  1. Can be a few things mate. I had this on my old mb6 when I bought her back from a guy who's only had her 3 months. He'd replaced the front tyres with very worn ones, one of which was worn right down on the outside. The tracking was also out. With this combo, I ould change lane on the motorway just using the accelerator! mega scary. Same as yours, accelerate, it pulled to the right, back off the throttle and it would shoot to the left. Two new tyres, tracking done and she was as good as new. So that's your first port of call. If it isn't that, it will more than likely be th front wishbones that are gone. The place that does the tracking will be able to advise you of this though, as they willbe unable to track it if the wishbones/bushes are shot. Hope this helps.
  2. So, been a bit down lately due to pressures/hassles at work and been a grumpy old git to say the least. Gayle reckoned what i needed was another project! I've wanted a MK1 MX5 since the day they were launched (was at the car show in Glasgow SECC when they unveiled it) and when the cover came off and I saw this sweet little red sports car I fell in love! Said there and then I have to have one of these one day, but I was a teenager back then with empty pockets! Roll on 29 years later and now I'm older (still with empty pockets, least i am after buying her!) and finally I've got one!! Always wanted a mk1, but did put deposit down on a mk2 in a garage around 7 years ago. Sadly my then wife (Dawn) became seriously ill so we cancelled going down to test it/buy it and just forgot about getting an MX5. Lost Dawn to cancer 3 years later Original plan was to buy one that needed a full restoration, but as i don't possess any welding skills that plan changed. After a lot of good advice from members in here, we upped our budget and went to view a few more cars. Most were bodged repairs and nothing like described, until we found this one in Stirling, Scotland. She's red (obviously), 1.6 UK car with 90K on the clock. 10 months MOT. There isn't a service history book, but all the old mots are there and receipts for various work done. The chap selling her didn't want to let her go, but was under instruction from his wife to buy a more family friendly classic car! She has had the rear sills done before, drivers side is a tidy enough job and solid (just the black paint that's not right), passenger side is still solid but repair is showing signs of rust. Engine wise, she's great! Engine sounds sweet, and pulls well in every gear. Suspension wise, she needs an overhall. Interior is basic but (now) clean and tidy. Hood is shot, but Gayle went straight onto ebay and found a brand new hood that the seller has had lying around for a couple of years for £120! result! She bought it, then we had another road trip to Aberdeen to go collect it. Hood is mint and getting fitted this weekend! I have noticed when at speeds of 70mph upwards, she has a horrible vibration which is coming from the front. It shakes through the car, and if at lower speeds (60mph) we go over any bumps in road, it shakes up through the steering wheel which deffo isn't right. Unfortunately during the test drive there were no roads we could get her up to anything over 30 - 40mph so this only came to light on the way home. But hopefully the work i'm planning should resolve these issues. So Plans are: Fit the new hood Replace all 4 shocks and springs Replace upper/lower wishbones (they look ok, just grubby, but I want to replace all bushes so might aswell just change the whole lot.) Replace wheels/tyres with dished BBS rims Full service including timing belt/fan belt etc. New front and rear brakes (rears have just had brand new calipers fitted) Full custom interior retrim in either full leather or half leather/alcantara Full respray, looking to go for a nice metal flake red! Will also be taking it to BorderMX5 before the paint to have both rear sills repaired professionally/correctly. Think we should be able to get through the next mot with them but not chancing it any longer than that. Engine and engine bay fully detailed. Accessories, such as chrome/stainless steel boot rack, new stereo (just replaced the one that was there for a Pioneer that I had lying around in the garage). Will be a long term project, but want to fully replace as much as we can as we go along for brand new/renovated parts. End goal is to have one very mint mk1 MX5. After cleaning her interior up to my standards, Gayle said "oh look, the suns out!" Which roughly translated means "time for a run in Mindy with the top down!" lol Got some pics when we were out. Totally love this wee car! She's not perfect, but she's ours and makes me happy! First ever convertible I've ever owned, and loving it! Don't worry though, DD isn't going anywhere! Just taking a break from her for a wee while as she needs MOT'd and a new front caliper. Plan is when I get the spraying gear all sorted out to respray the mx5 , I'll be doing DD's front end at the same time. So all's good!
  3. Welcome to the club! Nice MB4 you have. Not sure if it's because it's a Spanish market car, but the ES models in the uk came with full leather interior, and 14 inch alloys as standard? The wheels you want to fit come from the VTi model which unfortunately has a different stud pattern to the non VTi models. Stud pattern for yours is 4x100. VTi is 4x113. But don't worry, there are lots of wheels available for 4x100 fitments so you will have plenty of choice. Looking forward to seeing more photos of the car and what your plans are. Enjoy the club, any questions just ask
  4. Welcome back bud! Looking sweet as mate, and those wheels!!!! Gotta be one of my all time favourite wheel designs. Really suit the car perfectly.
  5. On my Fiesta mk1 on my commute to work in the city, I would get to the exact same place every day and the car would loose power then cut out. No amount of cranking would get it going.......took off the cap and away she went! Drove from home to work the next day with the cap off and she drove perfect all the way. Think the reason it affected the car so much to the point where it lost power on the move then came to a halt is because those old cars had a mechanical fuel pump, not an electric one like the new cars such as the civic. Old mechanical pump aint as strong as the electric ones.
  6. Yes mate, they allow air into the tank so that as the petrol drops as its being used, it doesn't cause a vaccum. Be superb if that's all that's causing the problem! Mega cheap fix! Do try it the next time it plays up though to make sure. Does it do the fault every time you drive the car?
  7. Rich (civicturbo79) did the B20 conversion, although his car was an mb6 so already had a B series in it. He turbo'd it, screemer side exit exhaust etc, was a really sweet civic! Chandler has also converted his d series Aerodeck to a B18, so might be worth picking his brain for info.
  8. Agree, it is something that needs sorted sooner rather than later as it will get worse at some point. Ok, this is going to sound nuts, but bear with me! Next time it does this. Remove the fuel cap and then try and start it. If it starts normally, it's due to no air getting into the fuel tank due to either a breather pipe or the small hole in the cap is blocked. This causes a vaccum inside the tank which makes pushing the fuel through very hard for the pump. Just a simple test but worth doing. Again, if you can open the bonnet when it does the fault and smell for petrol to make sure fuel is getting through. If it still does it, we'll need to go through a process of elimination. We'll get to the bottom of it though mate!
  9. See! I love learning new stuff about cars, never knew about the green cars etc. Find it fascinating!
  10. Looking sweet! Suits those wheels nicely mate.
  11. So many things it could be mate, but basically will either be fuel related or electrical. Is there fuel getting through ok when it's cranking over for a long time? Have you tested for a spark when it does this? After cranking for ages, does it then run fine once it starts? Any EML when this fault occurs?
  12. Nice one mate and good to see her saved! Looking forward to the photos!
  13. Lol it's the banner at the bottom of Civic5 forum main page mate! https://futureclassiccars.uk/
  14. You need to get the DeLorean and the civic or our sister site future classic cars mate. Deffo not got a DeLorean in the club yet!!!! Would love to see it over there!
  15. Both look stunning mate! My civic typeS was called "Lexy" lol
  16. Happy birthday Peeps. Can't believe it's been 5 years since you were taken from us. Love you and miss you x x x
  17. Some Rover brake components do fit mate! The rear calipers are the same as ours from what ive seen. My best mate had a rover 400 saloon (2 litre) and he couldnt find a rear caliper in the breakers for it. He got a civic mb one and it was idenrical. The fronts i imagine will be the same, the not sure on them being the same for mb6/mc1 as they had bigger discs (282mm) and bigger calipers. Vti also has different stud pattern. But for 1.6, 1.5 and 1.4, i assume these will all be the same. Youve got a delorian????? Jeese man! I need pics of this!!!! Totally love them! That could be also becsuse my fav film of all time is back to the future. Got a delorian myself......only its 1:12 scale model of bttf car! Lol also got a bttf " Outa time" number plate on the kitchen wall, made by myself! Looks pretty good!
  18. Unfortunately it is mate. They (Honda) stopped producing parts for ours years ago, so basically any parts that were in stock have eventually ran out. For calipers though, you're not lost. You can get reconditioned ones easy, which come with new pistons, seals etc and the casings are blasted and painted, so essentially brand new calipers. I'm about to get new (recon) front ones for DD. The carrier brackets aren't available recon, so these you need to return yourself. The parts that might disappear that worry me are things like the sliding pins for them, handbrake cables etc. And also the "Dealer only" parts. It is pretty poor that Honda don't support owners better, but all they are interested in now is selling brand new cars.
  19. Anything else possible with a welder! There are rear boxes/systems out there for the mb tho mate so probably better getting one that's designed to fit, or go for a custom made one. That's what I've got on DD, custom made powerfllow. You can get just the back box if you prefer, or the whole system. Fits the car like a glove! Congrats on the wee fella mate! Let the sleepless nights begin! Lol
  20. That man speaks the truth! Totally agree mate, these Civics have never been given the recognition they deserve (one of the main reasons civic5 was formed!), always dissed by the "that's not a real Honda" brigade, who are usually driving their pure JDM Civic ej (that was built in Swindon too!). Don't get me wrong, I love the whole JDM scene and the cars that are in it (don't agree for the overinflated prices for anything that is even remotely JDM though!), but at the same time I wouldn't diss other Honda's just because they aren't made in Japan. It is really sad the amount of immaculate MB6's/MC2's (which are already getting really hard to find) that are scrapped by the very same people above just to get their engines. Funny thing is, you put an mb6 next to an ek4 and say it's every bit as good as an ek4 or other dohc honda, they instantly slate the b18 engine ours has, saying who would want that, it's inferior and they're crap. Yet they break our perfectly good civic M's to get that very same engine! lol And when I've taken either of our 5 door Civic M's/Aerodeck to garages for work or mot's, have been told by more than one garage that the civic m's were one of the best cars Honda ever built. The other thing tat bugs me is the prices. There's not much point in selling our civics (especially the vti) as their prices have stayed realistic. The 3 door vti versions are advertised at stupid money! One example was a 3 door vti, 150k on the clock with the rear arches hanging off £4k! An mb6 with the same miles but body perfect....probs £1200 tops. Just makes no sense to me! Ours are better equipped than the 3/2 door models, seem to be better at resisting rust, and are really good cars, but still they get slated. Makes keeping them going even more worthwhile, cos maybe there will come a time when the only mid to late 90's civics you see at a jap car show will be ours! Keep your wee MB going mate, she deserves it! PS: I also love the 3 door civics, always wanted a sonic blue vti with white alloys, lowered etc. Just don't like how stuffy and ill-informed a minority of the owners of them can be! There. rant over, and the worlds now a much better place for it!
  21. Some of you on FB may have seen the wee video I created from the German f1 grand prix featuring one Seb Vettel! Decided to do a better one so here it is...................................Vettel fans got to another section now! lol
