Does the mazdaspeed suspension have just a small drop in height compared to stock, but is a lot stiffer if I remember rightly? Might be an option although can't imagine anything from mazdaspeed being cheap!! lol
-
Oh bugger! Think I'll need to check DD's too then as she sits around for long periods. Not done 8k yet but that's a hella low mileage for them to be leaking at already mate. Considering the price, if I find DD's are the same I'm gonna be mightily pee'd off!

Looking good mate!! Loving the white banded rims on it, goes nicely with that colour.

So, little update on Carly. Christmas Eve I was out delivering cards that I'd forgot about! Quite a lengthy trip, but after delivering final card the rear brakes decided to give up again! Pads down to metal, rear calipers binding and now seized again!! Decided this time that enough was enough, those rears were getting replaced (garage rebuilt them last time which was less that a year ago!) Got new calipers but again Carly proved stubborn! Couldn't get Flexi hose off the caliper so had to put her back together and take her down to my usual garage for them to heat up the flexi to get it off. New calipers fitted but they didn't have time to bleed the brakes. So, on 3rd January Gayle and me got her all jacked up and bled the brakes ourselves. Putting car back together and got to last wheel nut. I'd previously felt out of breath/bit faint about 5 mins before fitting wheel. Went to tighten last wheel nut and bang, I had a heart attack!!! Can't believe it!! Got rushed into hospital where a team were waiting at the door an took me straight into theatre (no decent films showing!) Got a blood clot removed and two stents fitted. Now recovering slowly, but finding it hard to take in! Only just back driving, so pleased to say Carly's brakes are now perfect! Just as bloody well! Lol So glad Gayle was with me working in the garage, if she hadn't been there the ambulance staff/ hospital recon I wouldn't be here now! So massive thanks to Gayle for spotting what was happening and getting the ambulance straight away.

Nah, deffo not lowering this one Tom. Kinda had my fill of lowered cars, really don't enjoy driving them (although yes they do look better!!) Even thinking of putting DD back on her standard suspension, although that most likely won't happen! Did think about more power, even though about supercharging! Not really a fan of turbos to be honest, lag etc. Might look at subtle upgrades for power (poss changing cams, exhaust). Apparently advancing timing to12 degrees tdc makes a big improvement but need to do more research on that. I don't mind the fact it's not fast like a typeR etc, the sensation of speed on a B road makes it feel faster anyways lol But would like more power for overtaking etc. Even standard, the engine does sound nice when giving it beans.

Thanks chaps. Yes, excellent way to chill out, and chuffed with both models now. Just got the number plates to make up then jobs a good 'un!
-
How many miles have you done on them mate? 5 years seems a very short life for a set of shocks! Got the same set on DD.

So, started building model number 2 but also decided I wasn't happy with model number 1 so it was stripped to it's body again! Can see just how bad the paint was... Sanded model 1 down again ready for painting... Decided against using the Halfords paint and instead bought some Humbrol model spray paint in bright red. Resprayed model number 1 and model number 2 at same time. Model number 1 looking much better this time around! Also decided to "upgrade the interior on model 1 to same as model 2. I painted it up like it had the wood rim steering wheel, gearknob and centre console trim And some photos pf the two models. All decals on except for the number plates which I'm making myself on laptop. Unfortunately, when trying to remove the rear lights on model 1 before respraying the body, they broke. So these had to be left on and painted over. Once dry, I had to paint the details on the outside of the lights, hence they look different to model 2. Also shows the damage to lights when I tried to remove them. Ah well, only noticeable with the camera, can hardly see it when just viewing the model! On model number 2, I found out that by not using on glue on certain front suspension parts meant that it had working steering! Happy with these two now, one is on the shelf in living room, the other waiting to go onto dashboard of Mindy!

So, as I've been ill recently (had a heart attack while working in the garage) I'm not allowed to work on my cars until I recover. Well, decided to build the suspension on the MX5 (aka Mindy), fit the brake discs and calipers, oh and respray the car! Not the real one of course! I was lucky to get two identical models of the MX5 for my Christmas (one from Gayle and the other from my eldest stepdaughter Jacklyn and her husband Marc) so decided to chill out and build one of them. Model is 1/24 scale by Tamiya Got some parts painted prior to building. Brake discs with red calipers, exhaust, shocks with red springs (slight deviation from the instructions but just my preference). Also did front and rear wishbones, front rear subframes and all other parts. Detailed the underbody tub, so exhaust, petrol tank , bottom of engine etc all done. Rear suspension etc all ready to build Front suspension all built and added to tub. Rear all built and ready to fit Interior painted and put together. Really proud of my wee wood look gear knob! Mixed various colours to try and get the right look! The body required sanding down with fine wet and dry as there were a lot of casting marks that I wasn't happy with. Decided to buy proper "Mazda Classic red" paint from Halfords (part of my ocd thingy!) Resprayed the body, but not too happy with the finish so that will be getting done again. Even though I used paint prep wipes, and a plastic primer, the paint seems to have reacted with the plastic so truned out pants (well, in my opinion anyways!) so deffo redoing that. Final pics are of the completed model. When I build the second one, I'm going to use a different glue too as the one I have is also crap, quite stringy. Anyway, totally enjoyed building this, really theraputic. Looking forward to the second one! Oh, I haven't put any of the number plate decals on as I'm making my own (which will be same as Mindys!)

Wow! DD my Aerodeck is 20 yrs old this year, still drives as good as new. Are you Adeel that used to go to the HTUK meets back in the day? If so met you at one of them, and yours was the first VTiS I'd seen or ever been in!! You took me and my mate for a spin in it, was amazingly quick. Think you had changed the ecu for the integra SiR one? Get some photos up mate, would love to see the car!!

Timewarp Honda Civic MB6! 18K on clock, but look at the price!
Dave replied to Dave's topic in Chat Lounge
Yeah mate, all have the lip as standard, not having it wasnt an option. So either its had a new front bumper or the lip has been damaged. Either way, think it needs investigating by any prospective new owner! I too have seen it going up for sale before. First thing I do now with any car......check the MOT history. I assume the owner would probably give the reg over the phone but I like to have the option of checking it first before contacting the seller. And I think you're bang on, £3500 is what it is worth tops, although I think any mb6 will struggle to sell at even 3 grand. Six and a half is just total dreaming lol Even though they are rare now, I still cough and laugh when I see Civic Jordan's being advertised at 7 or 8 grand! It's like "what, seriously??" And that's with sometimes over 100K on the clock.- 8 replies

Yes, there have also been a couple of mb's/MC's that were built as track cars that had them if memory serves me correctly. Not sure which ones or where you'll get it but I'm sure Jake will be along shortly with the info.

Intermittent Spluttering / loss of power MC2 Aerodeck
Dave replied to frunkster's topic in Engine & Chassis
Good shout Simon, probably cheaper to replace the complete dizzy than it is just to buy the ignitor thingy. Infact, if the ignitor is worn out, chances are the rest of the dizzy would be too. -

Thats what Civic5 was all about right from the start mate, and what makes us a bit different to most other car forums/FB groups. Always someone happy to help here. If the EM light didn't come on, then possibly not the ignitor then (which is lucky as that part was I think £300 from Honda last time I got one which was around 6, maybe 7 years ago). Not even sure Honda still stock them and the aftermarket ones fail big time. I bought two, both left me stranded byt the side of the road within 1 week of driving, hence had to bite the bullet and buy genuine Honda part. But as said, if the EML doesn't come on during the fault, then that should rule that out. Dodged a bullet there! lol -
Browsing ebay and found this. Looks amazing condition with only 18.000 miles on the clock, two owners from new. Very hard to find one like this, but don't think I could justify.........£6495 for an MB6! Still, would love to own this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Civic-1-8-VTI-Very-Low-Mileage-ONLY-18K-Service-History-Lot-of-paperwork/233074530457?hash=item3644531899:g:VQUAAOSwTY9buQTO:rk:4:pf:0 Pic of the car

Intermittent Spluttering / loss of power MC2 Aerodeck
Dave replied to frunkster's topic in Engine & Chassis
No need to apologize mate, we've all been there (me included! Had a heart attack last week!) so health takes priority over everything. Hope you get it sorted soon, but if it turns out not to be the 02 sensor it could well be the ignitor in the distributor. Do you get the engine management light coming on when the fault happens? -
Can't see there being any issues if swapping like for like mate, although being a newer type car you never know! Let us know how it goes bud.
-
Yes deffo get it posted up over there mate so we can follow where you go with this one. Not got a mk1 golf joined yet let alone a convertible so yours will be the first! Plus we have the free competition running just now over there with a great Bluetooth hands free/mp3 player for the winner!

See, I wouldn't use that. One thing I used to get a bollocking for when I was getting driving lessons was not using my mirrors enough. My excuse was "what's in the mirror behind me is history, I'm more interested in what's in front!" Lol driving instructor didn't seem too impressed with my comment!
-
Damn bad luck indeed with the engine mate. Overall though she looks like a really tidy VTiS, and knowing your attention to detail, this will be one of the best! Getting myself comfy to watch this build!

What pressies did your modern classic get for Christmas? Let's see them here! Mindy my MK1 MX5 got nice stainless steel will covers courtesy of my wife Gayle. Carly Cooper (my gen 2 MINI) got two new rear brake calipers, pads and sensors (cos the brakes went on Christmas Eve!) Will add a pic of those later. DD my Honda Civic Aerodeck got a promise from me to renew her front caliper and get her mot, plus possibly some paintwork in the spring/summer.

Small update. Got The last alloy fitted so she's now back riding on her original 5 spoke alloys, all nicely returned in white. Really think it changes her look. Lucky boy, Gayle got me new things for Mindy as part of my Christmas pressies! OEM stainless will covers! Been wanting these for ages, so got them fitted. Going to give them a good polish as I have a full metal polishing kit, but tbh they're in really nice condition anyways so that can wait for a bit Next up, fixed the driver's door handle which was previously not sitting right (was sticking out at one end) (see previous post) so with a new wee bit of rubber put in place (I had some of those stick on rubber feet for laptops etc lying spare) the handle now sits flush like it should (and my OCD Balance is restored!) Can just see Carly Cooper's bum peeking out from the garage! That's the job today (which went tits up!) Fitting new rear brake calipers, pads and sensors. Will update Carly's thread with the dismal job later.

Not a lot been happening in Mindy's world recently due to time of year. Did hwoever get the last wheel finally into lacquer just before Christmas and then went out yesterday and got it fitted so she's now sitting on her original alloys all refurbed. Another reason I was out in the garage yesterday........my mrs Gayle got me a wee present for Mindy for my Christmas! We both love the stainless sill steps/covers, so she found me an original set and got me those. We fitted them yesterday and they really make a big difference when you open the door. Looks so much better now she has some jewellery on! Do like a bit of bling! I'll get a photo posted soon. Really wanted to take her out today for a drive, but the roads are still damp/wet around here. Gayle told me under no uncertain terms is Mindy venturing out onto the roads when there's still salt on them! Think she's more protective of this little car than even I am!! lol

You too mate! Had a good one here and santa Gayle got me some new bits for Mindy our MK1 mx5! All's good! Hope you all had a great Christmas folks!
