Yeah, there are so many seams hidden behind trim on these cars. I'm hoping that's where this latest leak is from lol

Yes, that's what was thinking. Could be the key that's causing the immobilizer issue and not the alarm itself. Always difficult to sort faults out with immobilizers/after market alarms.

Good shout mate, as things like this will be coming a common thing on our Civics now with the age of them. I did notice that a bit of seam sealer near the scuttle panel/front wing on DD had broke down a bit when I was fixing the scuttle leak. Now that I've fixed that, she's done the legendary Civic M fault of top corner of roof lining now slightly wet near windscreen! Didn't know there was seam sealer under the roof rails so will get them off and check it all out and reseal where needed.

Hi Peter. Really strange problem your MA Civic has got. I had an MA Civic years ago, and the fob is like the standard one all MA/MB/MC Civics have (Valeo type) with two buttons so that deffo points to yours being an aftermarket one. As Simon said, if you have a look under the bonnet and see if you can see the siren as this will have the make/model on it somewhere. Good idea to disconnect the battery, which might if you're lucky reset the problem you're having with the central locking. If a replacement fob can't be had, the only alternative is to have the alarm removed. These Civics have a built in immobilizer from the factory anyways (that's the green flashing key light on your instrument panel). I'd probably take the drivers side door panel o0ff and look for any wires that have been added to the central locking solenoid. It might be one of them has come loose/corroded? On a side note, your key looks different to the standard Civic MA key too? Maybe had relacement locks/key set at some point in it's life? The standard key has a black rubber like top to it with the H logo on it, not a plastic one. Did you get any other key's with the car?

Suppose it's a big heavy car with all the safety equipment it has on board. Diesels probably the best option, plenty torque.
-
Haha, triple garage would be awesome!! I'd only end up filling it with more cars though! Was browsing a certain auction site last night looking at MK3 Ford Cortinas of all things...........got a real hankering for owning one again! Never gonna happen unless we win the lottery, but bloke can dream ay! Deffo be worth it mate just to keep her away from the worst of the weather when you're not using her.

Sad but true mate. Only way forward for car lovers is to say to hell with the cities and move out to the countryside! Drive what you want out in the sticks!! lol

Just noticed the 40/35 split front to rear. Does the car have different profiles front to rear as standard?? Know the BMW's sometimes have wider rears but never seen the profiles being different?
-
I would stick with the 40's Jake as the 35's will be like rubber bands. Problem with them on 18's/19's is they give little to no give, so end us with a really harsh ride. Also because the sidewall is so small, we found it was even more prone to being easily damaged (as Gayle found out on the Civic5 run with Roxy my TypeR lol) 40 is still a very low profile, so will give you decent handling with very little sidewall movement, but should still have enough give to maintain a decent enough ride. Strange the website is recommending a lower profile though? Wonder if there's maybe an issue with scrubbing?

What an awesome first Aerodeck to have bagged yourself. Very well known club car mate, you got good one there! Will be following this to see where you go with it mods wise, whats the plans? @KiNK43 is indeed one of the most helpful and enthusiastic Civic M owners you'll ever meet! Jake's been a member here for a very long time and is also part of the Civic5 team too. I hear he's such a n ice chap he's decided to just give me his VTiS to keep! Hahaha, I wish! To be honest though mate, all our Civic5 members are the most helpful bunch ever. I'm so looking forward to the day where we can have another Civic5 stand at some of the jap shows. Really miss the banter!

Infact.... Ali's old Accord
-
The Accord generally is a bigger Civic. I like them, in all generations. TypeR is lovely, but heavy on go-go juice. I'd be surprised if the TypeR is ULEZ compliant though? All the Accords of that Gen can be found pretty cheaply now I think. We've had a few different Accords in Civic5, from the very early pop up light version that Krzys had (think he might still have it) to the generation mentioned above, through to the later ones such as Simons Mrs and Ali (burbleboy) had. If you can stretch to the later versions, I'd deffo have on e of those! Have a look at Mrs Broons Accord Tourer or Ali's modded 4 door to see how good they can look modified. I still see Ali's one going about near where I work, looks awesome!

That'll look so much nicer mate!

Gotta have a garage mate! We were lucky that this house already has a single brick garage, but although its long (over 19ft) its only wide enough to park your car in, not wide enought to work on it. Well, not easily anyways! So once the new ones built it'll be cool having the two! Not quite as good as what I had with the double garage, but it'll do nicely!

The car that I really really wanted when I was learning to drive

That is sporty mate, looks like a GT? Can just see the badges on the rear quarters, unless he just put them on? -
Yeah, was incredible the amount of crap under it, was like thick solid mud! So glad she's now water tight again, one less thing to worry about! Means I can get back to using her again as she's been hiding in the car port since the leak started. Not that I've actually gone anywhere since the last lockdown started!! Never really leave the village at the moment tbh. Can't wait to get the new garage built, want to give DD a wee front end respray as she has loads of stone chips on the VTiS splitter and bonnet. Bumper is still like new though! (although it was replaced a few years back with a brand new one so maybe that's why lol)

Nice, looks spot on with the Mk2 Rostyles on it, one of my fav ever wheels! -
That's awesome mate, good to know. I might buy some just to have them there for if they're needed. Going to start building up a wee supply of spares I think as parts are going to get hard to find for these cars.

So, finally got around to fitting the Halo dashcam and hardwire kit today. The wiring kit was really decent, easy to install. Got the dashcam all hooked up and working perfect. Good thing is its really small, so not really that noticeable from outside. Cheeky wee pic now she had been washed and new cam fitted! Unfortunately, due to a wee fault with her Juke, Gayle had to use DD to go to and from work, so she's all bloody dirty again! lol Good thing is, we had torrential rain up here, so that, and along with me giving her a good wash after fixing the leak, she's nice and dry in the footwell! Wee pic of the Halo

So, unfortunately DD developed a rather bad leak into the drivers front footwell. Noticed it after I had gave her good wash, the whole footwell was literally swimming in a pool of water. Got the mat out, removed the trim and pulled back the carpet. Took absolute hours to get all the water out and wring out the carpet which was saturated. Got Gayle to start with the hose, spraying a little water at the bottom of the screen and working our way up to the top and onto roof. No sign of where it was getting in at all!! So, speaking to DAVEMB2 one night on the phone, and he mentioned that there is a big hole beneath the scuttle panel trim that is open and goes straight into the heater. It only has a small lip around it, so maybe water coming in there. Got the trim all removed, and sure enough, there is this huge hole and you can actually reach in and spin the fan on the heater! See the pics below. The pic above shows the location of the hole. The scuttle panel above overhangs the hole, and normally the water wouldn't go in/drip down into the hole. Unfortunately, there was 22 years worth of mud/grime built up in the lip on the scuttle, meaning it was level with the top of the lip. The pic above shows dirt, but I was half way through cleaning it so it was way worse than this! Water was able to go straight into the heater and along the pipes to drivers side! There's a flap of metal to the front of the hole which I assume is to stop the water splashing into it. The scuttle lip sits so that it is just inside the lip. I've bent that flap slightly towards the hole, meaning any water that does go over the top lip will just run off the flap and into the drains as it should do. Spent ages with cleaning stuff and a Henry hoover cleaning all dirt and crap out. This pic below shows it cleaned, and the flap now bent back towards the rear of the car. And finally all done. The bits that look rusty are actually the factory sealant. One thing I was glad of is that when removing the scuttle trim, the actual scuttle and bulkhead are absolutely rust free. Not a single bit of rust there! I was a bit worried with the leak, as thought the bulkhead may have rotted away out of site beneath the trim. Jims Rover 400, which looked mint, was rotten in there when he got the windscreen replaced, which was the reason he got rid of it. Same year as DD too! Glad to say she's mint in there! I've also sprayed the entire scuttle area with silicon spray to keep the water off it. Hopefully this will keep her rust free in there for years to come.

The car that I really really wanted when I was learning to drive
Dave replied to dr_broon's topic in Chat Lounge
The car I wanted when I past my driving test was a mk3 Ford Cortina 2000E! Those were the car to have back in my youth, along with the mk2 Escort. Sadly, Couldn't wait till I past my test so went and bought a lovely white mk3 2000E before I even got my license! Couldn't drive it legally so my big bro used to take me out for a spin in it, deal being he got to use it to go to work lol. Had a mk2 Escort too, which I stupidly drove before passing my test and got caught! Years ban before I even had my license, not something I'm proud of, just wanted to drive!!! So, car I always wanted (and got!) (photoshopped the number plate from mine onto it!) -

Loved the Orion 1.6 Ghia injection. You had a Ghia injection, you were the envy of your mates.Likeing the dealer fitted RS bodykit on that one too! My dad had a mk1 Orion in diamond white, was an awesome car. Not a Ghia though, but still looked sweet. Unreliable as hell though! Had so much trouble with the carb on it (RAC guy even said it was a design fault of the carb itself) where it used to cause a back pressure then the car would stop. Got it fixed eventually though. I'll see if i can find a photo of it. One of my best friends had the Orion Ghia injection, was so envious! And the car he traded in for it.......MK2 Fiesta XR2 in rosso red. Loved that wee car soooo much, but I didnt have the pockets to buy one then! Deffo no got the pockets now! You seen how much anything old with a Ford badge goes for nowadays!
