  1. Finally getting around to a build thread for my third car It all started on a dull early may day. A Friend of mine messaged me, asking if I needed any parts from her MB4 before she scrapped it. It had been sitting on her drive since she her daughter had been born. I said to her, "let me know what the scrappy offers, and i'll chuck £50 on top and come grab it", knowing that the d16w4 powerplant in this could replace my lathargic D14 in my MB2 The next day me and a mate collected it, threw some trade plates on and ran up to my workshop. Even with the old 4 speed slush-box, and a years neglect, the MB4 walked away from my MB2 on a straight bit of road. Once we arrived, my friend parked the car up and then headed home. I then stood and had a smoke, looking at this car having a "Wangan midnight" esque moment, seeing the colour of the Sicilian Red paint for the first time. Plans had changed. (see attached image) Rust and engine work: First I got the car up on stands and made a list of everything wrong with it. The rear passenger sill and inner arch passed the good old screwdriver test, however the driver's side failed miserably, along with a few places around the front jacking point, and front inner arch. Out came the grinder, welder, and some conveniently shaped and cut sheet metal that I would be using to patch these big holes. This was a steep learning curve, as I have only ever done agricultural welding, and never thin bodywork. Once the rust was dealt with next came the auto box - I had never planned to keep this gearbox, so the hunt for an s20 close ratio box began. During this time, the auto box, torque converter and PRND lever were all disposed of in an appropriate fashion (Thrown into a skip as fast as humanly possible🤣), meanwhile, the engine was suspended by a ratchet strap around 2 on the gearbox bolts, and a random 2x4 i had laying about across the wings (See attached) Whilst the box was off, I decided to replace the rear main seal, sump gasket, and clean out the oil pickup tube. A few shiny parts were fitted during this time too, including an oil sandwich plate with senders for both oil pressure and temp, HKS oil filter, TTV flywheel and an exedy stage 1 clutch. Once I sourced a box, the new mounts were fitted up and after a copious amount of faffing around the engine and box were in. (I wish I had an engine crane!!) I altered the wiring on the PRND plug to disable the inhibitor switch, as well as the reverse lights. I finished under the bay by rebuilding the distributor, replacing the plugs and HT leads. I also added a bus bar to the firewall as my battery was going to be boot mounted. I am using a Janspeed 4-2-1 manifold, a smashed out OEM cat shell and a Skunk2 megapower exhaust system. I have a Whale pen15 air intake as well. Interior: This car had a creme interior, which I knew wouldn't survive me daily driving it. I quickly tore this out, installed a load of sound deadening and the various wires i'd be needing for my ICE setup, then fitted a black carpet and VTI "bus seat" interior. I mounted the battery and circuit breaker in the spare wheel well, as well as a power distribution block. this would be needed when I got around to building the boot and fitting my 3 amps. I finished the interior off with an oil pressure and temperature gauge set, a fire extinguisher, and an old school pioneer flipout headunit + DVD player. Exterior: The exterior is largely untouched, as it is the rare sicilian red pearl colour. This car was factory specced with a full VTIs kit and Jordan wheels. The jordan wheels went onto my other MB2, so that I could fit my 15" TSW imola wheels. I welded the rear wiper hole up, and the old spoiler holes. I then fitted an "auto spoiler", which had been preiovsly fitted to a friend's recently imported 200sx. This was an almost perfect colour match.
  2. Latest build, Ex auto MB4 ES in R500P. Lot of welding and repair work done on the shell.
  3. Hi all, Manual swapped my D16w4 ES VTEC MB4 recently I have a supalite flywheel fitted , however the engine spins down slowly, and when driving there is very little engine braking (akin to the throttle being partly open) I think I’ve narrowed the fault down to the 3 wire IACV setup Has anyone had this issue? And how have they resolved it?
  4. I picked up my mb4 a few months ago. I thought i would start a little thread where i post a few pics now and then.... The first few pics are from after coilovers and wheels. Unfortunatly my old phone died with the before pictures.. Currently i have installed coilovers, new set of wheels, custom "type r" grill and a few small things... Plans for next month is custom headlights (angel eyes & demon eyes) with app control if possible. Updates are gonna come when things are getting done slowly. If any questions, feel free to ask.
  5. I'm new here and just wanted to show off my little Orleans blue baby. (The original headlights are in the trunk, untill I clear them up)
  6. Hello all. It's been a while. Gona do another build for my current car. I've had a few mbs and mcs which I will show you. You may recognise a couple. Nothing special. This is my first one. White mb2
  7. Hi Guys I was wondering if anyone could help. I need to replace an engine mount and was thinking of replacing them all with a set from Hardrace. I've asked them which ones would be compatable for my MB4 and they are asking me whether those for EK/EJ/EM Civics are the same? Also, would this be the same for suspension bushes? Please can someone confirm of deny this for me. Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any direct reference to it. Ben

    D16W3

Good Afternoon All, I have a quick question. I have a 1999 MB4 with the D16W3 engine, no VTEC for me The problem is though I don't see this engine number listed in either the maintenance guide or the Haynes manual for this car. I know it's a SOHC with a higher compression than most engines listed but I want to know that I'm following the right information. I'm guessing the details for the other 1590 CC SOHC engines that are listed would do the trick? Many thanks
  9. Hello to anyone reading Meet Gladys, a lovely 1999 Civic with only 87k on the clock Looking for nice easy modifications to help get some of the power back that would have been lost over the years? After having 2 owners from new it's safe to say she has never seen a modification and it's always been a thing of mine and having a Civic. Will be posting new things that are done if anyone would be interested in seeing its progression as it goes from ultra standard to hopefully a head turner for the right reasons, also she will have neons. If you're not a fan then here is the pre-warning on that. Car never came with a luxurious interior, well cream WAS a thing in the 90's. Not so much now :/ Happy for any advice to be given as long as it's not a hater type of opinion. Stay open minded Hoping to meet you guys in the near future! Thanks
  10. Hi I'm just wondering if anybody here has experience with fitting the OEM/standard Mb's spoiler onto one that originally didn't have one? Mb2/4 etc Got a spoiler with brake light wiring all complete etc and I'm wondering how to go about it or to bother at all. - Any tips for drilling screw holes in the boot lid for the spoiler? This is what's making me not want to do it to be honest. Scared I'll mess it up. Need the bolts too. - Is there anywhere for the brake light wiring to plug into on the MB2's? I've taken the boot interior out and looked and can't see where it would go to. Any tips/pictures etc would help too. Thanks!
  11. Hi guys, I'm new around here and just thought I would post my progress so far and progress to come. This is '97 MB4 civic, it is only my second car, the first one I will be modding. It is not vtec, the insurance wouldn't allow it, but it is a 1.6i ES, so it has leather seats, heated wing mirrors etc. As of 27/04/17, the current mod list is small but still cost more than the car, so easy to spend a lot of money on car mods!! Sound system. 2 x 1000w RMS alpine type R subwoofers, 4000w inPhase mono amp, alpine CDE-185BT head unit. I haven't touched the front speakers, but they are actually really good and keep up! I don't know if they are this good from factory or if they will be aftermarket as I haven't bothered to check seeing as I don't need to. Blue LED Underglow lights, Front and sides. Lenso D1R 15" alloys, with hankook 205-50-15 tyres The mods am planning are: Speakers in the parcel shelf (The rear speakers currenty are tiny and not very good) Sorting out the bodywork from previous owner. The dents in the front wings will be sorted. The wheels that I have stick out a little, So was thinking about sourcing some form of wide archers if I can Finish off the underglow. There are no LED's at the back yet Wind Deflectors Blue clock lights Blue LED's inside, including lining the boot and footwells Want to debadge the "Honda", "Civic", "1.6i ES", but leave the honda logo on. Only thing is im not sure if they are just glued on or if they will leave holes in the boot because they clip in Spoiler Maybe a sunstrip Backbox, not going to bother with the rest of the exhaust, I am aware this isn't a fast motor, so i'm not going to try. Just want it to sound good haha LED headlights Need to see if there are any LED taillight clusters Might lower it a little, not sure yet though Window tinting Wrap, was thinking metallic black Any other things that I have not thought about here that are cool, let me know *When I get back from work I will try and get a video of the subs, they are awesome!*
  12. Well heres the new project. Same car as the previous but with a manual box and I think its pirate black. (has a purple sparkle when the sun hits it). So a 1.6 sohc 1999 MB4. Its by far the dirtiest car ive ever bought. but with a bit of love itll be somewhere near decent. the outside isnt too bad aside from a dent in the rear quarter and a big scratch down the other side. Oh and a crack in the rear bumper. Inside was just grot and mould everywhere and the drivers window mechanism and seal is goosed ive managed to get it shut for now to keep the rain out but first I need to sort the MOT out. Fail list: horn not working wheel nuts missing poor handbrake efficiency offside handbrake not working (siezed caliper) ABS light on Advisories: battery insecure possible leak from top of fuel tank when full deterioration but not excessive to front brake lines deterioration but not excessive to both rear suspension bushes im sure there was something else but i cant find the sheet at the moment.
  13. we did this once before here, as part of the MG ZS group buy of heated front screens. there is one last ever (I know I said the last time would be the last), and this really will be the last time as its not worth my time and hassle and I gain nothing from this...the last ever heated screen group buy the screens WILL come with a top tint, and are dual circuit heated. They are 25£ more than the last batch 5 years ago (inflation!) at £225+vat. its a real last minute thing coz I kinda forgot about you guys, but I have to place an order Monday 8th Feb and as before £100 deposit is required, non refundable as I would be stuck with the screen and I would still have to pay the balance, but if for any reason... find someone else to buy it, whatever, we just need to fulfil the order. Its done through Ricky Evans motorsport as before, they supply cars in the BTCC. They will not stock these screens, if they would I wouldn't have to go to all this hassle for nothing, so this really is the only way to get one, there will be none left over, what I order I have to pay for and you guys pay the same cost per screen as I do, we had to pay the tooling on the first batch, believe me, its no cheap process. Call me 07941 857777 or join teh dark side - MG ZS Owners club on facebook where there is a post, or prob better still, Jason simm on facebook, its the MGZS pic with the stelio pass in the background. Sorry its last minute, but I don't want to miss you guys out.
