  1. There is an interesting thread about what qualifies semi modern cars as classics over on our sister Site : https://www.futureclassiccars.uk/index.php?/forums/topic/43-what-do-you-think-makes-a-car-a-modern-classic/ I'm a bit staid in my ways so I'd love to hear opinions from younger enthusiasts.
  2. I have a 1998 MB4 and in my garage some old lowered springs and shocks from a EF civic. Before I dig them out, does anyone know if they work on the MB? Cheers, Stu

    MB4 to B16 swap

Its been a while since I've been in the greasy bits of a honda. I've lost my company car so have taken over the wife's mint MB4 1.6SE. She gets the new family car. As its a single cam vtec am I correct in thinking a B16 swap would be able to run on the existing loom with the vtec signal being the same? Engine mounts and driveshafts? Although reco-prop are down the road from me, i'd be looking at at weekend swap. Cheers Stu
  4. Hello everyone I just got a hold of a mb1 a couple of months ago from a friend(he was planning taking it to the scrap yard) who had it sitting outside for the last 6 years! 6 years ago my friend decided to fix the car for his wife so he changed the engine(he blew the D16Y2 that was originally installed in the car) and put a D16b2(he found one with 45.000 km) ,he also did some bodywork and left it outside to rot because his wife found it outdated and she hated the color also(red)! The 6 years out in all kind of wheather got to the car pretty hard so I had to fix allot of things(almost the hole exhaust system, electrical wires, shatterd front windscreen and back windscreen rubber, clearcoat pealing in various areas ,rusty arches, all black exterior had gone gray, yellow headlights ,brake pump, sagging headlining, rotten disc brakes and stuck calipers and many many more little things) I put in a lot of work the couple of months (with a fairly little amount of cash and a lot of hard work)and still have a lot more to do to the car but I think the civic is starting to look at least decent for it's age ! So after I finished the exterior a couple of weeks ago it was time for the interior! The inerior has a lot to be done such as fixing the driver seat cause it has a rocking chair effect ,and I also don't like the grey marble trims on the dash and am thinking about vinyl wraping them ! I started with the interior with gluing the flimsy steering wheel and I stitched a leather cover to it, I fixed the headlining last week (still got to do the sunroof section cause it has brown stains on it and I have tried cleaning it with almost everything and still does not clean,so i don't know what to do with it,can it be spray painted grey, what spray could do for this job?))thank's to the guide in this forum and both jobs came out looking damn good! So the next thing I want to do ASAP is change the door card upholstery , but I can't find a guide or something that would help me ,is there such a thing anywhere( a guide with some pictures if possible)? I find he door card upholstery just horrible ,I cant stand it no more ,I find it almost disgusting, its this pink zebra kind patern and colour and it is on the seats also (for the seats for the time I will go for black seat covers ), whoever gets in the car makes fun of the seats and the door card upholstery! Somewhere in this forum I read that someone just riped of the upholstery and spay painted the door cards, are there any pictures of this anywhere? If this is possible than it sounds like a pretty good idea to me ,but I don't know what is the door card material made of ,is it plastic ,does it have a smooth surface and can it be spray painted easily ,can anyone help please? Thank's in advance!!!!!
  5. So my interior light stopped working quite awhile back. I've checked the fuse. Changed it with a spare anyways but still no. It randomly stopped working one day. I've seen things mention about it being because of a new headunit but it happened while I still had the old headunit. Bulbs are also fine. Rear boot works fine from memory. Everything else works fine. What could it be?
  6. Hey Is available an universal fog lights i can buy for my car?
  7. So here's my little new MB3 on its summer wheels that normally were on my ED9. Need to lower it though, 215/40 R16 are looking very tiny. Bought it for 500€ last June with 192.000km and a nearly broken transmission. Luckily a used but functional one and 8 wheels (OEM alloys and some steels) were in the back so i just had to replace the gearbox and also put a brand new clutch in it for 450€ total in a honda workshop. It's now at 206.000km and it's still going without any problems. Looks like i made a good deal for under 1000€. Also it's in lovely Pirates Black and has this nice little wing, gorgeous!
  8. As above, anybody doing anything exciting this year? Now the year long January is out of the way, how do you think 2018 is stacking up so far and what have you all got planned for the months ahead? I've just booked myself a track day at Spa in October, I'll do a few shows and hopefully treat the cars to some parts too! My plan is to be broke....a lot
  9. as above want to lower it either coilovers or springs? been told other civic models fit on but which ones fit straight on with no messing about? been told eg/dc2 ones fit all round is this correct before i order some? thanks
  10. Hi guys, Had my ABS light come up on my 1997 MB3 the other day. Having followed the guide to read fault codes, I get code 16 (RL) and 17 (RR). Is it normal for both rears to go at the same time? To me, it seems coincidental that both rear sensors would go simultaneously - so before I go spending £££ on new sensors, does anyone have any recommendations for what could cause both rears to show as faulty (eg linked wiring / controller) and if so how I could check it? Thanks for any help
  11. Handy if you need to replace your abs sensors. Much much cheaper than Honda sell them for! Around £40 odd quid each. Thanks to Dr_Broon for this one! Mick's garage. https://www.micksgarage.com/d/abs-sensors/honda/honda-civic/civic-vi-estate-1998-to-2001/1-8-16v-mc2-169-1797/products

  17. Hey everyone, before I ask for your opinion I simply ask not to judge on the problem leading to it, thank you. So I own an MB9 and was looking around for nice rear discs since I have upgraded my front ones to brembo max with a dot 5.1 oil. Since I was needing brake pads too I had a look at ebc for the parts. After a few chats with some mates (one being a parts dealer and being sure it was 239mm rear size and no measurements done) we decided that the size was 239mm on the back and ordered Ultimax rear disc with green stuff pads for front and rear. 2 weeks later here I am with tiny pads for the rear and 35mm of disc contact for the pads on the rear which I thought was strange since the oem ones got something like 45mm. I have had a chat with ebc technician over thr phone and he sweared the mb9 comes from factory with the 260mm and the pads being the same size as the vti. So now my question.. Since I am from Portugal and they were ordered from UK, should I keep and install them or go through the trouble of replacing them for the 260mm ones? Is the stopping power that different? Thank you
  18. Hello everyone, i'm new on this forum and i'm from Málaga, Spain, my car is a MB3, his old owner was registered here too and there's photos uploaded of it surprisly. So here you got some news of it.
  19. So I'm Finch! I've been here before by many names with many cars over the years but this ones the one to stay, I've never really progressed very far with a build blog as I tend to forget to take pictures! Not this time! The car has been posted once before under another name but I thought I'd start again and in a few days time when works less hectic get the DSLR out and take some decent pictures. The car is a (fairly) stock 1.4 Sport MB8 in Knighthawk Black. It has AC, PS, Alloys and Electric windows as standard and the same interior as the VTI-S/MB6 for all intents and purposes. I picked the car up in February I think it was and paid £400 with 160k on the clocks which rapidly climbed to 182k by this morning (I do ALOT of driving). I took the car for MOT on Sat and it passed with flying colours, only two advisories; Small oil leak (coming from the filter seal on inspection) and bushing on steering rack is worn. Both will be remedied in following days! In the last few days I suspected a headgasket issue due to steam coming from around the head and burbling and bubbling in the overflow/expansion tank, I did a tstat change and fluid renewell about a month ago (do it every 3 or so months). Did a compression test this morning (dry, cold start) before work and got 220 215 225 217 so I was both very pleased and very confused to say the least! I expected a really really low value somewhere though I have no loss of power or anything. So I bled the system and tada the engine has stayed cool today and the heaters were warm! though I'm keeping water with me incase! I gave my MOT tester a call and he said he'd looked at the fluids to make sure levels were good due to the small oil leak so I'm now wondering if there was an air-lock caused by him checking the water level. In the first 3 days of owning the car I had already ordered a bunch of stuff and dug-out a few bits I already owned. Bought: VTI strutbrace - £5! - Facebook / 20min drive VTI-S Lipkit - £??? - @Dogg1210 Domo-kun (45cm tall) - ¥1600 / £12~ - from my buddy who lives in Japan still DC2 Wheel boss - £6 - Fleabay "Mugen" Formula XG4 shiftknob - £5 - Fleabay (I think??) Skunk2 bonnet risers - £4 - Old stock from old work place Password JDM Engine and Bay dressup bolts - £??? - Old stock from work Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - £200 - Kwikfit (I'll never use them again, I was just in a bind, they're thieving robbing b***ards - dropped alloys off to them as car was on axle stands. They claimed to have fitted them to the car and tried to charge me £160 ON TOP for fitting) Rover 45 Deflectors - £25 - Fleabay Owned: Defi Advance ZD Clubsport gauge set - ¥60000 / £600~ - Bought it in Japan for my S14 @ Super Autobacs VertexJAPAN 7-Star deep-dish leather steering wheel (330mm) - ¥39850 / £300 - Bought it in Japan for my S14 @ Super Autobacs Made: Few stickers - I owned a vinyl cutter until 3 weeks ago when I sold it Resistor / Fuse pack for my airbag light I got sick of the sagging headlining and door card material hanging more than the back lips of a 40year old babestation model so pulled it all out, leaving back door cards with material and the fronts without.. for now! I'm fitting the rest of the kit on Sunday will then clean her again and will dig the camera out and take some proper shots! In the next few days I'm ordering BC Racing ER's (External Reservoir), Will get those fitted along side: Hardrace front LCA's Skunk2 Upper Control arms (front) Function 7 rear LCA's Hardrace Rear Camber Arm Hardrace Rear toe arm Function 7 Rear sub-brace Benen Billet Tie bar Blue the Aerodeck 1.6 VTEC Aerodeck..
