought I'd start again and in a few days time when works less hectic get the DSLR out and take some decent pictures. The car is a (fairly) stock 1.4 Sport MB8 in Knighthawk Black. It has AC, PS, Alloys and Electric windows as standard and the same interior as the VTI-S/MB6 for all intents and purposes. I picked the car up in February I think it was and paid £400 with 160k on the clocks which rapidly climbed to 182k by this morning (I do ALOT of driving). I took the car for MOT on Sat and it passed with flying colours, only two advisories; Small oil leak (coming from the filter seal on inspection) and bushing on steering rack is worn. Both will be remedied in following days! In the last few days I suspected a headgasket issue due to steam coming from around the head and burbling and bubbling in the overflow/expansion tank, I did a tstat change and fluid renewell about a month ago (do it every 3 or so months). Did a compression test this morning (dry, cold start) before work and got 220 215 225 217 so I was both very pleased and very confused to say the least! I expected a really really low value somewhere though I have no loss of power or anything. So I bled the system and tada the engine has stayed cool today and the heaters were warm! though I'm keeping water with me incase! I gave my MOT tester a call and he said he'd looked at the fluids to make sure levels were good due to the small oil leak so I'm now wondering if there was an air-lock caused by him checking the water level. In the first 3 days of owning the car I had already ordered a bunch of stuff and dug-out a few bits I already owned.
