Is this body kit genuine Honda or aftermarket?
Dave replied to YRegMB's topic in Body/Electrics/Interior
£995 with no MOT??? Sorry mate, but that seller is dreaming. They will never get that for it, they'd be lucky to get that with a yrs mot on it. With that mileage, no mot and being a D series not a B series engine, that's a £150 to £300 car.- 8 replies

All depends on the price tbh mate. No MOT generally gives you scrap value, so if its cheap enough and the shell is free from rust (get under and inspect everything and every nook and cranny!) then as Simon said above don't be too concerned about the mileage. Just the usual checks for the engine (any signs of oil leaks, blue smoke under acceleration, strange noises etc) and see how she drives. From the photos she certainly looks decent. Ive got the original brochure too! The wind deflectors if OEM Honda ones will be solid black plastic. If they are the tinted perspex ones, they'll either be Climair or Team Heko aftermarket ones, both of which are readily available on the internet. Oh, and just spotted a mega bonus......that civic has the larger (and better) front fog lights fitted which are rare as hens teeth!- 8 replies

That's the genuine OEM body kit from Honda that came standard fitted to the Civic VTiS MB6 models. Was also available in the accessories catalogue for the Civic M series at the time so you could order it for your non VTiS Civic. Although there have been aftermarket kits produced (all with the usual 90's fashion of big gaping holes everywhere!) this OEM kit is the best looking kit for any Civic M in my opinion, looks spot on. I fitted that kit to Ruby my VTi, and my Aerodeck has that front spoiler/lip. I've got the sideskirts in the garage waiting to be painted before fitting. There was a similar looking rear lip available for the aerodeck too (which again is standard on the VTiS aerodeck) and I did have this until some pikey stole it from my rear garden at our old house!- 8 replies

£260 a month road tax?????? I thought it would be a year? If it's per month that's crazy, no wonder so many cars in mint condition went to scrap during the second wave of the scrapage scheme. Hopefully (doubtful) in time the powers that be will see the error of their thinking and realize that old cars (if they've been properly serviced and maintained during their life) are worth keeping on our roads and shouldn't keep being penalized as they are a more environmentally friendly than making new cars. We can live in hope! Love live the Civic M!

That really sucks with the low emission zones mate, never knew that they actually banned cars from a certain year backwards. Hope they never get the same idea here as I'm never giving up DD my Aerodeck, they can shove their ULEZ where the sun doesn't shine! Was talking to Dave (DAVEMB2 on here) on the phone the other night and we were discussing this very issue. We worked out that his Civic MB3 (1.5 eco-vtec) works out to be causing less pollution compared to buying a new hybrid/electric/new petrol car. Sounds impossible? Well, the amount of carbon footprint producing one of these new cars is huge compared to what his 20 odd year old civic is producing now. The amount of things the planet needs to give up to make a new car, and the amount of pollution caused by making it, is high compared with the very low emissions his mb3 is putting out. Ay MOT time, the mb3 is way below the actual limit that's allowed. That, along with the fact he can get around 450 (sometimes more) from a tank of unleaded means that keeping his car on the go rather than scraping and getting a brand new car is a more effective way to lower the pollution and carbon footprint. The enviromentalists/govt etc don't look at it that way though. And they think that moving everyone to EV's is the way forward but it isn't. Although the EV's don't emit any emissions, the pollution is just moved elsewhere. The pollution caused making them, the extra pollution churned out by power stations trying to charge them all, the extra hassle of how do we dispose of the batteries when the car is end of life or written off.........that's all pollution that's just been moved around. So every time you see an EV with the sticker "Zero emissions" on it, its actually BS! lol One thing to watch out for on the 2001 registered civc M's is they are taxed different to pre 2000 civics. The road tax is considerably more on 2001 year Civic M's compared to any other Civic M's. They are deffo out there, but hard to find. As Simon said, the Civic M's were not being produced in 2001, production ceased between 99/2000. The 2001 civics were just the last of the Civics that were registered in 2001, not actually built then. Production of the EP/EU Civic had already started by then and the new Civic was on sale.

Civic5 How to guide No 8 - JDM style twin rear fog lights mod. This guide shows you how to modify your Honda Civic 5 door MA/MB rear lights to incorporate twin rear fog lights. This guide could also be used to do the same mod to the Honda Civic 5 door Aerodeck models too, although there may be some slight differences. Big thanks to member Dan1 for this great How To guide!- 1 review

PS: you should still be ok at the mot with twin fogs as I've done that mod to loads of my cars and they all passed mot no probs
-
Excellent, glad to see my old memory can still remember some stuff! lol The reason Honda didn't fit twin rear fog lights is MOT/ EU law required one fog light to be fitted to the offside/drivers side of the car as it was deemed twin fogs could be mistaken for brake lights. The reason for it being the drivers side is that this is the side that is positioned towards the middle of the road. If it had been nearside/pass side, in thick fog a car coming up behind could mistake the car for a motorbike/bicycle and go to over take, and hit the rear drivers side of car. TBH, that last bit is in reality crap, as if the fog is so bad you can only see the the fog light and not the car/normal tail lights, you shouldn't be overtaking! Nuts eh! So for left hand drive cars, the fog is on the left side of the rear, hence why the left light can also take a fog light bulb really easily. Makes sense when you think about it. Does still seem weird as my 96 Ford Escort mk 6 had twin rear fogs, but my 96 Honda Civic MA8 had the single fog on right side.

Nice one Rob! Did it have the holes already in it for the plastic side skirts to go back on or did you need to drill these? I'll add the link to our useful info section/parts section. Dave

I can check DD as she has the optional Pioneer cd changer in the boot. Will have a look at the plug on that when I get a chance mate and let you know if its the same as the one in your boot. Hadn't thought about the cd changer lol
-
Looking sweet lowered mate! Really is a tidy MB that. Regarding that plug in the boot, I've seen that one before in the past. Almost sure it is for plugging in the oem Honda towbar electrics, as Ruby had a towbar (Honda one) fitted when we got her and I removed it. I'm sure it was plugged into that plug. Hopefully someone will be able to confirm this for sure shortly.

What year was the Accord mate? Thinking they probably had similar set ups depending on the year? Its an electric rack in the fn2 isn't it? Woulod be interesting to get a measurement of the fn2 shaft and the mb/mc one to see if its possible. Would possibly even give up my retrimmed DC2 wheel if I could have the fn1/2 wheel and get the buttons working!
-
Did they not do an Aerodeck too? Or an MB6 to K20?
-
Wow! Stunning engine bay mate, really nice conversion that! Going to be a total sleeper that! Loving these K swaps into Civic M's, its almost like the tables have turned full circle! Used to be that MB6's were bought/broken for their B18's to go into other civics/cars........now TypeR's are being broken so there engines can be fitted to Civic M's! Loving it! Sooo looking forward to your build thread on this mate!

Hows the turbo holding up? These mk1's give proper giggles with a turbo fitted eh! Have seen videos of them but never been in a turbo'd mk1 yet.

Exactly as Jamie says mate, prise out the fog light switch (theres a wee gap in the bottom of it to get a small flat screwdriver in) and you'll see the screw holding the cowel to the dash. The other is behind the blank plate (or might be the dash dimmer switch depending if yours has it fitted). Drop the steering hight adjustment right down when trying to remove the cowel though as it won't come out if the steering is in high position. Looking forward to seeing this K-swap!!!

The front fogs should plug into a connector on the drivers side inner wing just up from the headlight. Think the wiring harness from the bulkhead to the plug on inner wing is standard, but when they fit them as an optional the fog light kit comes with the harness to go from switch to fusebox then bulkhead, and the wiring harness that goes from that plug on inner wing down to fogs. Hope this helps

The good old Honda equipment levels in models can be hit or miss. All depends on what the first owner optioned in a lot of cases. My pre facelift MA8 1.4i was the base model, but had been optioned with the electric pack, alloys and mica metallic paint. So basic Civic but had electric mirrors (also heated, with separate switch for this), electric tilt/slide glass sunroof, electric front windows (wind up rears). The mirrors, even though fully electric, were plain black plastic housings, not colour coded. Bumpers were only half colour coded (which looked nuts!). Bloody brilliant wee car though, never ever went wrong in the 8 years or so we owned it.

Wonder what fitment the FN1/FN2 wheel is (other than FN1/FN2 lol ) Loved that wheel in my TypeS and TypeR, would love to see that in an MB/MC! Wonder if it could be fitted and if the radio volume buttons could be wired up?
-
Deffo the DC2/EG boss kits for our civics as I have the DC2 steering wheel fitted to DD, and it was straight forward plug/play. I had issues getting a boss previously for my MA8 civic, bought the eg/dc2 one wich would go on, but the srs clock spool or whatever they call it got in the way and prevented it from fitting. Found out from supplier at the time (Funkypower.co.uk) that there was also an airbag kit version, but they didnt have it in stock so I never did get that wheel fitted.

Yes both the front and the rear mgzs roll bars are thicker than mb6/mc2 has so be a good idea to fit both front and rear if you can get them.
