  1. Welcome to the club mate. That's a stunning pre-facelift Civic you have. That model really is becoming rare! Loving the mods you've done, sits really nicely and agree, engine bay and that airbox mod look amazing! Really loving that airbox!
  2. Only got a couple of pics so will try and explain it! Oh and its 3 bolts, not 2 lol So you need to remove the ashtray/lighter unit from car You will also need to add a spacer/packing between the cupholder and the ashtray unit. I used hard foam from the box my DD head unit came in. Oh and you need to trim the rear lip of the ashtray unit off (can see the rough cut I did here, i did then trim it all neatly!) This sits up against the rear of the wee cubby tray at bottom of dash, so without trimming it the cupholders won't allow the ashtray unit to go back in place. The cupholder has mounting points at the front. Sadly, the way the ashtray unit is, you can only use one of those holes. Drill a hole in the ashtray unit inline with where the cupholder front mounting point is (this is on the same side as the lighter. On the ashtry side the hole aligns with void so can't be used. Secure the cupholder to the ashtray unit using longish but small diameter bolts, one at the front and two at the rear. One of the rear ones needs a hole drilled (and countersunk so the screw clears the drawer when it opens/closes), the other has the countersunk hole (you'll see it easily once the cupholder is open) we spoke about earlier.
  3. I drilled a small hole through the bottom of it to countersink a screw. Theres one countersunk hole already there, so used that along with the one I drilled. Used two small (but long) bolts to fix it to the underside of the ashtray/fag lighter unit/panel. You need to remove the whole centre console and then remove the ashtray bit so you can position it and drill the holes. Sure I took photos when doing it, will check my phone mate.
  4. I know, mental aint it! I mean even storage wise, the M's are sadly lacking, but to not even have a solitary cup holder was madness!
  5. Nice to see you having a go at removing the dents yourself mate. DD has some very small carpark ones that she has picked up over the years that I'd love to have removed. Great little line up there of Civic M's! Always love to see groups of our Civics in other parts of the world meeting up, and yes, its the same over here as most people don't know what a civic aerodeck is when they see it lol Your civic is looking ace mate, loving it!
  6. Thanks mate! Hahaha, wouldn't mind a turbo tbh, have see a few with it and they are like shit off a shovel! But tbf, although she's not the fastest car on the planet, I have so much fun driving her. The FN2 I could only use not even half the power it had, whereas this I can use most of it and have a ball, and most of the time be within the speed limits even when ragging it! lol
  7. Deffo mate, have had messages on here and on FB and my phone from members itching to get a civic5 meet on the go. Simon and Gav are deffo up for coming up as spoke to them a few weeks ago, and Jordan that has the VTiS aerodeck just along the road from our old house messaged me just yesterday to ask when are we having one! lol Gayle said the same on the way back, we need to get this organised soon. Once we know where we stand re covid restrictions we'll get on it, see who's all up for it. Be sooooo good to see all our old friends and also meet some of our new members too. Every meet in the past has been awesome so hoping that theme will carry on.
  8. So, weather was fair today so we decided to go for a run in Mindy our wee MX5. Went our usual run towards Innerlethen and the Yarrow valley, and out over the moors. At the end of the road there's this wee pub/hotel called the Gordon Arms Hotel in the middle of nowhere, so seeing as it was lunchtime anyways and we'd always said we'd love to try it out, we popped in for lunch. Had there Gordon arms burger, which was amazing!! Then we left the pub and normally would turn left back towards Yarrow/Selkirk/Galashiels, but decided to turn right and see where it took us. 5 mins from the Gordon arms, we turned right.............any of our long standing Civic5 Members recognise where this is? No? Ok......what about now? Getting warmer........ok, how about now Yup! St Marys Loch!! One of the best ever Civic5 meet venues! Thats the big carpark we normally take over (see pics below!) Happy times those! Can't believe we ended up at St Marys loch! We came in for the side the meet usually exits, so did the run backwards! When we first drove along the road (before we found the layby), I said to Gayle I'm sure I recognize this road! Then said, hang on! If theres a layby on the left round this corner, its the St Marys loch road! Sure enough, there it was. We decided to do the run backwards then cut off and head for home instead of heading to Dalkeith. Ended up in rain (yes, hood stayed down!) and then brightened up before eventually hitting torrential rain (too right, hood went up quick as hell! lmao ) So surprised to find that the run is litterally 25 mins from our front door! Used to take us ages to get there from the old house! We love where we live now!!!! Tis awesome! 9. Few photos from our wee run in the borders to St Marys Loch and Megget water. Saw 3 other MX5's on our travels (2 mk4's and a mk2) and also stopped on the narrow bit of single track road to allow a 4x4 to come through, only for it to stop alongside us, the woman driving it rolling down here window and with a huge smile saying excitedly "I used to have one of those!!"
  10. Cheers mate! yes, had a wee drive out last night to see how effective the wind breaker is and have to say, much improved! well chuffed with the new bits!
  11. So was my birthday yesterday (Yay! Happy birthday to me! lol) So, got some lovely pressies! And Gayle's pressies were things I'd been wanting for absolute ages!! Soooo, without further adoo, Mindy's new additions! (hang on, thought it was my birthday, no Mindy's!) 1st up, Gayle got me a mx5 shelf bag. This fastens to the studs that normally take the tonnaeu cover. Didn't even know they made these for them! Awesome bit of kit and gives a nice bit of extra storage. Next up, OEM windbreaker with built in pocket (again, every bit of extra storage is a bonus!) Mega happy with these, the wind break makes a huge difference at 60mph and above, and the bag will be excellent for any trips away we do in Mindy
  12. Dave

    My new german

Damn I miss my TypeS and TypeR now! lol Looking sweet mate, really nice FN2 that! Front lip was a mega bonus eh! Not one I've seen before but really like it! Makes a change from the common as muck mugen one!
  13. Now that past Dave has stopped waffling in the above post (past Dave: Oi! I heard that! ), here's what I've been doing! Finally did the mod I've been wanting to do for ages (since I had Ruby infact)....fit the one thing our Civic M's really lack...cupholders! Bought a oem jdm Integra DC2 cup holder years ago to fit to Ruby but never got round to it. So it's now fitted to DD. Had to do a bit of modding to get it to fit, but it's in and looks factory fitted! So much better than the only other ones that were available that went in the centre console armrest, and these ones you can actually use!
  14. No a bad shout that actually! I'd still need to move the heater controls down again which means sorting out the cables so they aren't too stretched, plus it would mean my latest mod (see next post that future Dave is in the middle of typing lol) would need to be removed. So think I'm pretty much decided on the motorized screen single din unit now. That idea you had might be good for whoever buys the double din console though mate, gives them lots of options.
  15. Yes, had a look at some of those. There are a couple where the single din radio is at the bottom, so that would possibly fit. Just not sure I'dwant a big screen on show when she's left anywhere unattended though. Also not sure how it would look being permanent in from of the hazard/heated rear window buttons? It might be an option though as tghe android ones I've seen so far are all badge engineered ones from China....some get good reviews, some get apalling reviews but all look identical lol. Any big name ones with a motorized screen are mega bucks and don't have the android OS which is annoying.
  16. yeah was thinking that too. Sad I won't get to fit it but just got to the point where it was gonna be too much hassle for me and can't face cutting up DD to fit it lol. Not sure how those heater cables stay in place when the controls are moved down the dash as like you say, not a lot of movement available in them at all.
  17. Nice! Amp and sub will make such a difference to the sound. Those deck roof speakers are shockingly bad....bad placement and really poor quality. Poor old DD is lying out there, her interior in bits at the moment till I decide what the hell I'm doing lol Been looking at the single din android units with motorized screens but a lot are piss poor ( and over priced) so the hunt continues!
  18. So, was kinda warm here yesterday and we were out in DD.....and that's when we noticed!! Was hot so went to turn the heater down.........and button would only go quarter way round towards cold! Didn't even make a difference, heater was on hot! Went to change the vents to the face level ones so we could shut out the heat...that didn't work either! Realized the control cables must have become detached when I had the dash out to trial the dd conversion....grrrrrr! Really pee'd off! Stripped all the radio and centre console out again, and had a look at heater control unit. Cables were a bit trapped so free'd them off. Then spotted both had become detached at the heater box (yes, I could have got those back on without taking the console out!!! ) So trying to get the cables back onto where they needed to go was an absolute faff, didn't help it was bloody raining either. After some contorsion manuvers, they were back on. tested, all working. Had another look at dash while everything was out and have made a final decision. Thought about putting the unit lower down, maybe doing away with the ashtray etc, but would be too low imo to use it safely and would be awkward to see. So had another look at the original place I was intending to fit it and seeing what I'd really need to cut away, I'm not going ahead with the conversion. Plan B is going ahead so will be fitting a single din with unit with a motorized double din screen. Still got the car to put back together so will do that tomorrow or Thursday. If anyone is interested in either the double din head unit or the completed double din converted centre console let me know. Not sure how much to sell it for?
  19. Yes, so glad thats sorted as she really did sound like she was falling apart going over rough roads, both from inside the car and outside! She's sooooo quiet now, feels like a new car again!
  20. Yayyyyy! That's DD back with a full years MOT and had a full big service, so had oil, filters, plugs etc changed, brakes have all been stripped, cleaned, regreased and built back up, new rear discs and pads fitted. Drove her home last night and that horrible clunking noise fro n/s/r is now gone too. Was the missing shims/rear discs right enough causing that. They also fitted a new brake clip/retainer kit from Honda as the old ones were looking well dodgy!. Drove over a rough bit of road on way home that she was really rattly/clunky over before, not a sound this time! She really is driving sweet as a nut now, so smooth and quiet. Dave is a happy chappy! Will be looking at the Double din radio fitment again, see what I can do!
  21. Thats amazing mate, old tubs and new tubs working in harmony. How many ev cars will get to that kind of mileage I wonder
  22. @KiNK43Just been having a butchers at your gauges, looks mint that!! Think the metal bit is directly below where the bottom of the radio sits, so you might have got away with it fitting the gauges? It looks like the head unit will fit in at the bottom without any troubles, so thinking this is where it will go. I've ordered up a new single din cubby hole to go where the current head unit is. Will fit the USB ports from the new head unit into the rear of that along with a new 12V socket I've ordered to replace the fag lighter socket. Will run it like this for a bit to see how it goes, not 100% sure if I'll be happy with it down there though, but will see. If I don't easy enough to revert back to oem then fit a single din with double din motorized screen and either sell this one or fit it to Mindy. Still not decided what to do with the double din console I made, whether to sell it or keep it for a rainy day?
  23. Wowser! Now that's what I call a work car! That looks mint mate, really nice spec on these too if I remember rightly. Is it a 3L petrol or diesel? That mpg tho!!! lol
